Honorable mention is the beeping of the key/seat belt and the seat that does not go back to set position once opened up to let people in or out of the back
hahahaha I agree with what u say. the suspension is quite hard to live with too. but when ur behing a porsche and he cant get away, it gives u a huge smile
So true. Shit shit shit pothole, swerving clenched sphincter. Rough bit of tarmac makes you cringe. But good surface and lots of corners it's like heaven.
Thought the Mugen wing was a bit overkill without the full kit, but that's just my opinion though. When I bought mine I asked the seller if he still had the original wing - but I completely see your point when you're looking through the rearview mirror. (Mine is black, sometimes I just wanna put a line of tape down the centre of the lower window and pretend i could afford a Sierra Cosworth!) I also find my clock/radio display decides to work best on sunny days! As for the gearknob issue I have a couple of small wooly hats that fit over it nicely, they came off of bottles of tropicana during the winter but seriously does the trick! Once again class video dude!
You'll be glad of those heavy doors in a side impact collision though. It's heavy than the EP3 but it is safer. Ps: That's an old man type comment I know, but I am old so I'm allowed.
Hahaha class man, ok: 1 & 2 - yeah spoiler took a bit of gettting used to, came from having an EP3 Type R before the FN2. Wasn't really sold on the Mugen spolier however the FK2 / FK8 spoiler looks pretty good on the FN2 (I imagine either offer a great improvement on rear visibility though) 3 - Radio, yup!! Seems to work best on sunny days and the rest of the time its in Predator language! 4 - Gearknob - agreed, i shoved a small wooly hat on mine! 5 - Doors - yeah same on EP3, heavier on FN2. but 3 for 3 civics later though I can't leave my windows down on nice days without the slightest gust of wind setting off the damn alarm! Good vid man, keep em coming!
Nice Video man. Myself and the wifey buying 1, checked it out already and we love it! hopefully getting it this weekend!! cant wait!!! Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa!! 🙋
Lewis Humphrey We got it and its totally amazing!! 😃 it is quite thirsty though if u put ur foot down all the time, So as much as i wana hit that Vtec i cant. Otherwise im going 2 have 2 throw petrol in all the time😁😭
The thing I hate the most is the seats that dont go back to the position they were in after they fold and go back. Other then that the car is really a little rocket. If ya need a few extra hp just go for the reflash vtec from 4500 rpm and got 14 hp. Nice video btw
I love my fn2 and you're spot on about those doors. Personally I find it harder getting in the car in those right situations as my foot always presses down the seat adjustment bar at the front of the seat causing it to move.
Lewis Humphrey My VW Scirocco suffers the same problem with big doors, typical Coupe problem (like BMWs). Apart, in the Scirocco, the door is veeeery thick!!! at least twice as thick as my motvers VW Polo. Cool to look at, but harder to go in and get out when you are sandwiched
Good video. I used to own a Honda Civic Type R FN2 as well (I now own a 2011 VW Golf GTI), I loved the FN2 over my buddies EP3, I still took it to track days with them and had tons of fun, but me and even my EP3 buddies admited that it was just nicer to be inside the FN2 when off the track - It is a much more modern daily car that doesn't make you look so 'JDM RAC3R BOY'.
How's the ride in daily trafic? Is it really that bad? I own a 1.8 8gen Civic, and I'm considering (finally!) getting the FN2 but I'm a bit concerned about the ride quality. On my 17" alloys, I consider comfort...okayish. I would stand a little harsher but not by much.
I know its 6 years later but looking at possibly getting one of these after my JDM CR-Z (GT86 and S660 from Japan are also in the conversation), thanks! Still better visibility than my CR-Z and my CR-Z also has massive heavy doors.
i also was looking for fn2' s and gt86. bought a cw fn2. the car is brilliant so far. the toyota is more fun though it just feels less refined and the engine is not as aggressive as the k20.
I own the same model, although Silver. Agree the rear wing is an issue. Never any radio issues, never the gearknob issue and the door size, well, its a 2 door car. Otherwise its absolutely fantastic. Easy to drive , goes well, but no problems around town at all. My wife and I love the styling - still looks great 11 years on. All my friends think its great and keep saying - we've never seen one before - must not have sold that many around here... My main gripes would be ride is on the firm side, gearing on 6th should be taller (less revs) but otherwise great.
