Interesting .....as this theme of giving and receiving as it pertains to the physical action (sex😂) has been a theme coming up recently.... I ponder on the energetic order being corrected...as in feminine energy receptivity ...allowing oneself to be penetrated..be the "bride"...being open....these things are of course the physical act....but if one has has an inner marriage and realizes that the Divine is the giver..the spark, the impulse, the masculine principle as the intimate "husband/lover/beloved" Humanity has been in overdrive to produce and work and do ....whatever happened to humanity being the beloved of a higher provider (the merchant) So I sit here ....back in the embrace of Maui....sitting in stillness as I allow for the higher heavens to penetrate me with my abundance(house, car, money, food) So I'm being Open ... Not pushing forward into what action is..a masculine/physical force...I'm letting everything fall away and I am sitting in the knowing I am Beloved...I am known, I am held, I am provided for..I am guided ... Let's all pray that I Am knows what I Am doing😂 Yes as per usual...I'm free falling through time and space allowing myself to be The Fool who knows in the not doing everything will be done 😂😂😂

'The Great Work' is a big feature, they're all good cards but the 9 is particularly lovely! “The giver is in the guise of the merchant” = The giver is God or karma. In our secularized-spiritual tarot world we forget: Waite was a Christian. So I’d add an interpretation: Don’t play God by giving when you’re not in the space of abundance. When you are, give to the most needy and worthy.
Waite was certainly influenced by Christianity, having been raised a Catholic, but he reportedly lost his faith when his sister died in 1874. He studied many forms of mysticism but was mostly identified with Rosicrucianism by the time he conceived the Waite-Smith deck & went on to found The Fellowship of the Rosy Cross in 1915. However, the cards speak to us as individuals so if that's the meaning they're telling you then it is correct by definition 🃏⛤
This just goes to show that desire is not a demon to be purged, but a scale that must be balanced.
