King of rats. I watched this film for the first time on Polish television in the early 1970s. Last time today 13. 06. 2021 on cable TVP Historia (Polish television). In the 70's I listened to this novel read on Polish radio (3rd channel on UKF). Memories ... The movie hasn't aged, and it never seems to get old. I have watched it several times and at different times. The reception is always the same. It's a work of cinematic art.
So many people have NOT seen this movie.. The only tragedy is that so many never will. They don't and can't make movies like this anymore. You cut the ending which is also sad. One of the key power struggles in the whole movie explained....
‘He Gave U Hate!’ Just watched this brilliant film on a channel called ‘GREAT!’(Movies/Action) Virgin Media..UK! It’s taken me 3hours to watch..what with pause/rewind and slow mode..Not forgetting fast forward through the occasional advert! Even Leonard Rossiters in it! The world resentful Lost George Segal(RIP)What A Tribute That Was..It Should Be Played On Our Main Tv Channels! John Mills Wasn’t even mentioned in the First Six Actors!(Cast) Great Film! x
@@ufconlyfamz69 this is not addressed to you but to the person who posted the original comment I am sick and so fucking tired of the they don't make movies like they used to Trope bullshit that is posted on every fucking RUclips comment about a movie more than 10 years old it is old tired and is just as bad if not worse than the very type of attitude that they claim is why good movies aren't made anymore
can you explain the power struggle thing for me i have read the book and seen movie and still struggle to understand this scene. is it basically that merlow thought they had a deep connection but the rat was just surviving and that it was their forced captivity rather than free will that created their relationship? thanks
Top four of my favorite George Segal movies (Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, Ship of Fools, A Touch of Class). The story of survival of the fittest in a Japanese POW camp. George Segal does an astonishing portrayal of Corporal Donald King, a wheeler and dealer who keeps every prisoner in camp in tow as he bribes, swindles and barters his way to staying alive until the end of the war. Extremely underrated film.
I just finished the book not 10 minutes ago as of writing. I'm gonna have to watch the film too. Looks to be really good though almost forgotten judging by the number of views on the clips on RUclips. I also got that book for 1€ at a flee market 2 months ago. Really glad I did. Some of the best stuff I read in years.
Watching it again I wondered how much of King's despair came from the fact that Richard Dawson's character said he was going to report corporal king to the American authorities. (otherwise it looks like King would do very well in the dog-eat-dog realities of the American free market after he was demobilized).
Oct. 1, 2021----Actually, don't think too much of anything would of happened to King Rat because he had dirt on so many people, including Dawson's character.

The character of Peter Marlowe is based on James Clavell's own WWII experience at Changi POW camp.
A Fantastic book,Fantastic actors & a Fantastic movie.... :)
I've read it few times and everytime is like a new book and i notice new things...love it! Both with Shogun, probably share my number one books!

Little did he know that once he'd escaped from the camp, he'd be running a fashion magazine and ordering David Spade around.
😆😂😂😂😅😆😁😀

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREAT MOVIES OF ALL TIME.... THE HUMAN CONDITION !,,,
Good book. Im looking for the full movie
I've never been a great chair-price guesser.
For a moment you almost think Marlowe was getting through to King.....
Oct. 1, 2021----Having read the book, always wondered how things turned out in life for King Rat after becoming a civilian.
Made a small fortune peddling used cars, retired in Vegas and lost it all on slots.

Muy buena pelicula.
Good movie.
How many of y'all recognize Tibbs from 101 Dalmatians..?
i gotta question why did king ingore him at the end and not say goodbye
That's because in Changi he was king, but out in the real world, he didn't know where he stood. He was afraid of the real world
@@carlbenjiman Thankyou Carl makes me understand the story better