Sooooo spot on! :D especially about lcd display, I thought it's just me.. And I changed a gear knob, it was unbearable.. But love the car to bits with all it's flaws.
Hi Lewis, nice video mate 👍🏻. I two own a milano red Fn2 07. Love it. Im also in the process of doing some test films and coming up with plans for making my own RUclips videos. Good luck buddy! I've subscribed for the next ones. ❤️️🚗💨🚀
I had the same problem with my radio to a point where it will switch stations on its own or switch from aux to radio continously on its own or just get a high pitch static sound..In the end I replaced it with a touch screen one because the whole radio panel was apparently the problem but it was worth it and it fixed it. never had no problem after
What gets on my nerves a bit is the top of the steering wheel covers my speedo! I've tried changing my driving position and moving the wheel up and down but I'm just not comfortable! Other than that cracking motor!!!
Thinking of going to an fn2 after my EP3, I have no doubth that the EP3 is more fun on a B-road blast/ track day but 90% of my time spent in it is just genreal day to day driving where I imagine the fn2 will excel. One thing that annoys me about the EP3 is the turning circle is shocking, is the FN2 the same? Also will 3 grand get you a decent one?
An ep will definitely be more capable but I wouldn't say an FN is far off the mark. I would say it's a bit better. 3-4 I'd say would be a cheap decent one.
Hi thanks for the video love this car thinking getting it and installing a sunroof what do you think is it possible and feasible? Lastly what is this cruise control for a manual car looked up every youtube video but there is no demonstration of it.
Teo Zhili right then. If you really want a sun roof and don't mind losing a bit of power then look at the type s Gt. It has panoramic sunroof built in and is one step down from the type r. I wouldn't try putting one in a type r. The cruse control is a button on the steering wheel. You drive at your desired speed then press it and the car will sit there. You can speed up and en let off and the car will go back to the speed you set. If you press the clutch, break or the cancel button, then the car will go back to normal functionality.
Hi Lewis thanks for the reply. Didnt know about the S GT model thanks for sharing, unfortunately in Singapore we do not have it only the type R. Best regards!!
I love my fn2 type R , so much fun, its like a go cart to drive , very reliable for a performance car and cheap to buy , picked up a decent one for 2.5k was a good deal, only thing takes getting used to for me is the stiff suspension, took s few months to get used to it but now it seems normal , lol nice review very comical.
I found mine on gumtree. Was up for 3k. I haggle it down to 2.5k. The breaks and clutch was worn so needed some work. Had them changed when i got it. Now its a sweet little motor.
I hate that i dont see anything behind and I hate the air blowers configuration. You cant make the blowers blowing on the front window only. They blow on the front window and on your legs... Also if you blow in your body you cant adjust the center blowers like you want... Also one thing is wiper fluid refill. It takes a lot of time to refill wiper fluid because its funneled somewhere...
As an fn2 owner myself, you mentioned the 2nd worst (door) and some minor annoyances but you forgot the worst: The spaceship supertruck huge turning radius and low steering angle that makes you look like an idiot whereever you park!
I'd add to the list... 6. Fuel consumption. Yeah, buying a sports car and complaining about that is a bit silly, but shit, this thing's nuts! 7. Stone chips. I just seems to attract them! I picked up a 49,000 miler in Milano Red, and it's covered in white dots, and the bonnet needs a total respray. Well within budget though, as I paid about £1500 under market price. Honda just sorted out the rust on the leading edge of the roof for free too, so that's all good :D 8. The clutch is weird! When you push it fully down with your hand, there's loads of travel, but when you use your foot, it feels like it's moving about two inches. Stiff as hell too!! I tried the master cylinder adjustment last week, to pull the biting point up from the floor, but I couldn't get the nut undone with an ordinary spanner...........so I spent £15 on a fancy new one with a straight head. 9. V-Tec on a really bumpy lane.........nope, just nope!!
