I'm a 90s kid so I entered the hobby when it came out in 99! Even bought some Japanese single cards on eBay. I exited in about 2005 and got back in in 2023!
that’s funny- I probably STARTED collecting in about 2005 and stopped in about 2012. Got back into it at the end of last year:)
Same years with me lol
Im a bit younger than most people who enter the hobby (17), so I got into the hobby in the XY era. I would crack open a copious amount Roaring Skies and even some B&W Legendary Treasures when those were more affordable and available. Sadly, I re-entered the hobby at the worst possible time (the S&V era). Fingers crossed it gets better.
Definitely same (19) feels sorta overwhelming with how fast they release but since I finally got a steady job looking back and getting some older stuff has been really fun just seeing what I completely skipped over
Also 19… honestly, modern will just never hit me quite the same as XY, most definitely because of the nostalgia. I think what they are doing nowadays with the artwork is amazing, some truly beautiful cards. That said, I like what I grew up with. Decided to make a side hustle out of it, buying and selling Gen 4-6 sealed products, there’s a TON of profit to be made, keeps me in the hobby, keeps me collecting.
13, entered in with XY steam steige left in Evolving skies. Came back in 151 ( but only collecting like >2019) yes SV suck
I remember I first started collecting Pokémon when I was in elementary school and my parents where going through a divorce so the hobby helped me get through all those tough confusing emotions. I was too young to remember prices but I do remember going to flea markets and seeing so much Pokémon cards being sold! It really is amazing that Pokémon has been going on all these years 😊😊😊
Got into this adventure with my son in 1999, so I remember Base Set BOXES for around $100!!! Have been in and out several times as life and finances change. Current run started in the last year of S&M. And there's nothing more entertaining than Sean's incomplete sentences!! "Under Boob"
I started collecting for a short time in 99-2002 and I got back into the hobby again last year so it's a completely different scene, which I suppose isn't unexpected given the time gap between my collecting but the prices for specific cards and boxes now seems hard for the average fan/collector to keep up with. Going to stores now, at least where I live, you cross your fingers that the shelves have one blister pack left. It's still awesome to collect and it's been great to get back into the hobby. Thanks for all your content as usual PokeVault.
Started collecting around black and white buying the 20 dollar tins at toys r us. then stopped around sun and moon base release for like 8 years through quarantine. Finally restarted last fall with 151 and have been looking through buying just what looks cool from around xy and sun and moon since xy was definitely my favorite era.
Course I’d never seen or held a base set pack but have some cards from around then whether from garage or thrift stores but definitely wish id kept up with the hobby more
As a late 90s kid, I got into the hobby during the late WotC era and really fell in love with it during EX and Diamond/Pearl. Fell out of love with it during gen 5 and ended up coming back midway through SwSh. You can imagine how badly I wish I'd kept a lot of that older stuff sealed lol.
I’m only 20 so I’ve been collecting since late D&P, and it’s crazy how much this tcg has transformed. I stopped collecting for a while after XY finished, but was still opening packs. It wasn’t till tag teams when I started actually collecting again
I used to collect as a kid back in the late 90’s early 2000’s, I have a binder filled with vintage cards including the topps set… it’s where abouts are unknown though😢 I got back into collecting in 2023 and I’m loving it!
I entered the hobby when I was a kid when Pokémon first came out in 99. I was in and out for a while. Now that my 2 boys are into it I have been back with them for the last 2 years!!!! Nothing better that collecting with my sons!!!!
Entered the hobby in 1999 and collected with my sister for a couple years. Then got into sports cards and forgot about Pokemon. Got back into it last year and loving it!
Started back around 2001 and used my allowance to buy a pack every couple of weeks. Fell out of the hobby around 2005 when Yugioh was became the local card game everyone played and could only afford 1 card game, but back at it now and, while I'm sad for all the years I missed, I can't help but look at all the awesome cards that are coming out now and my love for the hobby is stronger than ever.
Another 90s kid here, I was ripping jungle, base and fossil as a kid. :)
I re-entered the hobby when obsidian flames dropped, wanted to build a collection for my daughter and I since I lost all my old cards.
Also a 90s kid and was buying packs for like $3 at card shows at the time. Left for a long while and came back into it in the middle of Sword and Shield era. Good times!
