I'm so glad they created the romantasy category, it was clogging the fantasy category for the last few years and now someone other than Maas/Yarros/Armentrout has a chance to win
I was noticing that a lot of people who don't recognize books from the new romantasy category also don't read much from Kindle Unlimited (and that's where most of those are from) lol
I'll say it as many times as necessary: eschewing poetry, middle grade/children's, and graphic novels but adding romantasy is utterly disgusting. I'm a big fan of middle grade literature in particular, and several authors I respect and whose works I love that could have been valid this year aren't available to even be seen by the general public because of this. I feel middle grade books tend to get overlooked but a good story is a good story IMO and often middle grade does a great job of doing what it sets out to do. I'm so frustrated.......but I'd love to see you do a reading vlog of any of these categories so slay queen!
The Bandit Queens is definitely one of my favourite books this year! I’ve been seeing it shelved as mystery/thriller but I don’t think it fits that category very well. If you enjoyed the satirical elements of Yellowface and Big Swiss I think you’d really like it!
Omg that horror category is STACKED! I would be interested to see what you think of some of those, and your thoughts on the fiction section too! And I completely agree, seeing a Palestinian author be uplifted at this time is very exciting 🇵🇸🍉💚❤️🖤
It’s definitely nominated in the wrong category! I think it’s more fiction than mystery! The mystery kind of progresses the plot but it was such an amazing family drama and the conversations around non traditional forms of communication were mind blowing!
A reading vlog of the Romantasy books would be fun to see! The only one I've read is "Serpent & the Wings of Night" which was a pretty solid and entertaining read. I haven't read the second one yet "Ashes & the Star Cursed King", but I'll probably pick it up soon to finish the story.
Chain Gang All-stars is the best book I’ve read this year. It’s absolutely stunning and a powerful narrative for prison abolition. I read the book, but I’ve heard really good things about the audiobook too! I also loved Family Meal in the fiction category! Very beautiful book that focuses on three queer characters. Heart-breaking moments of sadness and joy.
I loved Hello Beautiful (fiction), The Wishing Game (debut), Assistant to the Villain (romantasy), and Starter Villain which I think is under sci-fi. I would love to see your reading vlogs about the award books.
I also definitely think you should pick up the Once Upon a Broken Heart Trilogy, & Divine Rivals if you haven't already! The writing style of both is quite beautiful
Okay okay! This is the first time in the few years that I’ve used Goodreads where I recognized a good portion of the books nominated! Of all the categories, I think Fiction aligns with my interests the most so I would love to see what you thought of the books you nabbed from that list. But, I do want to recommend one book! In the Lives of Puppets absolutely tore me apart. It’s not as heart-warming as Cerulean Sea or as complex as Whispering Door, but I loved it just the same. Highly, highly recommend!
We have very similar book taste and I highly recommend you read Miracle Creek! I think you may really enjoy it! One of my favorite books of the year putting Angie Kim as a possible favorite author! Haven’t read Happiness Falls but I have a feeling I’d really enjoy it
Happiness Falls by Angie Kim was so good! It is for sure one of my favourites this year. It’s also definitely more fiction than mystery (it’s kind of a Never Let Me Go Celeste Ng sort of family drama with a bit of mystery).
Speaking from personal preference I'd love to hear more about the science fiction nominees But from an entertainment and surprise perspective, hearing about you reading from the "humor" genre might be fun
Something I wish they would do is add graphic novel category. It kind of made me angry they did romantasy but nothing for graphic novel/comics. Also middle grade category and a poetry one.
Chain Gang Allstars I’d call REALISTIC sci-fi… the only sci - fi aspect I can recall is some of the equipment/technology used and it’s nothing crazy, but plausible for near future if that makes sense. Blahdiggityblah, I really liked it regardless of how they categorize it.
I feel like I want to read all of the historical fiction books since I own a few already. Then YA and YA sci-fi fantasy! I want to read They Called Us Exceptional!!
I’m caught up with reading the truly devious series, and the fourth one is definitely my favorite so far. I really liked the fifth one, but she did something right at the end of the book that I don’t enjoy.
It's the 1st year I know almost every book in romance and ya and all the books in romantasy which is wild that they they added this as a category ✨️ it will be hard to vote since alot if Tye books I read and enjoyed r in the same category 🫣
I loved the bandit queens! i was so upset it wasn't in the fiction category because i also really liked one summer in savannah and was upset i could only vote for one of them in debut when most other categories there was none i felt strongly about 😆 also i read a bit of romance and was very disappointed that the category was so white and straight this year, although i did really enjoy hello stranger it was such a good concept for a romance
I thought I read romantasy, but I don’t recognize any of those! There are some good selections in Fantasy and Debut Novel. I have THE JASAD HEIR and I’m thrilled that it’s written by an Egyptian author as I am part Egyptian, but I haven’t read it yet. I loved STERLING HOUSE and THE UNMAKING OF JUNE FARROW. I’ve also been reading more horror lately, so I was glad to recognize several of them! For the YA SFF section, DELICIOUS MONSTERS by Liselle Sambury is actually NOT fantasy! It’s YA horror/thriller. I’m really confused why it’s in the fantasy section here, although I’m glad it’s been nominated. Liselle is a Trinidadian-Canadian author who runs an AuthorTube channel here. I definitely would recommend DELICIOUS MONSTERS! I also have SPICE ROAD and HOUSE OF MARIONNE as ebooks, but I haven’t read them yet! I loved LOVE, THEORETICALLY and VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE as well, among many others.
For fantasy Hell Bent has the best numbers, to be honest I don't think that Fragile Thread of Power has a chance since it came out recently and it's the first book of a sequel series, so it's less widely read
I'm disappointed that they replaced the poetry and middle grade categories, they could've added romantasy without removing the others
Omg I didn't even realize that! Agreed, that's upsetting
Also Graphic novels and cooking books (that one I get)
agreed
No more Picture Books, no more Middle Grade, no more Poetry, no more Graphic Novels, but Humor can stay????? 👁👄👁
It's definitely dumb 😩😩😩
I'm so glad they created the romantasy category, it was clogging the fantasy category for the last few years and now someone other than Maas/Yarros/Armentrout has a chance to win
The whole romantasy category has only one cover designer lmaoo
😂😂😂
Assistant to the villain was the only one that looked different
I was noticing that a lot of people who don't recognize books from the new romantasy category also don't read much from Kindle Unlimited (and that's where most of those are from) lol
oh that makes sense!
I'll say it as many times as necessary: eschewing poetry, middle grade/children's, and graphic novels but adding romantasy is utterly disgusting. big agree!!

