Hey, super useful video. One question, once it’s all setup and CarPlay or Android Auto is setup, how long from turning the key on a cold start until it’s connected to the phone and the CarPlay/AndroidAuto UI is pulled up?
Thanks! It depends. You can turn on fast boot which helps and I find if you phone is unlocked it pairs faster. Not sure though…maybe 5-10 seconds? Most apple CarPlay is kind of slow since there is a pairing process
Great video. I've had mine for about 3 months and couldn't figure out what I did wrong with getting the Toyota USB to talk to the head unit. I'll definitely be re-doing my wiring using this video soon. Sometimes I have issue with wireless apple car play, have you tested this head unit with wired carplay?
I have found that I only connect through bluetooth and let the headunit figure out the rest. Make sure the software is up to date and then connect to the bluetooth and let the app connect you to the carplay setup. That works 99% of the time for me and then the wifi doesn't block data usage which is kind of essential for most carplay features. Once and a while it seems to get caught up where it will never correct but if I restart the car it works great. Some people mention this is a flaw with android units but I have also heard stories of these things happening with stock headunit that support apple carplay so sometimes I wonder if apple carplay just has bugs on occasion.
Great video I am very interested in this unit for my 4runner 2011 premium with no navigation simple radio and cd player, back up camera is display in rear view mirror. I am just trying to figure out if this unit will work in my 4runner before I purchase it. I will appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks Please guide me I want this for sure.
This is a super helpful video, so thank you! My issue is that when I put it in reverse, i get a yellow diamond with an exclamation point on the headunit, and everything stops. Looks like there's probably a missed connection somewhere or a missing ballast potentially. any suggestions for a fix for this?
Hey man! Great video. Question: I have a 2013 4Runner SR5 with a basic factory head unit. I was wondering if I buy this Dasaita head unit, will I be able to buy an aftermarket rear view and/or front view camera as well (like in your video) and connect it to the head unit? My car does not currently have any rearview camera. I wanted to buy it separately and connect it to the Dasaita head unit if possible. Would that work? If so, do you have a suggestion for an aftermarket rearview camera?
That seems like it would work fine! I think that investing in a decent camera is probably good idea at least for the back up camera. Mine is ok for the front but I kind of regret not spending more on a nicer model. Make sure to still reach out to Dasaita because you need a special wiring harness for yours since its 2010-2013. If I had to guess though, it should work for you! If I remember correctly, basically the headunit comes with a harness that converts the stock headunit connection for a back up camera into a yellow RCA plug. Since you do not have a back up camera, instead of plugging in the factory harness adapter you would just plug in a 3rd party camera. That would be my guess but again probably good to also check in with Dasaita customer service. I have found their website email is best rather than some of the others for other stores.
Hey bro for cameras check out NextBase cameras. I picked mine up at Walmart for 140. This set up is a bit different. The front facing camera also has an optional rear facing camera that attaches to the front facing camera. So both the rear facing and back facing are together. The two cameras are seperate so if you prefer you can unhook the rear facing one and put it in the back. Or you can just by the front facing camera by itself...it's a unique setup that work for me (but I all ready have a rear view camera i.e. 2015 sr5) NextBase is out of the UK
Great video! How has it held up a year later? I’ve heard they start off great, then bugs start to appear after a few months. Has this been your experience?
Thanks OE for your responses to my previous inquires...sorry about that repeat question I did not think it got posted...so I am still confused about to what you connected the USB thingy coming out of the head unit to the what wire coming from the 4runner? I might have missed it but I watched it several times and can't figure it out.
Hopefully you have the adapter but there will be a plug coming out of the factory wire harnesses that should plug into a single adapter harness that will create a stock harness to male usb conversion. Then you will plug that into the usb port coming from the wire connected to the Dasaita. Message me on instagram with pictures if it is still confusing and I can try to help. What year 4Runner do you have?
@@OverlandEngineer I have a 2015 sr5 premium and I do have the adapter so i am going to pull the dasaita out later today to put in front cam I will prob hit you up then if ur available..also I saw your vid on the grenade. Hi. It's been a couple of years now since you uploaded this video. My question: How is the unit working after 2 years? Are there any problems, large or small, that you've seen w/ the unit since installation? Great video, btw.
You can just use a usb port from the included adapters. The adapters add 3 extra usb ports and you only need one for the vehicle information. Hope that helps!
I bought the same video. Plugged everything I thought needed to be plugged in. Seemed like everything but the back up camera worked. Unplugged everything and reinstalled it only to have the am/fm radio in shuffle mode and beeping nonstop.... not sure why. After seeing this video I’ll unplug the camera connection you said to do and see if that works. Why would the radio shuffle be stuck on and how do you think I get t to stop?