Private Custard everything here is bang on. I keep forgetting to check for this rust line so I need to look at that. I'm planning on the clutch adjustment too as I'd like to eventually try it on a track and I've crunched a couple of gears before at high Revs. Good to know someone else is having the same problems and trying the methods I want to try 👍😀
Definitely check for the rust. I've seen some that have gone totally, right across the front of the roof. My local dealer photographed it, along with my service book (which only went as far as 2014). They called me a week later to get it booked in. It came back with a repainted roof and a new top seal along the windscreen, which appears to be hard rubber glass-side, and soft rubber to the roof edge, so no more rubbing. I'll let you know if I manage to sort out the ultra low biting point. I'm not hopeful though, as the nut above the pedal appears to have been tightened up by Bane\Hulk\Magnús Ver Magnússon (delete as applicable!)
About the fuel consumption.. is it really that bad? I heard people saying this car is really fuel eficient 28-35mpg I would really like to know the truth as i am looking into buying this car
OryX I have a 2009 fn2, town driving I can between 20-25, on the motorway I get about 30, I gave up trying to be fuel efficient with it because it just doesn’t happen. When I’m having fun It just drinks. Also I’ve never gotten more than 300 miles out of a tank.
my mate has a 2.2 diesel of that shape, one thing i hate about it is that although it has a button to start the engine, you still need the key in the ignition 🤦♂️
I have this car and live in Australia.... with our Australian summer heat... and i have to park outside in the sun for work. I literally cant shift for like 10 mins until it cools down hahaha
@@ionutroman5486 standard came on the car with two mounting brackets. Mugen you reuse the same brackets and use some bathroom sealant around the holes. To stop leaks. None type R models you have to drill holes into the perspex lip to mount it.
I have mate. Its looking sick now! I've also gone down the hks Intake and milltek exhaust route. Sounds amazing now. Loving the videos, really useful!!
whats the Fn2 like on petrol ive got a Subaru Forester S turbo get 20 mpg max , im considering a 2010-2011 lsd model only 5 years later on this video longshot 😂
@@FNLEW my first og Honda was a 2000 MB6 150,000 miles it burned oil like fuck never buy a car with no service history whoops.😂 need another Honda but ill need too sell the Subaru put £110 in in 7 days theres a fn2 in my end and a prem ep3 there mint both brothers had ek4 Vti before moving too k20
Add another thing to this: the car will beep every single time when the doors are open, and the ignition key is in. Like when I get back to the car just to wait a while, I open the door and want to keep it open just to chill, then I put in the ignition key to be at hand, and the car starts to beep. Seriously... Other cars in the family didn't do this crap.
Amazing car..my champ white with lsd is a great car. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've had an ep3 and dc2 and as much as I liked those I do this one equally. Don't let the top gear tv review put you off. If you check the top gear magazine review it's good.
Nicholas May it only has the connection for an old iPhone or ipod. (not lightning) I've tried using an adaptor lead but it doesn't work because it finds the track files and doesn't just play your audio through a jack like an Aux speaker would.
ha..the radio lcd is infuriating, i recommend re-soldering the pins - i had it replaced under warranty and still it went wrong, so rather than the £750 honda fix i just re soldered one single pin ( far left one for me )
My fn2 doors never bother me, spoiler yes, in the beginning, but I got use to it😎, I don't listen radio have Bluetooth parrot system so I'm listening through my phone 😁
I always say, living with a Ferrari will be hard to, so I tend to forgive the car having some inpracticalities. I must agree on the radio tough, both the standard one and the expensive navigation system are 1) absolutely rubbish and 2) extremly hard to replace by something aftermarket... Owning one comes close to owning an Alfa Romeo in the end. You love it, you hate the faults, but in the end you still love it. Quite unjapanees, but I would not want to change for a Nissan ;)
Lewis Humphrey lol it's a civic type r not a super car so how do u work that out a have a 322bhp Leon that's miles better than a 197bhp civic on fuel don't get me wrong a loved my ep3 but mpg is mental
I hate this car because of the front side skirts (high price, capriciousness and lightness, lack of replacement parts), its stiffness of the suspension, fuel consumption: I have 14 mpg in the city with a quiet ride as a pensioner and 26 mpg at 120 km/h on the freeway. If you can get along with those disadvantages, then the fuel consumption at 2.0 200 atmospheric forces does not suit me. My friend has such an expense on a 400 hp turbo engine, I'm trying to fix it because I see on the Internet that I'm the only one who has too high consumption and no one can find, suggest and fix the problem. I understand what I'm going for when I buy a type p for 200 forces, but this is overkill. First of all, the R type is a civilian city car on which you can safely go to the track and drive.
