Off subject I know but I just used LP Tamiya paint for the first time and I can't believe how nice it is to use and how well it covers , I know it's sad to be so excited by a paint..(lol) but I am ...!! I think this paint is absolutely amazing goes on unbelievably nice I was using it at 20 psi at 50/50 and was stunned how good it is ... later

I bought one of each this weekend no matter if I need it at the moment of not. These are amazing! As for adding the thinner, add the thinner directly to the bottle to the first lip and it works amazing
It’s not a miracle I can spray these neat it doesn’t mean its correct. Thinning them to their correct ratio is using them to their full potential and the correct way to use them. Take advice from an experienced modeller that’s used these paints for years
a very helpful review for the Tamiya LP's … i think, i will start using my airbrush with LP's, because i 've had always my best results in painting with TS rattle cans..!
Love that red. Using LP colours for some time. Here in Africa we don't get hang up about the labels - so we have them for some time. Thx for the video - haven't used the clear yet - so that was good to see.
Well, trying these paints right now. Tamiya Grey primer. Mixed Gloss White with a few drops of pure blue. I added too much blue but I'm rolling with it. Doing a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback. I'm really bummed out with the color. I was shooting for a slightly tinted white with blue. Oh well. Next time . Lol
Good vid again Paul, nice looking paints! Interesting use of the 'barrier coat' to stop bleed through, but I'm not 100% convinced it actually worked. I've always thought bleed through was due to how opaque or not the decals are. I've always applied gloss coats before decalling on both cars and aircraft, and I've had bleed through on various colours with various decals, and with other decals no bleed through at all.... Whatever, that GT40 is looking absolutely stunning!
The Tamiya LP range has been available here in NZ for about a year, now. I bought a few and tried them, using them alongside the Mr Color Range (not the Aqueous). I finde them fully the equal of Mr Color BUT I don't particularly like the fact that they come pre-thinned (but not to airbrush thinned) as the Mr Color is much thicker in the bottle and therefore lasts much longer as you can thin it out, making Mr Color go a lot further in use than the Tamiya bottle will.. But Tamiya have put out a fine range of paints and I, too, will look at using the clear coats alongside the Testors Gloss & Dull coats I have.
Have you used the retarded thinner? Just wondering how it compares to Mr Leveling Thinner. As you probably know getting Mr Leveling thinner in NZ is a PITA.
For How many 1/24 car bodies does usually Tamiya Laquer Paint bottle 10ml last? With me i finished 1 LP 02 on ONE SINGLE BLOODY BODY 3 coats … over light grey primer …. Any tips here because they come expensive

I'm building a 3D printed plastic 1/16 RC tank and I'm wondering if I can use Tamiya XF acrylic paints (round bottle) for the lower hull, or should I use LP instead. Will LP have a significant difference against XF series in terms of protection from scratches, paint durability ?

Either will do and it depends on the paint colour, white reds and yellow will require less, darker colours you can push a bit more - Thanks for watching - Paul :)
They would already have it if their government didn't have a problem with a label having foreign language printed on it. We have had it in Australia for ages now. But I guess when you need to cater to the american market, you have to speak American.

Hi Paul Firstly , really loving the channel and the great content so far. Do you really think that the LP9 could be used solely as the final clearcoat then ? I work at a small desk in our living room and have tried 2k clear but it stinks the house out for days so not very wife friendly lol I've been relegated to clearcoating in the garden with rattle cans. Tamiyas lacquer paints don't seem anywhere near as smelly so was thinking the LP9 might be a viable substitute. Anyway keep up the good work mate.
You could but it’ll take alot of thin coats building to wet coats near the end. I would use the mr hobby if clear in a spray van myself. I’ve had good results with it. Look for my yellow rx7 build on the channel

Great videos...I'm just starting out, what is the primer did you say you used on this car...Tamiya Pink primer TS..etc... I am actually building Tamiya motorcyles and doing the ducati which has Italian Red on it...some paints look like they are going to be acrylic for some parts and enamel for some parts as I couldnt find equivalents in lacquer for them, unless you know what the matching LP is for these: (X5=LP? , X6=LP? , X9=LP?, XF19=LP? , XF54=LP? , X12=LP?, X13=LP?). Is there a generic base coat that I can use that can take acrylic, enamel and lacquer? or anything specific you think might be good? I have looked on the net and couldn't find anything on these specific paints/colours. If you have the time could you let me know please or even a link I can get the answers...Thanks in advance...

