    Great reviews, much better and informative than most others. Thanks for making the effort.
    Do you have any plans to review the Dell S2721DGF?

    Thank you very much for your recommendation. I agree that the poor contrast ratio of the 27GL850 is a real weakness, and I was looking for an alternative so I just bought this monitor, well the FI27Q to be precise.

      @@Cappurnikus shit, returned it. Started flickering, and the glow was.. not good. The build quality was amazing though.
      Apparently the innolux panel that this monitor uses is prone to flickering. I will say that the colours and contrast were very good.

      @Nhu Lam so it's a TN panel so there are obvious drawbacks there, mainly that the panel can't do good blacks. With some gamma adjustments you can compensate for that but with the result that you get some black crush.
      On the other hand there is very little glow unlike IPS panels and, on my unit at least, there's very little BLB, only a little on the right side that's not noticeable 99% of the time, units vary in this regard though so bear that in mind.
      I've also noticed a vertical scan line effect that occurs from time to time, from what I can tell this is something that high refresh rate panels suffer from sometimes and it's not noticeable unless you sit like 5 inches from the monitor so it's not a huge problem.
      Aside from those points the monitor is excellent, very fast response times and the adaptive sync works flawlessly which is an important issue for me.
      I'm not quite out of the returns window yet so I haven't fully decided, but I think I'm going to keep it.
      One thing I will say is that the best IPS alternative which is the Dell S2721DGF is a much cheaper buy at the moment if you get it from the Dell store, buy comparison the X27 is very expensive so that's a negative for it.
      Personally I wasn't willing to play the IPS glow lottery anymore so that's one of the main reasons I've gone with the Omen.

    Non adjusable brightness in SRGB mode is a HUGE dealbreaker for me. It's also slower and more expensive than lg 27gl850, but has a better contrast. I don't think it's better overall.

    • @TechyTalkUK
      @TechyTalkUK 3 года назад +8

      It's super frustrating as, really, none of these displays gets everything right, despite having all the technology on hand to do so. Contrast is noticeably bad on the LG, it's lacking in features and at the time I reviewed it it was selling for £500. Now its price has dropped and it's one of only very few monitors in its class to offer brightness adjust in sRGB (although even then the sRGB mode has poor colour balance). You've then got the likes of the gigabyte that get nearly everything right but lack the brightness adjust (and its price seems to fluctuate a lot - it's expensive in some territories but "only" £500 here). As for response time, there's very little in it. The LG only achieves it's best performance in its fastest overdrive mode, which looks terrible. And if you really care about motion performance, the Asus VG27AQ easily wins thanks to ELMB. But it only offers a slightly higher gamut for HDR and contrast is awful in sRGB mode.

    • @n4mlss
      @n4mlss 3 года назад +2

      @@TechyTalkUK Hardware Unboxed review mentioned that the best overdrive mod for LG at all refresh ranges is fast, and you'll get around 4ms response time.. which is fairly better than 6ms avg for Gigabyte (you'll also have to switch between modes). Asus model has issues on lower refresh rates and also has slower g2g response time. If LG had better contrast it would be ideal for me..

      The LG has slightly faster response time but otherwise the gigabyte is better. Although the LG is much cheaper now. They were both around $500 but now LG can be had for cheaper while the gigabyte is often closer to $700.