I understand the issue of the metal gear knob as I have an Si, but all you have to do is invest in some driving gloves???? Not a new invention as far as I know, and then it doesn't matter how hot or cold it is... Great vid tho, wish we had these in Canada.
Eric Mulligan that is a good idea. Although I don't really want to invest in some driving loves only for day to day city driving. My leather gloves will do for now I think. Thanks very much! I bet it's a bummer 😕
Third gear is known for having synchro problems but you can help it without having them replaced with things like changing the gearbox oil, a weighted gear knob and even engine mount inserts to keep the engine and gearbox more stable whylst at high Revs.
bitofbeer true but i live in an urban area. Maybe if u live on an airport runway its good bump anything else it's not. It's well documented this civic has a harshe ride
i owned an ep3 before and now own an fn2 there both great cars i prefer the fn2 cuz its more luxurious inside and it has more torque in the lower revs witch makes it easyer to drive around the city
Steering rack and suspension is better than the EP3. The EP3 has the better rear suspension and its a little lighter. The FN2 like you say has other things going in it's favour. It's a much better car than Jeremy Clarkson would admit. Due to him getting back handers from Ford down the Lodge. ;)
FN2 is the best looking type R, the end.
Honorable mention is the beeping of the key/seat belt and the seat that does not go back to set position once opened up to let people in or out of the back
i live in australia in 40° heat so when i go to hop in and i touch the bloody gearknob it practically cooks my hand to medium rare
Fuck I felt that man, gotta love Aussie
Flamin gear knob 😂
My mechanic did a cheeky repair of the Digital display, took the soldering iron to it. Works a treat now!

@@ionutroman5486 standard came on the car with two mounting brackets. Mugen you reuse the same brackets and use some bathroom sealant around the holes. To stop leaks. None type R models you have to drill holes into the perspex lip to mount it.
Mine messes about getting in second at times and my radio display at times starts flickering random display lights for a few seconds
What about the horrendous beeping when you open the door without taking the key out
The mugen wing really sets off this car. One of the 1st buys I made for mine.
You should see the car now 😂
I have mate. Its looking sick now! I've also gone down the hks Intake and milltek exhaust route. Sounds amazing now. Loving the videos, really useful!!
@@TheSpliffMaster awesome to hear mate! Thanks for the support! 😁
I own an ep3 and I really do love the look the of the fn2.
Great vid bud, spot on with... if you like it so what! And I love FN2s. 👍
👍 lol same. K&n panel filter next. Bit of grumble (hopefully) ha. Good vids btw. Subed 😂
Nice one and thank you 😊
It's my favourite car, just waiting for a insurance payout to get myself another diesel! My other civic got written off due to a rear end collision.
That's bad luck mate. Hope you get one sorted 👍🏻
whats the Fn2 like on petrol ive got a Subaru Forester S turbo get 20 mpg max , im considering a 2010-2011 lsd model only 5 years later on this video longshot 😂
I'd say in a similar ball park mate. Less than that in traffic. Better than that on the motorway.
@@FNLEW ahh okay thats why im trying too find a 1999 Honda Civic vti MB6 or an em1 there fast and good on fuel having 2 2 litres will be a nightmare 😂
@@andrewjohnson7960 haha fair play mate
@@FNLEW my first og Honda was a 2000 MB6 150,000 miles it burned oil like fuck never buy a car with no service history whoops.😂 need another Honda but ill need too sell the Subaru put £110 in in 7 days theres a fn2 in my end and a prem ep3 there mint both brothers had ek4 Vti before moving too k20
Hi, you can polish your gear knob and it will be like new
Ok. Thanks for the reply mate 👍 loving the car just glad my ride to works only 10 min haha. U had any trouble with the starter button? I have :(
No worries 👍🏻 haha same here. Some times it takes a second push but if I give it a few seconds after the ignitions turned on then it's usually fine.
