My goal is to be as Zen as my Bella and Toby. I have so much to learn from them. They can meditate any time, anywhere, not bothered by noise or whatever that's happening around them. They will wait at the window for me to return everytime I go out and know the sound of the handbrake of my car and start meowing loudly and running to the front door. . So happy to see them and we will cuddle up. Kitties are very mindful beings and full of kindness.

Thank you Ajahn for your talk about cats. My cat Tobi has spent the whole talk laying beside me purring, every so often he pawed the screen and stroked your head! Tobi is blessing you!

Thank you for a very interesting talk. I think my feral cat taught me many things. Because he was wild when we met he taught me that if i wanted to be his friend I had to let him be cat and not try to change him. As the trust grew he moved in with me and taught by example the full body stretch on waking. It really relaxes the muscles. He showed me the cat yoga pose of lying in the sun on our backs, in the middle of the yard, eyes shut, legs and arms spread wide apart. Also very relaxing. He taught me many things. All i had to do was observe and let him be cat.

I often ask my cat, “Are you doing yoga?” since the stretches look extremely similar.

Thanks to them and YT we can hear you and see you as much as we need and want. It is a great comfort for me that in a way, I can connect with your wisdom, kindness, and presence any time I need. Thank you for everything but above all for your courage to stand up for women, animals, and everything that is simply right.

Had a cat back in '71 when I joined the Army. I came back from basic on a two week leave and the cat was on the porch like it was waiting for me. When I went in the house, I joked about how nobody greets me back from hell but Frodo, and my dad said they hadn't seen anything of the cat since I left. Well, Frodo stuck around for the next couple of weeks, then disappeared again, only to show up one last time when I came home from AIT a few months later. The day I left to ship overseas was the last anyone saw of him.

Far Away The feeling of impermanence has given me the opportunity. To understand the meaning of true freedom. Ok there are many challenges but that is part of the beauty of it all and gives me the motivation to keep on walking the path for me its never too late. Have a great holiday and many many blessings. PS I am giving up smoking so wish me luck! 😊😊

    • @PhoenixProdLLC

Jill Mcelfatrick I wish you success quitting Jill and am sure you will find it. It's said that if you delay lighting the cigarette just 5 minutes each time and then 10 and then 15, you'll have the upper hand in the fight well in hand and beat it in no time. By the 15 minute mark, you'll be able to easily transition to, because the nicotine hit is delayed and your desire reducing rapidly by that point due to smoking fewer every day, that your brain will stop expecting it, especially when you've upped the delay by an hour. At that point, everything about smoking will star becoming an irritant and your aversion signals will kick in. When those intensify, it will be something you're rejecting and avoiding by choice. Next thing you know, you'll be smoking so little that the bother of buying and having them will be the tipping point to where you're not smoking at all. Once 3 weeks without a cigarette has gone by, you've got it licked! You'll be an official non-smoker and have a lot more pocket money to do funner things with. A meal out, new clothes, a new hobby or catching some music concerts, museums, movies, etc etc.
In a way, you're already a non-smoker anyhow as an actual smoker DOESN'T want to or think about quitting. But YOU do :) You got this! Cheers!

One time this cat came to my front door in an apartment I had recently moved into. It acted as though it wanted to come in so I told it that it did not live here and could not come in. It was at that point that the cat made this meow sound that sounded exactly like "why". At first I thought it was just my imagination but there was at least one other maybe two other people there that heard the exact same thing. We all had a good laugh about it.