90’s baby! I started at the beginning! I remember going in stores and buying base set and fossil packs and opening them in the sandbox back home. Boy if I knew what I know now! 😢
Got into Pokemon 13 ish years ago and I’m 21 now, haven’t been disappointed! Sitting on a 12k collection at the moment, and it continues to climb. BW/XY era was honestly the peak of full arts
Started the hobby as a kid. I have one base set pack several jungles and fossils into the neo era but stopped right before neo Destiny... Which hurts to this day. I got back into it around chilling reign. However I did do a RUclips video that you can go watch where I bought a vivid voltage and a crimson invasion pack in the store called opening a pack 20 years later. Not even knowing what reverse holos were or anything. Everything was new to me lol.
You have a really good organizational system in the garage. It gives us a great insight into the way your mind works
Ya im old, so I was "too cool" in 99 for Pokémon. I got into Pokémon when crown zenith arrived cause my kids liked watching Pokémon videos like yours (Thank you for that Vault!!) Now I feel like these packs you just opened are legendary and such a treat! I wish I got in years ago.
Entered the hobby back in 2022. You and Phantump were the first channels I started watching. Crazy how the market calmed for about 1 1/2 years and now its crazy again.
I started the hobby in the base set - fossil era when I was a kid. Then periodically would buy packs from time to time, especially during evolutions. I've fully gotten into the hobby since SV151 and I don't see me quitting any time soon!
I entered the hobby in ‘99. I bought my first base set pack in ‘99 and pulled a base Alakazam holo. That card still holds a special place in my heart man❤️
I’m in the process of moving at this very moment. Your garage is nothing compared to what I’m dealing with right now. lol. I’m definitely jealous of your garage contents vs mine. Those Hidden Fates Zard tins are 😍. I hit the button a long time ago and it was a great decision. I honestly just started collecting again when 151 came out. And no I have never seen a base set pack for $50. That would be amazing lol. Hit the button already people. 😊
My boys started collecting/opening packs roughly 3 years ago. I've just recently become obsessed with completing sets and getting them appraised etc.
Entered the Pokemon scene in 1999. Pulled a Charizard and then pulled another the next day and was hooked. Got back into the hobby with Fusion Strike. Pulled an alt art Celebi and been hooked again ever since!
I first entered the hobby during late Black and White days but I fell out of it during beginning of Sun and Moon days. I've very recently got back into collecting Pokemon cards and I've been having a lot of fun!
Got a lot of sky ridge packs as a kid which now turns out to be quite sought after:)
Now 20 years later i got back into the hobby after seing these videos, loving it!!
Should've walked your dog to the park and opened the packs at the park lol
Ya 😂
If you deflect the overhead light with a softbox light deflector. Like what is used in high production photography. It should disperse the light and reduce glare. Hopefully that helps. Happy huntin those chase cards! 💛
I started collecting with my kids in 2018 but I wish I had started when base set was released and you could buy a box for $40 or a pack for $1.50
I have re-entered the hobby during Pokemon GO hype in 2016, but when I first started I was buying packs of Platinum sets for $1 a pack :))
I entered the hobby in the 90's, so I remember when base set packs were around $3 - $5 each. Left during the Neo era, came back for Evolving Skies.
I'm soooo stupid I didn't know the value back in the days when I was totally obsessed with Topps those cards are still my favorite arts and Pokémon cards. Brings back very nice memories of watching every detail of those cards
I started collecting way back at base set! I did base set, jungle, fossil, base set 2, and team rocket. I do not recall collecting any sets after that until 2021 when I re-entered the hobby because of Evolving Skies. I did keep up with the games though through all of that time!
I started in 99. Bought some random packs again for my nephews in about 2018.
But then bought a single Obsidian Flames pack for my daughter and looked into it again. Seen 151 was coming and was immediately hooked again.
Im a 90s kid who entered the card game in early 2000s, right before the ex era started. I lived in a small town that didn't have shops that sold TCG or anything so it took a while for us to get our hands on those. My first cards were mostly dutch cards from the first 3 sets, which is a language that is now discontinued. I stayed with the hobby until about 3 of 4 sets into diamond and pearl era, after which i left because some shitty thing happened in my personal life. I do remember wanting to get back into it but by then gen 5 had released and i hated the designs at the time. Although i did play the games, mostly when remakes came out like ORAS and the 20th anniversary pokemon red themed 2DS launched, i never got back into the cards for some reason.
I finally got back last year when i randomly bought a pack in a store for nostalgia when we were out with some friends. I also saw this alakazam box which suprised me since kadabra wasn't in the tcg back when i was a kid. I googled and found out about 151 and got back in to it. After 151 i collected pogo since its cheap and i did play that, then i started to collect the later swsh sets because they have alot of hisuian and sinnoh pokemon, so i stopped with sinnoh around 2009 and am now collecting sinnoh again 15 years later :)
That last card is not bad at all!
