  • Yes, for real, this is actually a 5.7K timelapse, though RUclips only has 5K and 6K selector options. Still, pretty sweet. Shot on the VIRB 360 in timelapse mode (photo) and edited in Final Cut Pro X.
I'll be making the full 5.7K file available shortly on Dropbox for those that want to download without any RUclips compression loss.
In the middle of video, there's some flashing going on - looks like different exposures occurring causing that. I didn't override to manual pro settings for this one, though probably will on future ones to remove that.

This has got to be one of the best timelapses I've seen! Brings back so many great memories from touring there!

great video. what kind of control do you have on the Garmin ? Can you set the shutter speed manually ? The ISO ? The aperture ?

Hi Ray, I have just bought one of these cams, despite some quite negative reviews online. But the video quality was the overriding factor in my choice... I can't see to find any help/pointers in the 5.7K stitching process. You say you edit the above video in FCPX, did you have to stitch it first and then edit, or is there someway that FCPX can allow me to do all that is required.
I haven't even received the camera yet but just wanting to stay ahead of the game. I am planning a vacation next week so just want to know wether should shoot 4K for handiness or 5.7K for quality.
    Many thanks!! Mal.

I'm waiting for Garmin to give me a bit more clarity on how best to do the 5.7K process. They are working on getting the 5.7K piece into VIRB Edit shortly (probably this summer), but it's not there today. My recommendation to make your life easier is to shoot it all as 4K, which means you can do stabilization, overlays and all that goodness. The exception would be if you are doing something non-moving (like sticking the camera on a tripod for a sunset or something), where overlays/stabilization are meaningless. In that case, maybe consider 5.7K for the fun of it, but just be prepared that the process will be messy short-term. Just my two cents on what I'm doing today.

So how do you get the moving camera effect? Did you go up and turn the camera every hour?
Or was it on a turning tripod?
And my last question is how do I get the smooth moving cloud motion? Do I have to speed up the video? Or did you just use echo effect?

I put it on an egg timer tripod thingy: amzn.to/2TMoLR4 With timelapse it automatically speeds up stuff.

Very impressive timelapse 360 quality. But I've a question about the "flashes" that appears on the video. This problem can be resolved by using the pro settings like exposure lock? Also during the normal recording can be lock the exposure and white balance?

Yup, it's already been fixed actually in a firmware update about three weeks ago. I was using exposure lock - but it seemed like there was a slight bug in there.

How did you change the settings to remove the noice from the picture quality on the Virb 360?

Hi, why is the 360 video moving itself to the left?

    • @Dcrainmaker

I put it on a small rotating tripod, just to make it more interesting.

I`ve read your article reviewing the Garmin and noticed that this timelapse was taken in photo mode. Are the photos taken at 5640x2816 and stitched in camera? Does the photo or video timelapse mode allow you to manually set the shutter, iso, white balance? Thanks!

The photos are stitched in-camera, and appear as a flat image. I then took those images into Final Cut Pro (but Quicktime would work too), and made a movie out of them. Super easy. Within any mode you can set the pro settings.

Attention everyone, I had bought the Garmin virb 360 5.7k camera in August.
The official software cannot edit 5.7k video. If you want to edit your 5.7k video, you need to buy a 3rd party software.
You can only view 4k video or 2 separate video.
I had complaint to Garmin HK, their staff said they will develop a software which can support 5.7k video in future.
To sum up, we can only take care ourself and no one care about us.

I did take out a picture from your dropbox, i did check them, my god 72 DPI for a RAW picture, that is really bad these days, when you take pictures in RAW they have to be at least 300 DPI, so very disappointing camera when it comes to taking pictures.
