I'm so happy my Spurs got him. I haven't been this excited as a Spurs fan since 2014. I watched the draft with my little sister and she said "Think positive! He's going to your team" and when they announced that we won I went CRAZY. It gave me the feeling I got when I first became a Spurs fan watching them in the 2003 Playoffs at 9 years old. So far his 3 is meh (was in his league for example), but if he can create 'threat' on the perimeter his whole game can move forward especially with his good mid-range game and his easy little liftoff for lobs, passes, short roll (which in previous game where he ran the short roll into a lob he himself did!). The little liftoffs/jumps for dunks will increase his health on his legs too, with his height let alone the wingspan sheesh.

The thing I see with him is that he still plays like a kid. As he should at his age. Still has that creativity and is still learning the game at the pro level. He hasn’t found his niche yet. Is he gonna be a jump shooter only or is his post game gonna develop? Is he gonna play more off the ball? I don’t like the ball handling and trying to create at his own shot at his height which leads to a lot of those swipe turnovers we’ve seen with him by smaller guys. At the same kd of the day, the guard skills aren’t a necessity they are add on. He still needs to learn to play like a big man and master those skills first. When those jumpers aren’t falling and everything breaks down, what is his go to? That comes with time, and experience. Can’t wait to see how he develops.

I think the spurs should have a scouting report of players who play dirty and tell everything about them to Wemby. Literally just watch every starting 7-9 and find who are the most likely to maybe just put their feet under a player when they land from a jump shot, or might push a player when they jump. And just actively avoid them unless he needs to. I mean tbf, he can probably do all defending fine, but there’s potential for a random zaza type player to come stepping into his shot and bam, his ankle, and the connecting muscles, tendons, and ligaments are fucked.

The funny part of all this, as an European NBA enthusiast, is that he's playing exactly as he's always played and behaving with the collective spirit and competitiveness he's always shown. So far, I've seen absolutely no change. I've even seen people surprised by his defense. Defense is the main reason why analysts are confident that he belongs in the NBA even if his offense doesn't reach its full potential; he is going to be one of the best help-defender of all-time.
It look like some of you indulged in a lot of analysis, sometimes very negative, towards him without having bothered to watch even one game of his, and to be fair all the talk about him really resembles the highly critical remarks we saw regularly about Jokic until last May, which suddenly disappeared in June for some reason haha. I wouldnt be surprised if it was the same type of fans being highly critical about something they dont really know about.
Now we'll see what he's worth over a full season of real NBA, but yes, the potential is there and has always been there.

We're already seeing the Wemby effect in action. The Spurs and Heat were basically tied when Wemby checked out, but he was +13 on the night. The offense and defense came apart whenever he checked out, yet seems to already revolved around him when he checks back in.

Im Ngl I’m a spurs “fan” they’re my team and I’ll always support them but i hadn’t watched basketball for years before wemby got drafted. I’ve played basketball all my life, love the sport, just don’t watch it that much. But seeing wemby is electrifying, makes me wanna watch him play. But even tho they’re my team I stopped watching after he stopped playing in the third quarter so I 100% agree with what he said about watching basketball for the stars and not the teams

I think the fair expectation for wemby should be he should be a leading man/ or in a 1a/1b type of role for a championship team, as well as be a multi-time all-star/all-nba. DOES NOT necessarily have to be immediately done now or in the next three yrs, but throughout his career is the span. What we see more is potential for wemby if he grows, get stronger, adapts to the NBA, and gets rid of his "easy exhaustion" deficiency. If so, sky is the limit for him. We expect him to get better, not stay the same, or stay mid, cuz that's not what hyped #1 picks are expected to do. But the bar is higher for him, and should be just below Lebron's expectations of being at least a multi-time champion/perrenial all-nba, all-star, etc. Being just at least a one-time champion as either a first or second option should be the fair expectation of him, given that the league is mainly guard-driven. In other words, just pass embiid's success in the postseason and acc make the finals, and we can truly say he has at least lived up to the hype.

People forgot that Wemby was MVP, top scorer/rebound/block on the first division of basketball french’s league, he was ready for the league even before his draft. Obviously he is not gonna a top 10 in the league first years but i think his maturity is a big advantage next to other college players.

I think the interesting thing about Wemby is that he has a very "Lebron" approach to everything. He's very mature, calculated, he knew where he wanted to be and got it, very coachable and his desire to improve is huge. Most guys who enter with a ton of hype don't have that level of maturity till later (we still waiting on Zion to do it), that's what made Lebron different, and will make Wemby different

I would've been disappointed years ago when I saw Chelsea vs ac Milan in Baltimore, but everyone played. A friendly, non league game. Lampard, Drogba, Ibrahimovich, and Ronaldinho all played. As a mainly football fan, imo the difference is that these footballers actively want to play the sport. Id have been just as gutted that day if Lampard didn't play, it's the same concept. Footballers just take things more seriously bc they're mostly grown men who have played the sport bc of passion for the sport their whole lives. Americans are so pampered I can see why basketball players don't do the same. Makes sense