Haha spot on!! I leave a left glove in the car for summer and winter for the gear knob issue....feel like a nob driving with 1 glove on like!
+Chris Cac haha it's a good idea half of the the time 😉
Ive got a type s at moment and want a type r, my 93 TTid aero is main but civic is 2nd car
Did u ever try to change the front signals bulbs? 😅
I haven't unfortunately mate 😂
FNLEW might become the no. 1 on your list ! Just have to start by taking off the wheel 🤣
Hey buddy nice fn2 jus wanted to know wot they like on fuel .... thanks
Thanks mate. 26-27 mpg In town and traffic. 35 or so on motorway.
Thing 6: beeping if the ignition key is in and the passager door is open. We know the ignition key is in! Why Honda do this...!
Jerome Bose oh the beep when you put the key in annoys me because it's the same beep when selecting reverse on my old lexus is200
ahahah i was saying that :D
:D
Add another thing to this: the car will beep every single time when the doors are open, and the ignition key is in. Like when I get back to the car just to wait a while, I open the door and want to keep it open just to chill, then I put in the ignition key to be at hand, and the car starts to beep. Seriously... Other cars in the family didn't do this crap.
THIS IS SO GOOD! I'VE JUST BOUGHT THE SAME CAR AND IT'S SO GOOD TO SEE WHAT IM GETTING MYSELF INTO :P
Daniel Evans thank you man. Hope you like the car! I've also done a full car review on it too.
If that wing stuck out more it would have been much better looking.
So is this supposed to be the equivalent of the fg4/fb6 si in the states? Hope not cuz im sorry this one looks so awkward and ugly
Amazing car..my champ white with lsd is a great car. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I've had an ep3 and dc2 and as much as I liked those I do this one equally. Don't let the top gear tv review put you off. If you check the top gear magazine review it's good.
Really good video thanks 👍
Really clean car, nice video!
Does this car have connection for an iPhone? I.e an aux port or USB?
Nicholas May it only has the connection for an old iPhone or ipod. (not lightning) I've tried using an adaptor lead but it doesn't work because it finds the track files and doesn't just play your audio through a jack like an Aux speaker would.
El Fantastico 2009 models onwards have those under the armrest, facelift models with headlight washers, like mine 😀
Hey mate, i had the radio issue on my fn1, got it sorted with the soldering. It's perfect now!
Nice one mate 👍🏻
I like yr accent.. where is it originated from? btw, nice review with honest approach
Zahemi AZUL ISLAMI thanks very much. I'm from Yorkshire in England.
Had an accord type r a while ago and the description of being branded by the gear knob is so accurate haha.
ha..the radio lcd is infuriating, i recommend re-soldering the pins - i had it replaced under warranty and still it went wrong, so rather than the £750 honda fix i just re soldered one single pin ( far left one for me )
Nick Green glad to know it works. It is a job I'm wanting to do in future.
Point 3 is hilarious. I thought it was only my car!
My fn2 doors never bother me, spoiler yes, in the beginning, but I got use to it😎, I don't listen radio have Bluetooth parrot system so I'm listening through my phone 😁
Nice video man your hates are my hates too lol, but im in love with mine too what a sexy rocket
I4NI Sounds couldn't agree with you more mate. 👍🏻
does the fn2 have aux or was that an option
Leon Palmer no I don't think so in my year anyway. Only ipod connection.
No. Was not part of the model.
I've bought a £10 bluetooth FM transmitter off Ebay that does the job.
How many miles??
I agree with the gear knob freezing in winter hehehe you make me laugh. most important thing its extremely reliable.
Kelly glad you enjoyed the video. It is very reliable, that's one of my favorite things about it ☺️
More power babyyyy
6:30
Sounds good to me.
But that shift knob looks so unpleasant that if I were to get one of these I'd swap it out.
Doc don't worry dude. If car throttle pull their finger out I'll have one soon 😀
Nice!
