The best tip is to label each box with what room it goes in and what is in it! Then when you move in it’s easy to find things. Also leave clothes on hangers and put garbage bags over them tied at the bottom.
LOVED the things you wrote/drew in the new house. Such a sweet idea, brought me to tears! The girls will treasure those words forever. ❤️ Now I want to do that in the future for my kids!
We move every couple years and found like others have said that labeling boxes by room works best. BUT also keep one box/tub separate that goes directly in your car that includes parts, hardware, tools, measuring tape, etc. for easy access when you are moving into the new place. It’ll help speed up putting beds and other big furniture in place so you have somewhere to rest when you need a break from unpacking! We also like to keep a set of paper plates & utensils, copies of recipes, and measuring spoons/cups so we avoid eating out too much but also have an easy cleanup while still unpacking.
To save money on packing supplies, go to target and Walmart in the evening and ask them to save you boxes from restocking. Then go pick them up in the morning. We don’t buy boxes because we get so many for free by doing that. They are good quality and broke down so you will just need tape! We always have too many plastic sacks under my sink 🙄 but they make great packing material! They add a lot of cushion. I use them with the kitchen stuff so it doesn’t break! Add paper plates between your plates to keep them from breaking in a box. Wrap your forks spoons and butter knife organizer (with them inside) with Saran Wrap. Then pull it out unwrap it and put it in the drawer. Keep a box of important things for each room that need to be unpacked that day. I usually do linens, bed spreads and comforters so the beds can be made (an outfit or two) and the kids feel safe and comfortable. I do a bathroom one with towels, soap, shower curtain, toilet paper and any other essentials we need. Besides setting up the kiddos beds first and making sure that they are doing well, I unpack the kitchen as soon as we move in. I put everything away, so I can make meals and have the heart of my home in order. This usually takes about an hour or two then I move to the bathrooms and kid rooms. Usually my living room and master are the last haha. Get some straps to make carrying mattresses and dressers and couches easier. The go under the object and then you lift it with the straps. I’m not sure how to explain it but the uhaul store usually has some. Uhaul is usually the cheapest for short moves. Long distance Penske is the best deal. Write what is in your box on every side you can see!! The top and all four sides. Then put what room it is supposed to be in so when you move you can take it directly to that room without having to open it. Then unpacking you know what’s in it and the importance of that box. Makes unpacking easier. Good luck!!
I really liked seeing how you organize things. I keep my journals, cards, and tickets and put it in a shoe box for each year. I love it because it doesn’t take up a lot of space and I have a little capsule for the year. - also keep your wedding shoes I love looking at my moms wedding dress. Being able to hold it and even try it on makes me feel more connected to her.
We went down to one set of everything in the kitchen. People are in and out looking at everything and you have to keep the kitchen clean anyway. Pack all of your family photos from off the walls - our realtor didn’t tell us this! Also we put on quiet music and light essential oils. They told us that’s what sold our house because it felt like home.
Get a bunch of different patterned duct tape and use each pattern for each room so all living room boxes will be one pattern and so on! Make sure to make a key for yourself so you know which duct tape is which room!
Anytime I find shoes or pieces of clothing that look like they fit a character or time period, I donate them to our local high school's drama department. It is so fun to go see a show and recognize a prop or piece of the costume. And YES, the world needs more love. Pass it on!
I know this isn’t your first move, but I remember you saying you moved from parents to a new house, so you have more to pack and deal with. One thing that was super helpful when we moved is I labeled our boxes by room. That way everyone who helped new where it went. I also put a colored sticker dot so they matched up. Kitchen-yellow master- red etc. everything ended up being where it needed and made unpacking a lot easier!
Ooh, packing tips! You can buy tape that says things like “Living Room” or “Kitchen” or “Bedroom” etc. When we moved we kept the tape in the corresponding room, and when we packed everything up in that room, we cut off a bit of that tape and stuck it to the side of each box, that way we knew exactly where what box would go when it got to the new house. It helps save sharpie ink and your wrist from writing on the side of each box! Hope this helps!
Oh my gosh, Hailey, we’re so spirit twins (I’ve never used that phrase before but it feels right, haha). I have ALWAYS had the most childlike hand writing so people think I’m often in Kindergarten through written correspondence. I LOVE yours!! Your handwriting is artistic and beautiful! Mine, not so much! Love the house so muchhhh!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
You’ll never regret keeping your wedding shoes. You’ll only regret giving them away. My daughter just got married and she repurposed my veil and made it her own and wore it this summer on her wedding day. Keep it!!!
Give the shoes away as the girls will probably have different size feet and in 20 years the fabric on the shoes will have discolored. I turned my wedding dress into blessing gowns for all three of my girls. Each one got a dress made from fabric of the dress.
packing tip: color code your boxes for each room then put a piece of colored paper in that room on moving day so people don't have to ask where each box goes
I'm a super sentimental person so I'd keep it just because they're THE SHOES from your wedding. Maybe I'll want to wear them again one day on the same spot where you had your wedding and just have the best day with them.

You can take the shoes to a specialist to "renew" them
