Eg the new AT-TE is definitely better than the Clone Wars era AT-TE, but the CW AT-TE was a £70 set and the new AT-TE is a £120 set. That comparatively low price point made the brand a lot more accessible to kids and as a result was able to generate a ton of nostalgia.

Army building is so dang fun when it happens organically. And by organically I mean only getting new sets that come out mixed with older ones that I don’t have, maybe a second battle pack but that’s it. I have now a whole squad of regular storm troopers for the first time with all the same helmet mold and it looks fantastic. Not the type of person who cares to have a whole entire army just a decent representation of the army itself and you need at least more than 16 for that. Nonetheless I’ve had a blast with the newer waves and collecting older sets as I have seen my mandalorians, storm troopers, and clone troopers all increase in quantity and its soooo fun sorting them all and seeing how many I have and which sets they came from

If it bothers people that much that Lego, the company that actually makes the toys, remakes valuable figures in order to - shocker - sell more toys, then they need to get a grip on reality. Lego couldn’t care less about the secondhand value of a figure, nor should they.

The problem with Lego Star wars is that between 2009 and 2014, lego sold insane amounts of Star Wars sets, because the sets were actually very good and (for lego standards) fairly valued. Soon after though, Lego started noticing they didn't actually need to make good Star Wars sets to sell a lot. Additionally, they noticed that people would pay A LOT for Star Wars, so they just started raising prices through the roof for no reason. It's never gonna go back because even though the actual fans are buying it less and less, now scalpers and "investors" run all over it. There's absolutely no reason for Lego to increase Quality as, if they've proven one thing in the past ten years, the company does not give a flying fuck for fans and regular customers.

theres just too many factors to judge, youve got 1 set figures, exclusive figs, old figs, misprints, swapouts, new shows about characters. even factors like a figure being in a shit set, because noone buys it so they become incredibly limited in quantity, famous characters, even lego games have impact people wanna get the version thats in the game they played for nostalgia, likelihood of remakes (paz vizsla is a good recent example of that one), theres just soooooo much that goes into it that makes judging the future values ridiculously hard even characters deaths push up their prices and unique prints and molds aswell

I agree you never know for sure if a minifigure will hold its value based on the set if its remade in a cheaper or set or not, I could have bought Queen Amidala originally and if i sold it today I would have profited more money than I bought her for, but back then I wasn't thinking about that. There always is a roll of a dice with this stuff if you're only looking to profit, but overall I think if you have been in this industry years, and you have a good knowledge of what's exclusive and valuable and what isn't and you buy a new set with a new fig and don't open it for 2 plus years overall the value goes up.
I grew up with Lego Star wars it holds a deep place in my heart and I know it does to many other people too. But if you take an honest look at it from an economical pov you realize there is more money in investing in this hobby than any other toy or even stock for that matter. The value 99% of the time only goes up, the only hard part to this sport is, buy new exclusive set, don't open it for 2+ years, find a buyer.

Does that mean all these mini-figs simply were departed from its original set? if so wouldn't it be more logical for the owner of those sets to re-sell them as a complete set? I can imagine pulling mini figs out selling them individually will give you a higher return right? If so people can simply buy complete sets at a "cheaper" but inflated retail rate and simply sell the mini figs and the rest of the set can be scrap as parts.

y'all really have a problem with separating your emotions from basic understanding of economics. Lemme lay it simple for you : adults with money are ready to pay more than retail price for a good (Demand) that is no longer produced (Supply). Demand > supply ? price increase.
Doesnt matter if its a kid's toy, dirt or luxury watch a good is a good.

Ill be 100% honest, as someone thats been a lifelong lego fan since his childhood, I absolutely hate and despise this rise in the "lego is an investment" culture, its just so unbelievably toxic, and Im really glad that lego is slowly moving away from including figures of iconic characters in UCS sets that are worth hundreds of dollars, and its also hilarious to see all these resellers absolutely sh1t and p1ss their pants over UCS minifigs not being exclusive, its just so satisfying and is definitely the step in the right direction by lego