Been looking for your back seat swap vid .... where’s is gone ! Fn1 3 seater back seats in your fn2
That's not me buddy. Only done a video removing the back seats for a track day.
There is no doubt, the car is a true Type R. Great car
FrightfulAccountant you get it one hundred percent. As a place to sit, It makes you feel special. I think it's way in front of it's time.
What a blessing that there isn't english cars.Love your CTR cause exist worse cars as yours.
3rd gear is the reason I got rid of mine, drove me insane
mine does catch me out every now and then but luckily mines not that bad.
Get an ST m8. You'll love it!
Can't pal love the jdm too much 😂
So did I, from age 17-28 I owned 2 civic coupes, celica and 2 Type R's. At least have a go of one, you might change your thinking lol
I wouldn't mind a go /ride in one definitely. I just love mine to much at the minute.
What about the most important fault and that's the mpg???
Chris Gallighan I wouldn't really class it as a fault. You kinda know what your getting into mpg wise when you get this type of car.
It's a sports car, stop b*tchin' :)
PS I own one so I know...
How much did you Pay for your Type R in UK?
4.3k
Dam, that is Cheap as fuck, and how many Km??!!, I have The Honda Type S 2.2 2009 190k km for 7k € Haha
@@ALV2345FS cheap ones go for £2k!
Luv the fn2 the states never got this model I could deal with those faults the radio can be replaced
What are you bent down for?
I only had a small tripod at the time.
What is your insurance quote and how old are you?
Present day I'm 24, £850
I loved my type r fn2, but I had to get rid of it. Main reason was comfort. I had it for 3 years, and I’m sure I lost links in my spine.
@Jon yeah I agree it's very rough. I'm hoping some adjustable suspension will help smooth it out a bit.
Perfect video !!
Maxime Gerling thank you 😊
I understand the issue of the metal gear knob as I have an Si, but all you have to do is invest in some driving gloves???? Not a new invention as far as I know, and then it doesn't matter how hot or cold it is... Great vid tho, wish we had these in Canada.
Eric Mulligan that is a good idea. Although I don't really want to invest in some driving loves only for day to day city driving. My leather gloves will do for now I think. Thanks very much! I bet it's a bummer 😕
Also when you say a fiddle into third... Please expand because I think I have the same problem
Third gear is known for having synchro problems but you can help it without having them replaced with things like changing the gearbox oil, a weighted gear knob and even engine mount inserts to keep the engine and gearbox more stable whylst at high Revs.
Just the ride quality is harsh i hate the ride quality and i had my civic for over 5 years
roggy12345 only when driving normally, when thrashing country roads the harsh ride disappears and you feel glued to the road.
bitofbeer true but i live in an urban area. Maybe if u live on an airport runway its good bump anything else it's not. It's well documented this civic has a harshe ride
Can't be that bad if you kept it for half a decade!
i love them to .each to thier own I say main thing it's japan and seriously fast and vtec sounds class
ae86 irl exactly 👌
5:40 Bro a mini mouse seatbelt cover seriously :-)
David Ellis it's for the lady friend mate 🤣
Not had a rear view mirror in my ford for years not an issue for me
i owned an ep3 before and now own an fn2 there both great cars i prefer the fn2 cuz its more luxurious inside and it has more torque in the lower revs witch makes it easyer to drive around the city
Wesley Vandenbogaerde thanks for the insight bud I'll keep that on mind.
The clock radio - i don't use it but it is always flaking out - according to what it says most of the time I own a "HUNDAI LIVIL"
😂 😂 😂
I've got the normal civic same year, actually dont have any of the issues you have except the spoiler, pain in the arse blocks out half of the view!!
I thought mine was the only one with the radio readout problem!
Feel better now!
Jeff Walker haha now you know
Steering rack and suspension is better than the EP3. The EP3 has the better rear suspension and its a little lighter.
The FN2 like you say has other things going in it's favour. It's a much better car than Jeremy Clarkson would admit.
Due to him getting back handers from Ford down the Lodge. ;)
You could always stick a sock over your gear nob, that will keep it warm/cool 😎😎
Janet Wall very good point 👍🏻
cool video cool guy
thanks man :)
5:46 nice meenie
