Engineering graduate dumps academic papers

- Unemployment among the youth is a common problem in Kenya. A situation that has left many graduates without jobs even after families spent fortunes educating their children in the hope that they will have a better future.
Bill Clinton Muguai is no different. He is an engineering graduate from the University of Nairobi and a first-class honours graduate at that.
But for two years he has been tarmacking looking for a job or an internship in vain pushing him to a breaking point to the extent of wanting to burn his degree certificate.
Martin Munene visited him at kabaru Nyeri county and filed the following report
I remember when I scored a c- in kcse back in 2017 people including my relatives told me I was doomed for life because of my grade they even told me my grade would follow me to the grave . so I applied for a small course dealing with computer maintaining course in small college when most of my friends were dealing with degrees in top universities but luck was on my side a certain American noticed I was good with dealing with computers he told me my skills would come in handy 6 months was the duration for my course I secretly left Kenya without my relatives noticing am currently in the US doing the job I was trained for and at the same time I started investing in crypto when it was new back in the day am now at the verge of reaching my 1 million dollar mark if u want to succeed in this day and era be prepared to have haters they laughed at my grades now I can at their bank accounts.
Good luck and don't give up and when you have time get a second certificate, the world is volatile
It is luck. Nothing more
No its not. You really know nothing.

Am currently in university and this has really changed my mindset, I will seek to graduate and even go for masters but I will not let papers become the centre of my life, entrepreneurship is the only way to survive in Kenya
I was the best pupil in my primary school (KCPE), I then joined a provincial high school where I score an A minus, joined university, and pursued Bsc, Medical laboratory science, I graduated in 2013 and sat for the KMLTTB examinations and was licensed. 9 years down the line I am still looking for a job...been a victim of depression not once or twice.,
Someone needed to talk about these things and I thank God that He chose me.
something is wrong with you,.or your drive to look for a job,..i have a couple of friends who have done diploma in medical lab and they are way marketable even as they work on their licenses,. kuna locums,.unless if you are setting your walls too high because of your degree then you should be having a job right now,..even students on internship for medical lab get job proposals because of how marketable your curse is,..figure out what you are not doing right
Go n listen to Andrew kibe utasaidika
Open up your mind to other job opportunities, don't just focus on what you studied in school. Apart from that, sometimes it is just luck, I wish you the best.
@@paulogolla4551 very true, there must be a problem somewhere
I would advise Kenyans to be on the lookout for international labour market. The western world is aggressively hunting for skilled workers.
True
Very true I can testify that did my masters in Belgium came back to Kenya was very frustrated for almost 3 years. Applied for a phd opportunities abroad got 2 opportunities one being a 6 years employment contract with a university in Belgium. The bottom line is Kenyans need to move out of their comfort zone and explore opportunities outside. I have many Kenyans friends who we were studying together in Kenya most of them are working in Europe
I wish there was funding or a program to get such people abroad. US and Canada likes such minds.
It's so painful that this is the reality for most graduates in Kenya. Sadly, the society seems to criticize graduates for not landing jobs or something to do after graduation. Very soon we shall be losing our best minds to depression
Bsc Electrical Engineering is a STEM course and if you can't earn a living with this then something is seriously wrong in this country. It easy to blame young people about their impatience but who wants to waste their most productive years tarmacking and struggling with mental illness. I totally understand where he's coming from
Thanks bro. That's essentially what I was saying, but so many critics just got it too wrong!
@@William_Clinton_Muguai I concur, same degree (upper second division) same university since 2011. A decade later, selling ornamental birds to feed my family.
Sure...Netizens are always so quick 2 judge. I don't see a problem with him narrating his plight.
Unfortunately, Kenya is not a merit based society. It’s immeasurably demoralizing to see the likes of Aisha Jumwa proudly boasting of their academic dwarfism as she gets appointed to the Cabinet. Why should anyone pursue academic excellence when mediocrity gets rewarded? Attain your academic degrees/certificates then seek greener pastures abroad where your intelligence will be rewarded. There is no hope of things changing for the better unless first and foremost we reform our politics
@Linc Sink, Umeongea kama wazee ishirini
@Linc Sink I couldn't have said it better. But sometimes it's hard to convince most of them to come in to terms with the 'Hey' days of their opportunities outside our lovely/ beautiful n "equal for all" country (Kenya) which has already used them for political gain. It's my prayer that he n others in the same boat get what they have really worked for. Bless!!.
Press the volume button..
You are a fool if you weigh the ability of people by the gra.des they got in school. I think Aishwa Jumwa can perform far much better than you. I fear you are one of the many educated fools in the society. Others are D students and are nurses abroad. Wacha dharau.
The same people voted for bottom up.
Why isn't anyone talking about the mothers English,?Mimi mbele ya camera English itatoka kama kiluhya,,kudos to the mother..and the struggle is real..I graduated 5years ago, with a degree in manufacturing engineering still no job..I still think EBK is letting engineers down, we pay 4k yearly and the Board is not vibrant like that of medicine. I have gone to an extent of doing manual jobs in industrial area, packing etc to make ends meet. I substitute everything with online writing and its not easy, but I can't just sit there. To be honest, its not easy but we move.. As of now I still haven't seen the benefit of my papers I'm Hoping someday I will.
I finished campus last year but one I was frustrated like you , There comes a KDF recruitment exercise tried my luck got it

