I want everyone to know that my husband was an experienced rider and had his probe and beacon. I miss my husband every single minute...he was my everything and my whole world!!! Everyone that loves the mountains and is in them as much as we were please be safe...we had our world turned upside down in a minute. I can’t have him back...I am heart broken. Thank you Shannon for all that you did for my Jason.
Shannon, I am Jason's sister and I really appreciate you sharing your story. This helps put things in to perspective as to what really happened out there. I hope you and your son are holding up during this difficult time.
RIP Jason. Thoughts and prayers for your family. Heartfelt thanks to Shannon for his account of what happened, please share with and many backcountry enthusiasts as possible. Very sorry for your loss.
Excellent video with a sobering, tragic message. It is essential to carry all the necessary safety equipment, and many of us - myself included - have failed to do so on occasion. I'm so sorry for those who lost a friend and family member, including Shannon who fought hard for his friend's life.
Shannon thanks for sharing this, I’m sorry for the loss of your friend but thankful for your willingness to share. Hopefully this will save lives. My condolences for your communities loss.
So tragic. I hate hearing about these. We need better distribution of the excellent education available, and a better system for assuring sledders are prepared with the tools and knowledge needed to avoid being caught in avalanches, and/or best practices on how to survive them. We need all riders spreading the work, holding each other accountable. We need dealers remind their customers. Can we get the DMV to send out avalanche info along with registration stickers each year? An email with this video attached may really help riders understand the potential hazards more acutely. I see way to many other riders out there without avalanche tools, not caring about avalanche safety, and it makes me mad. It's not only their lives at stake, It affects many other people, families, other riders on the mountain, rescue workers, and others. It's simply lazy and irresponsible. Excellent work on the video, UAC. And thanks to Shannon for being willing to share this story on camera, it's got to be so difficult to do so soon.
Shannon, thank you for speaking in such a raw moment. I have walked in your shoes. You will play it over and over many times, may you find some peace in your heart and know that sharing your thoughts/feelings will help others.
Thanks for doing this video ! I know you did it for all the right reasons, home in bed , in pain , after snowmobile finished off my shoulder. Now surgery, will keep riding till I can't anymore, sorry for everone. , very sad!
Why? Senseless just for a thrill HES NOT GOING HOME! Yous are responsible for going down that mountain when you know it was bad day after day of snow and water! Stop thrill seeking and your friend would be home! SENSELESS
