  • I am reporting from Los Ebanos Texas.
Los Ebanos is a census-designated place in Hidalgo County, Texas along the Rio Grande River. Current population is around 335 people. It has a hand operated ferry that takes cars & people back & forth between the U.S. / Mexico.
Feels like a Ghost Town with many abandoned old buildings & history. Western rustic abandoned border town feel.
I take you on a tour of this area.

❤We have a old town like that here it's Old Abilene Town with the old buildings and jail except it's being all torn down. That's wild them people running that ferry are making bank charging all them people. If they go on a rope it's not costing them money but charging 2.00-3.00 dollars per person is wild. WOW yep that whole place was weird. Most people had a fence around their yards. Wild stuff for sure.😱🤔

I love places like that. Old west stuff. Yehawww :-) I really do enjoy that stuff though. That's neat. A one car ferry.. that is fun. That lady was very nice. It's a shame someone didn't keep them up - ya know. Those old buildings. It had 1870 on that old jail house. At some time that was a nice area I think. That was a popular crossing during the Mexican war in 1846. And the name was due to the large population of Ebony trees in the area. I googled it. That is neat. I bet those sprawled out trees with the branches hanging on ground in places are the ebony trees. I looked up the ebony tree too. Really interesting. In some countries - the "real" ebony tree can sell for 1 million dollars. The ebony trees there in TX (and some in Southern OK) can be used in place of the true ebony trees. They are very hard - and really rot resistant. Used for musical instruments and for really nice decorations. That has been fun J. I enjoyed this.

Jonathan Lee Riches is a convicted fraudster known for the many lawsuits he has filed in various United States district courts.[1] Riches was incarcerated at Federal Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky, for wire fraud under the terms of a plea bargain. His release date was April 30, 2012.[2] He was arrested for violating his federal probation in December 2012, when he left the Eastern District of the state of Pennsylvania without permission. He allegedly drove to Connecticut and impersonated the uncle of Adam Lanza, the shooter in the Sandy Hook Elementary School incident.

    Oooookay.
I've been visiting the town of Los Ebanos since the early '60s---my grandmother's house resides across from the town cemetery.
Although enthusiastic about your work, those "saloon-front" buildings and "town jail" are not authentic structures.
Los Ebanos was established roughly in the mid-1800's. That dwelling at 2:00, yes, is an authentic piece of property; the "saloon-front" buildings were added some 20-30 odd years ago; quite possibly for local tourists either coming to Texas or leaving for Mexico via the International Ferry.
Also, Los Ebanos, although not quite a thriving metropolis, is hardly a ghost town.
There are many citizens who still live within the small town. In fact, one man from California's west coast moved to Los Ebanos a year ago. The Los Ebanos town church, St. Michael the Archangel, was remodeled back in 2018. The church, itself, is over a 100 years ago.
I had the opportunity to visit St. Michael's last Fall, and finally got to see the interior---I had been baptized there in the Fall of '64.
The pews are original, dating back 100 years ago; while the rest of the interior has been brought up to date.
Los Ebanos also sports its own Post Office, as well as a recreational park complete with stadium lights, bleachers, and even iron grills for bbqing. A pedway runs along the perimeter of the park for joggers, power-walkers, etc.
The town cemetery holds many of my family members, including my grandmother. I remember her interment: Dec. 4th, 1978.
Oh, and its proper pronunciation would be "Ebanos" as in "Ebony"
    "Los Ebanos: Los Ebb-baa-nos."
    Hope this was all helpful.