Erm I would simplify it by saying thin 50% and just add a touch more lol. You dont need to be be perfect with thinning. So 1 part paint to 1.2 parts thinner
I'v been using LP paints 1:1 ratio. I have Iwata Revolution CR with 0.5 nozzle. What you think,can I go even thinner? Feels that paint lays down. too rough with 1:1. Do you thing I can go 1 part paint and 2 parts thinner? Chears!
Oh my! That 1.5 to 1 ratio worked great. First time I realize how important thinning ratio is. And go as thin as you could go, and do several layers. Big thanks and salute to you Paul!
I am just starting to use an airbrush and after using these paints from Tamiya, I had some trouble cleaning my airbrush. All the paint in the airbrush was hard to remove. To be honest, I didn't use the Tamiya laquer thinner. Will I be able to clean the airbrush better when using the Tamiya thinner? Do you have some tips how to clean the airbrush efficiently?
Lacquers have advantages and I don't doubt these are good. However you didn't mention the issue of odor - that's important to me and I'd guess others. Another reviewer that the Tamiya lacquers are extremely powerful in smell - however, he used hardware store lacquer thinner. How would you grade this stuff with Tamiya lacquer thinner? Is it more pungent than standard Tamiya?
It'll smell worse than standard tamiya paint of course as its lacquer, as for the smell im not really in the habit of smelling them a lot as I have a good spraybooth and respirator

Well.....looks like NEXT TIME I paint a model I'm gonna have to be dressed in a FUCKING HAZMAT SUIT ! I tried my best to do a nice job on my Mustang and I keep getting dust and debris in the paint. I'm about to call it QUITS with building models. This is TRULY disappointing and pissing me off ! . I am gonna let the Tamiya Lacquer set over a day, sand all the specks of dust, fibers out of the paint, re-shoot it again. I had so much high expectations for this kit. This was the kit I wanted to separate from my other built kits and take a step forward. Maybe I'll take a basket weaving.

Nope that’s wrong the paints not even thinned 25% that way. These should be thinned at least 50%. It complete misinformation about filling to the lip

Doesn't adding to the bottle destroy the bonding agents of the paint over time? Unless you plan to use the bottle in the next weeks or so

Varies on colour. Personally I don’t think of the cost. Just how good the paint is

Lacquers should be far more resistant than acrylics.

Hi Graeme, a few hours should be fine with lacquers, my standard answer though is leave over night 10-12 hours to be safe

I dont know to be honest Judy as ive never done it, I would guess add a little at a time testing as you go, just make sure its a lacquer retarder.

Did you spray the tamiya lacquer clear on top of the decals or you sprayed 2k clear over them? Im wondering if the tamiya clear would eat the decals.

Another reviewer that the Tamiya lacquers are extremely powerful in smell - however, he used hardware store lacquer thinner. How would you grade this stuff with Tamiya lacquer thinner? Is it more pungent than standard Tamiya?
It'll smell worse than standard tamiya paint of course as its lacquer, as for the smell im not really in the habit of smelling them a lot as I have a good spraybooth and respirator

@@InternationalScaleModeller oh well I mixed the LP-19 with 20 ml of leveling thinner and 5 ml of Tamiya paint retarder lacquer and it seemed to work

yep thats it 70-30% ish thinner to paint

I watched it back and yes I do. Tamiya Lp9 for the first barrier coat then Prorange 2k clear for the final

Hi paul great review, havent tried these as yet but they look great, can ask you, can the clear l.p. paint as a final clear coat be sanded back and polished like 2k?
Hey Glen, yeah it'll be fine but it'll take a lot more coats and you will have to watch it eating decals with the amount of thinner in there.

Well.....looks like NEXT TIME I paint a model I'm gonna have to be dressed in a FUCKING HAZMAT SUIT ! I tried my best to do a nice job on my Mustang and I keep getting dust and debris in the paint.
I'm about to call it QUITS with building models. This is TRULY disappointing and pissing me off ! . I am gonna let the Tamiya Lacquer set over a day, sand all the specks of dust, fibers out of the paint, re-shoot it again. I had so much high expectations for this kit. This was the kit I wanted to separate from my other built kits and take a step forward.
Maybe I'll take a basket weaving.
