  • With this video i'd like to give you a little guide to a great snare sound. The snare i use to show you my way of snare drum tuning is a 14 x 6,5 Ludwig Supralite snare drum. With this snare i'd like to show you that it doesn't always have to be an expensive snare drum to get a great snare sound.

    You don't have to spend a fortune to have a great sounding snare drum, this is a perfect example of that

      Yup this my main snare I took the string off and put straps on it I don’t use moon gels on it either I love the wide open tone you don’t need expensive drums to sound good also . I have a Tama super star classic maple drum set that I love I prefer them over more expensive drums and with this snare added to it sounds awesome !!!

    I just got that same snare but with ambassador coated on top and hazy at the bottom and let me tell it sounds amazing. If you’re in doubt don’t be anymore.

    As long as the drum shell is round and there is no problem with the bearing edges or strainer/snare wires, you‘ll get your desired sound even with relative cheap drums. An important information.

    You're absolutely right about snare wire tension and tone. I like them loose, to get that full body, but how do you keep the snares from rattling on?

    That low tuning at 540 is best for me. Just tuned same drum but using Evans genera dry head and omg! Not the genera HD dry though

    You should discuss your micing techniques. Also I hear a slight compressor kicking in on harder hits.

    i like this snare, doubting between this and the 5 inch version. why do you choose the 6.5? for more deep/low settings? or is it better for funk too?

    On my EDrums I simply select the sample I want no key necessary.
    On acoustic shells I always liked the Remo ebony emperor heads👍🏽

    Excellent choice of drum, but poor low tuning. You have to loosen the reso head also to achieve better low tuning.

      Hi Benjamin. It works with almost any snare. It’s Ludwig’s reso head that comes with the snare. //Simon

    I had the 5,5" version...nice peculiar tone but too much ringy (more than other steel snares I had).

    I prefer to hit the snare half way from the centre for clearer tone with an Ambasssador coated head

      @@ThomannsDrumBash i don't know what you mean by body but it rings out more whereas hitting in the middle it sounds slightly muffled.

    If you tune it with tune bot what would it be?

      His high tuning looks like it’s around 390 reso head and around 300 batter head. Shoot for a f sharp or g. For a fatter sound try reso @ 375 and batter @ 275

    This might sound incredibly stupid and shallow, but what's a good alternative to that batter head that wouldn't have a giant, obtrusive logo always staring up at me? lol

      They all have a logo. I use Evans, not quite as large a logo. I like them a little more than Remo, very easy to tune, and they hold it, but I tune to specific pitches.