Time to create a business or some enterprise and see how it goes, or simply venture elsewhere, That's a bright guy there, getting a first class honors in Electrical & Electronic Engineering is not easy at all, I hit the same academic achievement but in the UK and luckily the employers hunt for me, certainly if one thing doesn't work always be ready to try another Avenue, Life ni sengemnenge lakini twang'ang'ana tu, keep going bros!!
My son a graduate in computer and electrical engineering is facing a similar dilemma. Very frustrating
They are many. I have one
Hoping doors will open soon. What I said is the hard facts about all of us.

i feel the guy, i was in a lecture room one day when I decided to drop off campo, not because the class was hard but because I saw no correlationbetween what they taught and real life
Sijaona matunda ya degree yangu ya Biochemistry for 4 years now.Interviews hapa Kenya ni Hot air.I grew up being told that Eduaction is the key to success i am still yet to see that success.Maybe that was not my calling to be employed.I am still trying to look for avenues to employ myself instead of depending on others for jobs.I have a gift in creating art it'smy passion now but still i don't know where i am going to get the market for my work.I will keep on doing my best.
Is true education is the key but where is the padlock?
I think most of us Kenyans are putting alot of pressure on ourselves without a reason to. Folks have forgotten that at end of school education the real education starts, we don't educate ourselves past this, success is the progression of a worthy ideal, upto university people have been successful but we stop learning thinking things will now fall in place. Young people are going through this without a plan, yes they had a very good plan ok, but what is the plan after higher learning, what would you be doing in the meantime while seeking for your dreem job, a side hustle, remember your plans are upto 30 years plans, so you won't waste time waiting for a job that most of us now know may not come. With a hustle of a year even if you get your dream job u are sure , rent, ,furniture and other things are sorted so you don't start over, you continue with the plan. My advice to young people is as soon as you are living highschool let your plans be known to you and you alone, focus and you will surely reach your destination and never quit.
Thanks man
Don't worry bro I also went through the same b4 i got employed by government it was not easy though, I graduated in 2019 at Tuk toiled for 3 years and eventually got a job just through interviews make sure u do so many applications and don't give up at all yote yawezekana
Six years now with no job after graduating. I can't face my parents after all they sacrificed for me to get education. If only they knew to invest that money but they loved me to much to do that😰
And somebody is blaming me for 'impatience'? In Kenya, one better make their next move early enough.
@@William_Clinton_Muguai Imagine
It is a painful story but these are all what most of us as youths are going through in our country. We sacrificed a lot to learn only to reach the end of it and find that there are no jobs for us. Parents also sacrifice a lot to educate us.
na umemaliza kutoka Moi University nakuona
The big loss in life is spending more money on Education. The Job market doesn't need education. It only needs experience. Our President should revisit the Kenyan Education system. After KCPE One should only join college and practice his career for the 4 years of High school.
Agreed.
Degrees are Kenyans biggest scam...I studied In a day school and managed to be the 2rd best student in the subcounty.I went to the university and studied bsc in biochemistry and graduated as the best student in the class...I am so focused still BT not looking for a formal employment ....all the years I did that I only got frustrated and depressed.
Biochemist positions in kenya are few both in the government and private sector in Kenya. I'm a biochemist too. You better create employment for yourself and others. Don't wait for a job. US has a population of 300M and their number of biochemists is only 27,000. In kenya the population is about 56M. Do the math. The government should match the degrees to the market but we all know that will not happen because they will lose a lot of revenue from public universities.
Most university graduates are graduating with no skills, University education is focusing more on theory work than on practical learning is why we end up jobless. Most of us also focus on only passing exams with no course skills.
Higher education needs reform.
Which skills? That is a cliché that lost meaning years back
true..theoritical philosophy with almost zero application to market needs..unfortunately the degrees pipe dream is a delusion, as brutal as it may sound..thts how it is, the degree is not enoughas practical skills and experience is required

