This is an amazing project and one I would love to see all over our continent. Everywhere around me I see precious greenspace being concreted over in order to build yet more housing. Its heartbreaking especially as there are old renovation projects still be completed. The government doesnt seem interested in saving its architectural heritage but merely in destroying it's natural environment for quick profit.
It is happening in the United States, also. It simply breaks my heart. It is accelerating every few years. Even the area I grew up in was once wilderness. Now One can drive from Wisconsin to Chicago and not see any gap in development. Absolute mayhem, because many buildings end up empty. Parking lots are abandoned eventually. It's just pointless.

Nice idea and concept. Coa hunter-gatherers very probably left their legacy in many locals, because that´s what I saw when I was there. So Rewilding Europe is not only protecting nature, landscapes and culture, but the ancient locals that are part of this ancient complex intricate of human interactions with nature. At 5.56 m, on the right, that´s quite visible, for example, but I could mention more... There are also Predmost and Combe Capelle types, by the way.
Why do not rewild Germany, France and Benelux instead of Portugal and Spain? And then they would become tourist guides for us for our holidays (if it doesn't rain).
Instead of adding wifi to our national parks, maybe rewilding should be considered. It would reduce armchair tourism pressure while ensuring our wildlife will continue to have a place to call home. No ebikes - you have to walk or go on electric powered buses with multiple stops.

The spanish Hunter: "A good hunter is a the best ecologist". Not if there are too many "good hunters"... And later: "There use to be a lot of hunters because there were lots of preys... but not now because of factors" 😑 The only good hunters are those who only kill invasive species and/or are temporally replacing a lost preciding predator.
The balance with wolves is a good measure and hunting them should not be permitted as in Germany which suffers from to many grazing wild animals who multiply so much that even intensive hunting is unable to bring the necessary balance.
Rewilding does not usually introduce non-native species, so the concerns of the hunter are not necessarily valid. People who expect to see "big game" will be disappointed by an area like this and personally I think it is better not to try to appeal to this kind of ecotourist. People who truly value the natural world will love the area for its distinctive flora and fauna and wild character, and that is who I would target. Governments need to put regulations in place to stop such areas being spoilt by over-exploitation, which will "kill the goose that lays the golden eggs" and in the end destroy them. My personal view is that we should start with a fundamental rule that the area exists for the sake of the other non-human creatures, and then allow humans to interact with it but always with the wellbeing of those other creatures at the forefront. Otherwise it will be more of the same corrupt attitude that says the Earth only exists for the good of humans, and the domestic animals they exploit. Look at how that is working out in the 21st century!
We need rewilding all over the world, it's the only way to reverse climate change the natural way. Give Mother Earth the chance to heal herself, because Earth is the great nurturer, provider.
I've noticed several of these videos, people seem to be from other parts of Europe. Their accent is noticeably different. It seems like those are the ones resistant to what is happening. Trying to keep the gravy train going. Just my opinion, and I'm not from there. So I am probably wrong.
We have it, to a degree, in our Naional and State parks, there is quite of wilderness in the system. However, there are areas that do need rewilding due to over-urbanization.

You misunderstood. You see hunting is a very Important part of conservation, it might sound contradictory but let me explain. Hunting is a heavily regulated activity, only a certain number of animals can be allowed to be hunted and only a certain number of hunting tages are handed out to various hunters who pay large sums to purchase said tags. By doing this the money they pay to hunt is put into conservation efforts and into keeping the animals in the reserve safe and well kept. They also can only hunt a certain number of animals so over hunting isn’t a worry, they also only will hunt fully grown and mature animals who have already passed on their gens. Not to mention the fact that they can only hunt certain animals during certain months of the year, so the population has time to recover.

The only languages spoken in the viseo are Portuguse, Spanish, Dutch and English.
