  • On today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast, Armando Velez(@Mandoman12) is joined by Florida Panthers Historian Francisco Oporta(@fjojr and @FLACatsHistory) to recap the Panthers' 5-4 overtime loss against the New York Rangers from Amerant Bank Arena. It's now the second straight game in which the Panthers lose in the extra frame (won 11 games in a row in OT prior to the last two). The Panthers controlled play once again on the night, but New York once again picked their spots to create mistakes into goals on the night, with untimely pinches, tip-in's, and New York's counter attack. Florida had six power play opportunities on the afternoon, where Sam Reinhart scored his first goal on the man advantage since Game 4 of Round One, then added another later in the first period. There was a missed opportunity for Florida when the Rangers Defenseman Jacob Trouba went to the box for two separate penalties. Although Trouba was not called for a 5-minute major, the 4-minute PP only saw one shot on goal, with also allowing one short-handed to Rangers forward Barclay Goodrow, who now has three goals in the series. The cats got on the board first, but had to climb back twice (when it was 2-1 and 4-2) to force overtime. The Panthers poured a lot of shots on Igor Shesterkin, but failed to take the eyes away from the one-time Vezina Trophy winner. In the last 8:13 of regulation, the ice was tilted in the Panthers' favor where Sergei Bobrovsky did not see a shot and with Florida having a multitude of offensive zone draws due to New York icing the puck a good amount of times due to being pinned in their own end. Florida had multiple sparks after some line shakeups, which resulted in quick goals to give themselves a chance to win. The guys give their three stars of the game, when they thought the game was lost. We discuss this and more on today's edition of the Locked On FLORIDA Panthers Podcast: Your Team, Every Day.

Not trolling, you came up in my feed, I watched, and responding as a Ranger fan, but several things you said are way out of whack. Number one, Freaky goals? Discounting tip ins? Watch it again, is all I can say, and the Rangers are quite good at it. Considering the Rangers top scorers haven't done squat so far, I would be worried if I was a Panther. They might not get going but then again they might. As far as Trouba getting a major, which is my second issue. Where were the majors for the hit on Vesey? How about any call? Guy got head butted and not a puck in that zip code, at a minimum should have been interference. He was actually injured and sat as well. Then the hit Wennberg should have been a major not a minor. The high stick to Linderman whose face along his nose is still purple from game one and no call. Hate to say it but its hockey and the "Intent" rule is moronic. The Panthers have most definitely received the benefits of the referee's eyes this series regarding penalties. So please no crying about calls particularly when your team has had some very clear benefits from calls.

This whole “Panthers should have won it!” without acknowledging why the Rangers won it. Without a doubt the Panthers controlled the game at points, especially the third, but so did the Rangers. Rangers have always been a lower shooting team, they just execute their shots well. And the major penalty argument like you said is useless. The reason it wasn’t was because the main point of contact wasn’t the head. Yes there was head contact but the point of contact was the back. Same thing with the Wennberg hit. He was hit in the head but the main point of contact was not the head.
Rangers were up 4-2 at some point. Up 2 goals. Panthers to their credit fought well to come back but this idea the Rangers were COMPLETELY outplayed is crazy.

@@Mr.Eeeeeeeee yeah I can't say I know much about the Rangers' brand of hockey, but I know people talk about the Panthers having a brand of hockey and also you just come to learn following sports over a number of years that teams have different "styles of play" or brands so to speak. So I guess it's 2 different brands of hockey clashing and we'll see who ends up the winner this time around. I won't be mad at the Rangers because I'm from NY and I'm a Giants fan, and they got the same colors lol, but I'll definitely be disappointed because I tend to have a soft spot for teams that have never won any championships. Unless it's the Philadelphia Eagles (unfortunately they got one in 2017) or the Denver Nuggets last year since they beat my Heat to get their first one lol. Anyways back to your original point, yeah if the Rangers can just hold on and then take advantage of opportunities when they arise then yeah, that's gonna spell trouble for the Panthers. A person I spoke to in a different comments section confirmed a suspicion of mine that the winner of this series would be the favorite to win the Cup. Obviously that's not guaranteed though but we'll see what happens