I was in elementary school when Pokemon cards came out and had a little binder (no idea where that went). I got back into them about 3 years ago and now I’m always trying to spend any extra money I have on them.
Entered the hobby a year ago or so, but at my age (19) it is harder to start and collect due to the bizarre prices. Enjoyed pokemon trough the different games for more than 10 years so the focus of buying cards is more on the fun and nostalgia than on collecting, but that is more than fine by me because that is what the hobby is for! :)
I started collecting back in the day when OG base set cost $3/pack. I got back into collecting with the 151 set, so around $6 or so per pack with the ETBs
Those Zekrom and Pikachu GX boxes contain HEAT 🔥
Got in the hobby back when base set in English first edition released as a 9 year old kid in 1999..only stayed in it for maybe a couple of years. Just recently got back into the hobby in the past year. Was watching content related to it for a while before, but didn't actually start collecting again right away.
I started into the hobby when I was 7, a 98'cent store used to sell the Japanese ones before the english ones came here. I think it was 1997-98. I don't ever . I don't remember seeing a base set for $40 but I only bought singles or booster packs
I started collecting in '98. I remember I could get Pokemon Jungle booster packs from my local store for £1.00 a pack. So yeah, EVERYTHING seems crazy prices to me now I've restarted collecting lol.
Just got back into it with 151 this year! The nostalgia has me hittin hard from my base set to neo genesis days!
Entered the hobby around the Team Up set! Loved that set! 🎉
I only got into the hobby in March 2023, so recently. I have never seen base set, generations, celebrations, etc. I came in around Crown Zenith, which is a damn banger of a set. Boom bang!
I used to collect as a kid, but recently re entered the hobby last year! Luckily i still have a few base set packs in storage :D
*I entered when it first launched. You could get base set packs for like $4.99. Boxes were hella cheap when it crashed in 2002. I think they dropped to like $100/box!*
I started collecting in 99 with base set. I collected until around 2003 and then I started collecting again in 2021. My bf bought me some cards to open for my birthday cuz I enjoyed watching poketubers a lot. I pulled a charizard vmax rainbow from shining fates and then learned about alt arts. Ive been hooked since, trying to get all the alt arts lol
I collected as a kid around the fossil fossil era but finally decided to start collecting again when crown zenith dropped, and now fully addicted 😂
But don't remember ever seeing cheap base set packs
Base set in the 90s was so much fun as a kid
I remember as a kid going into the stores and getting base set and every other wotc sets! My favorite I remember is probably aquapolis. I still have all the hits from when I opened those packs too
I collected for a bit as a kid in 99, but in the early 2000s Pokemon really fizzled out and became "uncool". I only got back into the hobby a year or so ago with the intro of Japanese 151, and now I'm hooked 😂
Collected from base set into gen 3. Just got back in February and found your channel the first week. Been here for every video since!
I entered the hobby around 2004. Those were the days!! Definitely wish I could go back!
I got in the hobby last November and I'm 48. I saw base set packs for retail price! Just didn't know they would be a big deal back then...
Simple and straightforward advice when in doubt 😁
I just started this year. I’ve missed out on so much. Had a bunch of the base set when they first came out and ended up moving from the Bay Area to Sacramento and in that process handed off all my base set Pokémon and yugioh cards to my neighbor who was a little bit younger than me. I regret it to this day 😂 but silver tempest got mistreated since lugia is my favorite pokemon and am chasing it. Yeah of course I can buy it but I like the thrill of chasing it. I’m 33 now and still feel like a kid opening cards.
I got to enjoy opening base set as a kid
Officially ordered my first slab city box yesterday. I am beyond excited
I used to have some cards back in 2000’s but since our house had undergone renovations, my collections got lost somewhere along the way, i just got back to it last december, slowly trying to collect every card out there but i am starting small with scarlet and violet and sword and shield
I see some family dollar break point packaging 👀 😁😁
i entered the hobby around the evolutions year in 2016, card and packs were so much affordable back then definitely miss those days
Entered in the tail end of B&W beginning of X&Y fell off around S&M wish I didn’t lol came back at the beginning of SW&SH and have continued through to S&V and loving every minute of it
90s kid here, still holding onto an unopened Blastoise booster pack! Just getting back into the hobby. When I purchased the blastoise booster it cost me something like $4... So never seen booster packs above $50 (unless resale)
I have a pokemon channel
I love how honest that hit recap was 😂 I was in stitches
Started collecting as a kid. My first big hit was Moltres EX from FR LG. I still have it and it's in immaculate condition
Started collecting in 2000. Been in and out over the years and currently back at it. I remember base set packs for a couple dollars 🤣
I entered the hobby back in 1999 as a 11 year old. I remember they had to ban Pokemon cards from schools because they were so popular. I remember base set, jungle and fossil packs being $3.99. If only I would’ve known
I got into the hobby as a kid. It was about the HGSS era, but I dropped it after the BW era. But I stared again with the beginning of SwSh and I'm now as committed as ever :)
Got really into it around Team Rocket .. My allowance a week at the time was 5 bucks .. i remember every friday running down to 7 eleven to get a pack .. i still get a spark of nostalgia every time i walk into one
Vault spitting FACTS! I sold all three WOTC sets in 2012 for 60 bucks. 1st edition NM Charizard was 150 bucks and mine was well loved…the set was worth nothing. Guy who bought my cards in 2012…hope you made 3-5k.