Matthew Wadsworth Aww. Cats can sound just like babies lol I knew a similar cat all the neighbors called Garfield. He was a huge, orange tabby and we all made sure Garfield could take it for granted that he could wander into any apartment he wanted, have a snack, a pet, and off he'd wander to the next big, bald monkey's house lol He was quite a character :)

Phoenix I can understand what u say. The first time I heard AB after many many years in darkness I felt as if all his words were already inside me it was much more than chemistry . I already felt this way. To me its not a question of believing but knowing. Somehow I knew I had found my way it had been inside me all my life. There were no conflicts inside just a great feeling of relief and joy. Even reincarnation seemed a completely natural process. Meeting u and all the others on chat made me forget my feeling of separation from life. My philosophy is just to feel and to know and truly walk in the sunshine. I am so glad to have met u I hope I have found a new friend it feels like that anyway. Many many blessings with lots of metta Jill.😊😊😊

Jill Mcelfatrick Beautifully written Jill and thank you very much for being open about where you're coming from. I can identify with a bit of that :) ..."Hey! I enjoy seeing you and FA in the chat as well 😊🙏 And appreciate your friendliness and patience in the live room. I hope you will continue on your path and find all you want and need from it. :) I look forward to seeing you around in the chat and please I hope any isolation you've felt previously subsides for good. Besides, I hate to break the news to you Jill but not only are you not cut off, you're part of the Human race and you're stuck with us! ;) 😁 Much Metta to you 😊🙏💞🙋👣

Phoenix Chastaine I totally get that, and I think it’s hugely important that we stay on our own chosen path and not walk in the same prints someone else has laid in the sand ( which includes religious dogma).
I can only speak of my journey which has been a very long spiritual awakening but it rarely involved deep commitment to any religious sect.
All I can say is that the nearest organised religion that comes close to MY OWN path is Buddhism and the Hari Krishna movement.
It’s a shame your not an avid reader as I could pass on some great “free thinker” books.
My own conclusion to this experience here on earth is to learn compassion and respect for EVERYTHING, even the coffee cup I’m drinking out of now is made of very energetic particles with each one having a life force of its own.
The older I get the more transient things get.
I ABSOLUTELY understand the ethos of not becoming attached to things of material nature and for that matter attachment to others, even those close to me have a separate path to take and that is to be respected.
It’s like taking a short walk with a stranger and becoming a friend for a short while.
I’m very comfortable with where my journey has led me thus far and it enables me to fly high above issues and challenges as all they are in but a minuscule spec in time.
An issue or challenge only becomes larger if you feed it.
Your art and perceptions on your channel are quite unique and I will give you my time if & when you require it. But I’m certainly NOT full of wisdom and I’m still laying prints in the sand of time 🙏

Humans can choose to be vegetarian or vegan. Cats do not choose to be carnivores. This is simply the way they are and there is nothing wrong with that. Please reconsider your perception of the cats at the monastery when they catch birds and other small prey and accept the cats the way they are. My cats are my best friends and they are very loving and lovable.

They are a big problem in Australia because many Australian birds and small mammals have not evolved to deal with introduced predators like cats, and the cats are wiping out native species.

"The Fatal Shore"! I forgot all about having read that book awhile back till AB mentioned it. And, isn't it The Year of the dog? Hmm, looks like his cat bias is taking over 😁
It would be really cool to hear AB talk about "Physics & Buddhism" one day, given his education. Maybe speculate on what "dark matter" is, the millions of galaxies and potential other beings, the universes accelerating expansion, time-space and light bending and all that jazz and theories like multi-verses. Cats and dogs are great, love them, don't get me wrong. But, you know....some of us are geeks :P
"A disembodied happiness...a happiness without anything there to experience it...", says 🅰jahn 🅱rahm. ~ @1:30:00
Um...if there's nothing there to experience it, then it's not there...there is no happiness. You can't have one without the other,🔄 so this assertion by AB makes no sense to me and sounds a bit mithrash, circular logickie... sorry..no offense (really!)...it's like the old "if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one - no hearing sense around - does it make a sound?"...you can't KNOW...and it certainly doesn't if YOU don't hear it...anyone that reads this is free to respond....If all your perception disappears in meditation, and I agree that's possible (to a point), then you'll percieve...nothing? But he's saying "happiness" can arise IN you though "you" have disappeared like the Cheshire cat, but there's "happiness" AFTER the disappearing...*how do you know if you're gone?! Who percieved that happiness?* ( Or, "what" if you prefer)...
WITHOUT your perception there's no X to verify! Therefore you *cannot* have "happiness" during meditation if you can't perceive (I.e. "experience") it..it doesn't exist!
Look at dark matter. We don't know yet precisely what it is but *we DO know "it" is there* and makes up 70% of the universe. We know this because we can test for its existence, we just are not sure what the "it" is..we know it's there but not it's complete "nature", so to speak..."we see as through a glass dimly..." Blah blah blah...there's a picture, but it's a fuzzy picture. This dark matter issue is MUCH different than asserting there can be a state, called "happiness", but nothing to detect that state..this is an important distinction*...
Science can't make claims like that and be taken seriously, but religion DOES and, well, that's kind of a problem because then you're falling *away from* AT LEAST Experiencing and so are instead saying, essentially,"Take it on faith because I'M saying it's true." I can't get down with that. One of the things I have liked about learning what little I know of Buddhism, is the emphasis on Experiencing things rather than Faith. Anyway, be well folks 🙏😊🙋🆗📴