Bandit Queens was def not mystery lml
Debut novel would be fun for a vlog since you have such varied reading taste. Fingers crossed that Bandit Queens would be one of the picks.
I love everything by Abby Jimenez, including Yours Truly.
yesss i loved yours trulyy❤❤
Me too!
Omg that horror category is STACKED! I would be interested to see what you think of some of those, and your thoughts on the fiction section too!
And I completely agree, seeing a Palestinian author be uplifted at this time is very exciting 🇵🇸🍉💚❤️🖤
I don’t really eff w mystery thrillers but loved Happiness Falls- wasn’t anything like what I’ve come to expect of that genre
ooo interesting
It’s definitely nominated in the wrong category! I think it’s more fiction than mystery! The mystery kind of progresses the plot but it was such an amazing family drama and the conversations around non traditional forms of communication were mind blowing!
I want to read Cobalt Red soon. I have been interested in learning more about the genocide going on in Congo.
I think it’d be interesting to do a reading vlog on the Debut category.

So annoyed that they created an entire category just for Fourth Wing which was the worst book I’ve read all year 😢😢
If you want to try the romance genre you should give the Seven Year Slip a try, it was an amazing book in my opinion
I would LOVE to see you do a romantasy vlog! Check out Fourth Wing and the Carissa Broadbent books. The Jasad Heir seems interesting too.
They Called Us Exceptional by Prachi Gupta was heartbreaking. Definitely worth a read.
i feel like it’s so much more interesting this year bc there’s no coho or SJM!!! 🫣
100%%%!!!
The Bandit Queens is so good.
I also definitely think you should pick up the Once Upon a Broken Heart Trilogy, & Divine Rivals if you haven't already! The writing style of both is quite beautiful

the romance category is so straight my word!
AGREEEED!!! 🚨
And white!
@jaja231 i feel like it's sooo white across all categories :/ booktok's influence i fear
Happiness Falls by Angie Kim was so good! It is for sure one of my favourites this year. It’s also definitely more fiction than mystery (it’s kind of a Never Let Me Go Celeste Ng sort of family drama with a bit of mystery).
OMFG if you did a reading vlog of all the Romantasy books that would be so f*cking chaotic 👁👄👁
I haven’t finished Chain of Thorns either, started it when it came out but only got halfway through. I need to finish that before the year ends.
Speaking from personal preference I'd love to hear more about the science fiction nominees
But from an entertainment and surprise perspective, hearing about you reading from the "humor" genre might be fun

Agreed for sure!

Poverty, by America is a life changing book!!! I recommend it to everyone I know.
Children of Memory is pretty good but you gotta read the first two books before it
I’m caught up with reading the truly devious series, and the fourth one is definitely my favorite so far. I really liked the fifth one, but she did something right at the end of the book that I don’t enjoy.
I really enjoyed hellbent and stone blind by natalie hayes definitely will be checking out her other books
Also, Leslie F*cking Jones (from the humour category) is also a memoir. The audiobook is a great time. Strongly recommend.
12 Dancing Princess is both Barbie movie and the Grimm Fairy Tale
Ohhh nooo, they kicked graphic novels out 😭 I don't read romantasy, so this feels like a bad trade
DEFINITELY a bad trade imo 😭
Mamee was pretty good in my opinion and Bandit Queens was funny
It's the 1st year I know almost every book in romance and ya and all the books in romantasy which is wild that they they added this as a category ✨️ it will be hard to vote since alot if Tye books I read and enjoyed r in the same category 🫣
The 4th Truly Devious is WAY better than the 5th, imho
You HAVE to read Anderson Cooper’s books on the Astors and Vanderbilts.
You should definitely read Looking for Jane (historical fiction category)!! It's such an amazing book ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I thought I read romantasy, but I don’t recognize any of those! There are some good selections in Fantasy and Debut Novel. I loved LOVE, THEORETICALLY and VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE as well, among many others.
Evil Eye - loved A Man Is No Woman - so chose that for September (?) BOTM club.
2:15 The World Record Book of Racist Stories is also quite good!
You should definitely try David Mitchell’s ‘Unruly’. He’ll leave you in splits.
For fantasy Hell Bent has the best numbers, to be honest I don't think that Fragile Thread of Power has a chance since it came out recently and it's the first book of a sequel series, so it's less widely read
The Art Thief
4:23 It’s not just a butt of jokes
i really liked None of This is True if you end up doing a mystery / thriller reading vlog 😊
yellow face with probably win fiction
Idk Roxanne Gay had a new one out either…
Booker Prize and Goodreads Choice Award in 1 month? Booktubers Gone Wild.
19:49 They need graphic designers.
I Vote for you to do romantasy im so curious about so many of them 👀
I’m still so surprised they took out some of the categories 🥹
i'm so baffled that I didn't notice in my initial reaction but i definitely agree that it's not good 😭
