Exactly. I put all the Deftones albums together on shuffle and sometimes I'll skip a song for months, sometimes I'll become obsessed with a song that I've always missed before.
Deftones has evolved over the years and still managed to cling to their roots which is mad impressive for a band that’s been doing it for as long as they have.
This song is ethereal, existential, transcendent. One of my favorite songs by them. Chills every time i hear it.
This song is so good I feel myself about to cry when I hear it.

Its from the album Koi No Yokan, meaning "knowing you will be together eternally at first meeting, differs from love at first sight." A knowing as a whole, more than a sexual or emotional attachment, that you and a person are linked at an interstellar level forever.

Seattle??? I almost went to that but couldn't transfer my tickets, but wasn't too concerned... We went to the first show on the tour in Portland, it was INCREDIBLE!!!! 🤯🤯
They’re the fathers of vibey “metal.” Abe Cunningham was such a huge influence on me as a young drummer because of his pocket. He made me realize you could play ghost notes in a heavy song
Diamond Eyes is also a great song and album to check out... a lot of good jams on that album

That entire album is a masterpiece!
This song is best described as an audio journey (much like the entirety of the album it’s on), and it really showcases what Frank Delgado brings to the band with the synthesizer. This song has so much atmosphere and ambience it’s dizzying.

Koi No Yokan is probly my favorite album from them! Since you're a drummer, I think (emphasis on think) you'll enjoy "What Happened To You?" Killer drum riff, and that perfect late night spacey cruising sound...
I've had my tickets for the same tour. They're coming in May to Texas.
I just saw them on the same tour in Los Angeles, California! They absolutely killed it & sounded the best they have out of the 4 times I've seen them. 100% agree on the "What Happened to You?" recommendation
@@xtreme1321 Only time I ever saw Deftones before last week was in... 2003? Summer sanitarium tour with Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and Metallica... Never had a chance to see them since, for whatever reason...😭
I was curious, excited, and the littlest bit worried about how they'd sound since it was their 1st show on the tour, and 1st show in what, a couple years? Throw in a brand new bassist, and I wasn't sure how they would sound, or if Chino's voice would hold up... You know? Like, would Chino sound amazing because his voice wasn't worn down from multiple shows? Or would he sound rusty, like you could tell he hadn't performed live for a long time...
So to make a long post even longer, Deftones put on an AMAZING show, visual and audio wise, and I already can't wait to see them again!!!!!

my interpretation of this song is that the beginning is where you are in shock......dying. The riff kicks in and you are all but dead......then when he says exploooooooode is the part where you are leaving your earthbound body to go to the next level. Whatever that may be. The ending riff makes me feel like you have finally arrived to heaven. Or to whatever you may choose

Their self titled record is my favorite. Perfect balance between early days and current. There is still not a bad album from them though. They do whatever they want, and I'm here for it.
The outro gets me every time.
Once you've gone through their entire catalog. You notice that they've always had this in them. You just have to go through everything to realize.
Pretty much every Deftones album since white pony is different.

Love this song, but it leads straight into the next song on the album; Goon Squad, it feels like it's mean as a two-part song imo!
I would recommend listening to the both back to back to get the fullest experience!

Thanks for doing this one. I was one of the people who requested, for me it's the only deftones track I listen to as it's different from the rest I've heard. Same same, but different.

Great song. Going to see Deftones on May 6th here in Atlanta, GA, and I really home this is one they play that night.

Album is Koi No Yokan. I believe Chi Cheng did some of his final bass work on this album. The way the song ends it leads onto Goon Squad.
It was Sergio doing the bass. Chi was in a coma at that point and died the following year.
BTW Bored is a dope song, if ya haven't figured that out already. I was at that video and our rehearsal spot was two spaces down.

