    Magnificent. This is one of those things I'd think of as too bloody nice to even use.

    Gorgeous. Thanks for reminding me, I really must sort out a new platen for my Bluebird. By the way where did you get that stand for your wera screwdrivers?

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  5 лет назад +1

      a new platen is a solid investment, and a huge quality of life upgrade - dooo eeeeet! my screwdriver stand is an antique forming anvil, seated on a metal plate by rare earth magnets - this keeps the drivers sorted by size, and also keeps the tips magnetized

    I have a wee question for ya! I just bought a Bluebird 18b (same as a Torpedo) and the platen is rock hard. Does recovering the platen give a big reduction in noise? As it is it’s way too noisy for me. Thanks!

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  5 лет назад +1

      markdbenson75 there will always be a bit of mechanical noise on a torpedo, but having fresh rubber on the platen makes a world of difference. Also, you should invest in a good felt typewriter pad, since a lot of the perceived noise from a machine actually comes from the surface it sits on; this is the one i use mytypewriter.com/newclassictypewriterpad.aspx

    Okay - super weird question. You can see at 0:24 in this video that the ribbon selector lever has three dots - three options - black, stencil, and red.... BUT the bottom selection area (the red) is blocked off by a piece of metal that has been welded to the underside of the selector area. I just bought a 1959 Torpedo 18B and it also has the capability (three gear slots underneath that correspond to the three dots) for three ribbon settings, but there's that damn piece of metal welded in there that only lets me choose black or stencil. ARGH! WHY? (I thought if anyone would know, it would be you.) This means I can only use the upper half of my all black ribbon, unless I flip it upside down to use the other half, which is just dang annoying. Care to enlighten?

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  4 года назад +1

      Mrs. Blennerhassit - that’s because on some cursive machines you only have those two options: stencil, or ribbon. the typeface is too tall to fit in one half of the ribbon, so they limit you to using a solid color instead of a two color ribbon; otherwise the tops of some letters or the bottoms of others would have inconsistent coloring due to overlapping on the other half of the ribbon.

      @@TypewriterJustice Thanks, CB - I was just about ready to go batshit with my Dremel. >8-{ Here's another question - Can I get more life out of my ribbon by turning the spools upside down when it gets used up on this side? Or am I screwed by that same "tall letters" issue again?

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  4 года назад

      Mrs. Blennerhassit - you absolutely can flip that sucker over! the other half might be slightly faded just from exposure, but it will still be an improvement over the worn out half and you’re not likely to notice the fade on the descenders.

      @@TypewriterJustice Thanks, man. Will do. Another thing I am a bit frustrated with is the ribbon reverse is not automatic on this Torpedo, and I have to keep taking the ribbon cover off to access the levers. It was sort of cute at first, but I type a lot, and the ribbon isn't half as long as I'd like it to be. I am tempted to tie strings to the levers and run them up out of the opening in the ribbon cover, so I can just pull on them to reverse the ribbon instead of having to fart around removing the cover every ten minutes. Tell me there's a secret lever that I just haven't discovered yet....

    I like your video showing the typewriters. However, ALMOST ALWAYS you never show the work. Please show your cleaning or repairs like the other you tubers do.Please do some videos showing how you work on them and making them look as good and functionable as you do. Your typewriters are stunning please show us your tools and shop.