reality is government can't employ everyone. the biggest employer employer in Kenya is TSC, with 300,000 plus teachers. government in total, including national government, county governments etc employ just about 1 million people. private sector should be the biggest job creator in any economy. and private sector, stories of "knowing people in right places", are rare

Very early
How long should one suffer before they realize it's the high time to ask 4 help????
it is very vile of people saying that he hasn't suffered enough since he has been tarmacking for less than 2 years....shame. The country is failing its youth and it has no remorse.
The Kenyan who created nice and lovely industries was a class 4 primary dropout so let him not loose hope
Engineering courses needs you to have a job, because that is where you will learn a lot of skills, apply and solve problems, make some money, get your license and venture out on your own, by creating your own company making use of the skills you learnt during employment.
It's not a problem only in Kenya, in Ghana we are facing the same problem, after university degree no jobs
Kenya is the most useless county. Let's try to seek jobs abroad.

That last statement lies the answer to life. I am of age to know that education/ certificates are not a guarantee to job market but the true purpose of education is to open your mind to see/use different opportunities that comes your way in life. We have many lawyers in politics are they practicing law? Even Albert Einstein is reported to have said--That education is what remains after he has forgotten everything he have learned in school. I have personally learnt that the world plays a different game and we better learn those rules.
Young man I can feel your frustration and mum's but truth be told- Those who have crossed many rivers or have eaten many books tells us that this world has being spinning for about 4.543 Billion years. I am sure we can all agree that we haven't lived that long. If we are reading from the same page it's good to know that we might not be as important as we think. The world can continue spinning without us. So its up to us to find out our place in this spinning world because it will not wait for us.
You don't have to go and pay that exorbitant fee to open your mind....life situations are what make you wiser not being in a classroom for years....I receive interns with minimal knowledge only to find out that they are really smart just luck proper guidance and are learning irrelevant things in school

Sad how graduates and other learned people are left to struggle finding a job while useless people who don't meet the academic threshold gets awarded with government jobs and other opportunities. Rewarding compatriots instead of awarding competency. Kenya is headed to a pit of ignorance, that's why people who gets to these offices are making kangaroo decisions. Not to mention names, but there are people who have been appointed to office but in reality even from a layman point of view they don't fit to run the affairs of public government posts that they hold. Lots of qualified young people from the Universities, great ambitious minds and energetic with the desire to make life better in their nation and mother land have been left to seek for employment in other already developed nations. And now some inexperienced yesman have the audacity to think of withdrawing university funding?!!?? Is he speaking his mind or the ideology of his employer who already has had that plan all the way????
Education, is the background of everything in this nation. Please find us people that value education and are willing to make sacrifices for the same and put them to run such offices and institutions. Start from zero start as may be as a sales person then grow your career from there I know engineers who work in banks. So don't be scared to get dirty because you have a fancy degree and don't wait to be absorbed by the government. You need to know you are starting from zero and build something around it. Usikuwe diva juu ya degree chapa job hata kama company ni kidogo then grow from there.
I have a very burning Question, please 🔥🔥. This has been bothering me for years.
We can see that labour supply is more than it's demand. Thus guaranteeing that most of the graduates will never get employed.
The reason behind this, is the traditional mode of education and this is known to everyone.
Now my question comes.
Why is it that traditional education is becoming more expensive day and night yet it is seemingly useless if not totally useless. Ideally if you study in hope to graduate and find a high paying job then if you can't secure such a job. Doesn't it mean traditional education is only a wastage of time and other material resources!!????
Now the question comes again!?
Why is attending school is even becoming more expensive yet those who attend school can't even reach 0.5% of their dreams!?
IT second upper still tarmarcking 6 months
I think the Kenyan economy is not developed enough to absorb all these technology based degrees