I LOVE to hear reactions from the past. I recently bought an art piece covered in negative reviews of master classic artists.
I remember the TV show The Following using this song at the end of the series and it just hit completely differently for some reason. This album is probably my favorite, and has what I think is their best song ever, "Tempest". You won't question whether you like that or not.
Also, I just saw Deftones in Portland OR a few days ago. They didn't miss a beat and Chino sounded flawless! Great performance and was their first live show since Covid. 👏

I have had a lot of music grow on me after a few listens when I was not sure first time. This album was one of those and listen two turned in 200
Pink Floyd Animals. Do the ENTIRE ALBUM. ITS A MASTERPIECE. 🤯

Deftones range now days is phenomenal. This song is was not from the white pony album I know that. A lot of their great songs like this one and knife party, passenger all all very atmospheric. Literally sounds like you’re floating in the air or flying. This songs lyrics make me think that Chino the singer is dabbling in mushrooms or acid with some chick. Maybe..

Deftones “Error”
Really, all their albums are great. For me "Change (in the house of flies)" is the only song I don't care for. The progression they've shown over the years is phenomenal, while still maintaining a sound that can be easily recognized.
John and CO you guys need to do At The Drive Inn you will love them. Keep up the vids guys!

Love these reactions. Esp. From John, "Capt. Shady" himself. I know when he says he likes or appreciates something he's not blowing smoke. Because personal tastes aside let's be real, 75% of songs can be pretty unremarkable or complete shite no matter the band's effort. Kudos for the honesty here.
BTW, as a new Deftones fan, I'm digging the pocket where this track landed.
Funny enough, Jada had a metal band for a brief moment of time called Wicked Wisdom.

Maybe try the album in a sitting sometime? It could still have the same "different haircut" feel to you, but sometimes songs out of context of the album arrangement can sound odd as it may be the mellow song between two heavy ones or vice versa. Either way, nice observations. This album was nice, this song in particular came after Gauze a much heavier song, so this was the "breather" after it, just slow and chill to wind down before the final two songs of the album. :>
second this - Deftones very much make full albums that flow from song to song and picking out random tracks isn't always putting it in the best light -
I know this is a reaction for the channel, but I feel like if you really want to understand Deftones as best as possible then sit down and listen to full albums, even in chronological order to feel the evolution... 😉

Deftones is vibe music. I can barely watch reactions as halfway through the song I notice I'm eyes closed just vibing to the song lmfao.

You guys should check out poltergeist next, same album but more of a straight up Deftones song.
I don't know who would have suggested this song to a drummer, it's very underwhelming.. they have songs like KimDracula and Hole in the Earth that would blow a drummer away. And even more pleasing too actual music lovers as a whole. Not just Deftones lovers.
KimDracula is my all time favorite Deftones song.

Hadn’t heard this one before. I kind of feel like it’s a poor man’s version of Diamond Eyes (give it a listen if you haven’t, it’s really good). I don’t dislike this one, but it probably won’t make it into my playlist.

Obviously, preferences and taste are different for everyone, but a good amount of their hardcore fans (including myself) hail Rosemary as some of their best work...
I guarantee a few more listens and it'll make your playlist ;)
Actually the whole "Koi no Yokan" album is beautiful.
@@Ennui. I find it really interesting how preference and taste works. Two people can listen to the same thing and have completely opposing thoughts about it. Everything deserves a second chance, so I gave it another listen. I must have heard it before, cause I know I have listened to Koy no Yokan a couple of times, but I probably found it just as unremarkable as the rest of the album, which in my opinion is one of their weakest. The only track that really spoke to me was Leathers, which made it to the playlist straight away. Maybe it will grow on me 🤷♂️

Some people enjoy Deftones for their heavy stuff (earlier albums) and some people enjoy their shoe gaze-ish sound like this particular song.
It either works for you or it doesn't...

White Pony will probably forever be my favourite album of theirs, with Saturday Night Wrist on a close second. Those two albums have shaped me so much as a drummer. Anyways... There's a beautiful fan video of this. I don't know if it is from a video game or what but, it's perfect. Deftones have few flaws in their songs, as out of tune as it can seem to be. At times.
P.S. The band is a balance between Chino's melodic nature and Stephen's guitar aggression. They give and take and the result is sometimes either way