I remember buying my first pack when I was 10 which wasn’t that long ago . It’s only 10 years ago lol, but the thing was that my parents would only buy me a single pack like once in blue moon and now it’s 10 years later and I’ve finally got some ones of my own so I got back into the hobby about a few months ago and it brings me so much joy
As a kid I collected base set, jungle, fossil etc until I grew out of it unfortunately .. but restarted my collecting 2022 and been very active since 😊
I entered the hobby in the 90s and stopped for long time till my son started to show an interest in my old cards. so we got back to the hobby in 2022.
I started the hobby back in 99 and my mom made me give my binder to my cousins, well you know what happened they got destroyed gone for ever. I just restarted the hobby in 2023 with obsidian flames. 🔥
90's kid so collecting started at primary school with base set! 🔥
Sadly I'm too old to have grown up with Pokemon, it came when I was in college. But my kids got me into it a few years ago and sometimes I think i love Pokemon more than them!
Been in and out of the hobby a couple times. Was a baseball card collector in the late 80’s through the 90’s. Got into Pokémon when the baseball card market was in shambles. Collected base set through around the middle of the Ex era. Got out for a while then jumped back in around HGSS and got back out again around B&W. Started collecting again around September 2023 and sold off all my vintage to get into modern sets. Mostly collecting XY though current now days.
Just recently entered the hobby at the start of this year, so slowly building up my collection!
I got into the hobby was I was a kid 90's kid but recently got back into it from these videos - ctr - rev etc
I started as a kid, buying base set packs for $3 a pop. The card shop was right by my weekly piano lessons, so every once in a while I’d beg my parents to get a pack for me. Good times 🙂
I started during the sword and shield era. My favorite era by FAR. Thank you Pokevault for another great video.
GREAT PULLS TOO!
I started collecting with my cousin as a kid and we still collect together now all these years later!
entered the hobby in 1998 at 10 years old, collected righ up until it got really good in 2002 (thanks high school) and got back into it again in 2021. wish i had stuck around to see when neo/EX era packs were still 4.99 at the LGS 😭😭
I am just recently getting into the hobby so I can spend time with my 10 year old daughter doing something she enjoys. I am also finding I enjoy it, good memories!
Nice hits! I got into the hobby early this year is February.
entered the hobby back when it all kicked off (base set/jungle/fossil). sold my cards for nickels at a garage sale back in the day. now wishing i could have em all back!!!
2010 on and off kids got me opening and collecting more since 2019 it’s been fun I miss old prices that’s for sure
Only started opening after the pandemic bubble and everything is still more expensive than what it was back in the day but I think the oversaturation is good for the hobby overall
i entered the hobby recently in May 2023 so I am coming across a year of consistent uploading. But I did have a brief interest back in 2014 and remember the $40 mint Charizards. I also bought a $3.8K first ed psa 10 charizard in 2014 (yes i sold it back then lol)
I never collected as a kid though I played the games I was never introduced into the tcg. Got into collecting cards last year! Been a blast ever since!
I got back into the grind in 2022. Started when it originally released as a kid in 90s
I started when I was a kid with 1st edition on and sadly stopped and lost all those valuable cards. Started up again just recently but enjoying sharing the hobby with the kiddos.
Joined the hobby again last November. Have liked it since it first released back when I was a kid
I entered the hobby in 2016 and I have never seen a base set pack for 50$ The first maser set of mine were evolution❤
I entered the hobby when I was a kid then stopped around sophomore year of high school and then I picked it back up last year man did I miss out on a lot of great sets.
99 is when I started my adventure here. Big into the games as well. Always chasing that Charizard been my favorite since day one. Thankyou for the content sir.
Boom Bang!! love spending time in the vault!
arrived in the hobby during covid boom, never seen base set packs for this low, some of the box you opened during this video i remember buying and opening them back then, grat memories of the puills that came with them