far Away Hi FA...I've been enjoying your videos.
It might be important to keep in mind I'm new to much of Buddhism. The rituals and traditions are not explicitly explained anywhere on the bswa site, nor sutra central. My main focus has been evolving as a mediator, listening to the monks and nuns talks here, stuff like that.
I'm a rationalist who does not believe in "believing" just because others do or someone says I "should". It's enough that I'm willing to keep an open mind as I goo along. Coincidence, superstition, and empty traditions aren't my thing. So, if I don't see it or experience it for myself - which thankfully Brahm has emphasized is important - I won't believe it. But I don't begrudge or judge OTHER peopled experiences.
I'm a commitment phone, big time, for several reasons but two are that 1. I've been bothered by religious leaders of very different religions trying to get their hands on me and pull me into *their* religion since I was 6 years old and it gives me the willies and 2. The opposite has happened where "believers"/lay people, have been abusive to me For my curiosity, like because they don't ask questions and just swallow all they're told because some "authority figure" said some this o r that. I'm not going to be a mechanical zombie follower to any man or woman. The thing about Brahm is he studied Physics at a great university and I guarantee you he's not ever accepted anything he doesn't actually believe. And I respect that. He may not handle more specific questions publically because he tries to keep it light all the time, (which I kind of wish he'd deviate from just on occasion to address maybe more intricate questions on Buddhism), BUT that he takes questions after talks and gives people from around the world to ask a question really impressed me. But I still consider myself on the edges of "Buddhism" as a religious organization, and still very new to it. I'm only offering my position to you because I'm under the impression you're a long time believer, and may find some of my questions or curiosity about things that, for you and other Buddhists, you are fully settled on or about. I really appreciate the friendly attitude you have extended to me in this neon wilderness. And because of that sincerity I feel I owe you the same in return, so you'll understand why I might seem...eccentric. That's not the case so much as it can be attributed to my being a careful learner. It is through this channel I could dive into meditation whole hog on my own and as a practice in and of itself. The rest of Buddhism? The fundamental philosophies, ethics, ideals, beliefs, history, canons, traditions, expected behavior and manners at centers/monasteries etc etc, are all topics I have A LOT left to learn. You may have experience and knowledge about all of that I do not. Feel free to share that information with me ate any time if you feel so inclined. :) And any other sincere adherent of the Buddhas forthat matter. Just know if I don't understand or am confused, I *will* ask questions lol 😁🙏😊 So there you go friend and hey, aren't you and your wife supposed to be enjoying paradise? I hope so, and to prove it I'm going to end this little novel right now 😊 Much Metta to you and yours! 🙋💞👣

The monk to the right of ajahn brahm sways his body and head ever so slightly the entire time. Being relatively new to Buddhist meditation, im wondering, is that a result of him being in such a deep state of meditation, or is he doing it intentionally to keep himself from dosing off...

It's a natural movement of the body, he's breathing, and also, the muscles are relaxing as he goes into deeper states, and if I'm correct he is practicing Metta Bhavana, loving kindness meditation, sending if you may call it "positive vibrations" to all present and all who may listen to this talks.
