We were in the midst of our own “Journey to the West” story. We were not supposed to be here, 10,000 km away from home. But by chance, we had arrived in Hangzhou during the final week of the "Black Myth: Wukong" art exhibition.
We came to realize, the online tickets had sold out days ago. By Friday afternoon, the rain was pouring heavily, but we refused to give up. We made our way to the China Academy of Art on Nanshan Road anyway, arriving to a serpentine queue of umbrellas. The ticket booth stood closed, and a “SOLD OUT” sign glared at us. Surely this was the end.
But we refused to give up.
We waited, clinging to rumors of last-minute tickets.
The crowd murmured as the clock neared 1 pm.
“Are they still at lunch?” someone wondered aloud.
Nothing.
Thirty minutes ticked by - doubt thickened.
Then... the door swung open...