When those sorts of things happen it makes me think you have the wrong software or adapters for the stock stuff…it may be worth asking support if you need something extra for your year. That is bizarre
Quality with attached mic seems fine but there is some sort of background noise reduction mode I need to change because it gets my voice mixed up with other noise and makes it hard to answer phone calls driving quite fast with Mud terrains haha. I used the attached mic but it probably would work fine with the stock one. I am not sure how the harness adapters interface with the factory mic.
@@Hockey21200 No I completely forgot about looking into this more. I did do a quick scan through the settings and did not see anything but I need to spend some more time on it. Right now I just use speaker phone...
I was thinking about just hooking both front facing cameras up to the same hook up coming out of the dasaita unit and like throwing a switch in there in order to switch between the 2 cams.. but idk if this is best way to go about it
Also you said something briefly about the USB hook up for monitoring door open etc...can you tell me a bit more about this. I don't believe I hooked that up... thank you
Haha I responded to your other comment about doing this. I would probably not bother attaching the dashcam but you can do whatever obviously! The usb hookup is an adapter from a OEM harness to connect to the headunit. It’s covered somewhere in the video. I think the adapter was gray. Hopefully that helps.
that little plastic piece at 22:17 is a huge mystery. Toyota cant seem to give me a part number. If you ever take it apart, I would love to have the part number. Mine is missing in my 2019.

Great video, two questions: the file MCU link seems broken. Is there another location for this file? The other is the screen so bright at night, and there doesn’t appear to have a dimming feature for nighttime. I see night mood; however, it doesn’t adjust the screen. Is anyone having the same issue?
As for a night mode that’s not too bright, I just typically use apple car play which seems to dim at night. Not sure though about the main headunit software. I’m sure there is something
I see a lot of people recommending these but with the bugs and what seems like no real support or warranty I don’t think I would go this route. I’ve heard a few people that had dead units after a couple months and they could not get a replacement or money back.
Yeah it happens but at this price compared to some other companies with similar track records, at least you could try twice? Haha. I know like 50-100 people that have been satisfied. Maybe just go through Amazon for some extra customer protection worst case?
If you are using Android auto only you shouldn't need that gps antenna correct? Not really a fan of having to add things that the vehicle is already wired for ie mic, antenna, etc.
I suppose not. If the vehicle systems installed don’t interface well with the headunit, I think that is maybe why they include additional things to install. I presume if only using android auto you will just want to make sure WiFi/Bluetooth antenna is connected and potentially microphone. My microphone has been doing a weird background noise subtraction or something so I have to look into that. Why are you so against it?

Reaching out to see if you have any idea what I could do to get my sound back? Dasaita help desk hasn’t been able to fix my issue. Thanks much.
Did you get the adapters from them for the 2010-2013?
@@OverlandEngineer Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I sure did, Dasaita sent me the harness specific to the 10-13 model (though they also sent me what must be the other years’ harness as well). Worked fine until a couple nights ago, woke up and had no sound from the radio or CarPlay.
@@Gnargoyle811 That is so bizarre. It just seems like a harness is not getting connection to the speakers if you ask me...Was it not quite plugged in all the way?
Did someone put it in for 2012 4runner? I have a white connector on bot head unit and car that I cannot connect and rear camera is not connected that way. It looks like some harness is missing
Hey great video..just updated the mcu but I didn’t solve my issue with me rear speaker does not sound as powerful as my front speakers !! Any way to fix that ?? Maybe original head unit comes with some soft of amplifier for the rear 4 speakers ? Help me sos
You may need to check out the EQ and Digital Amp settings. Changing the gain on certain areas really helped me.
I have everything installed but can’t get my iPod to play and I get yellow triangles on the screens when I use the mode button to scroll through.
Really curious how hard it would be to remove the screen and unit from the housing as to be able to paint match the trim.
Hmm, never thought about it haha.
Quick question: do you have to actually take off the center plastic console (the one with the cupholders around the shifter)? Is that just to route the microphone wire? I get nervous since those plastic clips only have so many snaps in 'em.
I can’t seem to connect the Dasaita 10.25” on to my 2017 4runner limited , some of the harness connections don’t seem to match
Can u please help recommend a professional to knock this off , near Dallas Fort-worth area tx
Is this company with 2019 Limited trim? Do you experience any humming noise when vehicle is in motion?
Do you know if this works with the JBL on the limited
Very informative video, I know nothing about these things but will be installing it on my own.I have a sub in my 4runner, anything I need to know to get it hooked up to the Dasaita head unit ? Thanks in advance.
Not really sure but I think there is a dedicated sub port
@@OverlandEngineer Thanks, guess it's trial and error until it works or it catches on fire 😂.
Do I have to add the microphone? If I don’t will it just use the stock microphone the 4runner has?
Great video! Do you have a suggestion on programming the steering wheel? I know the head unit has a app that looks to allow customizing but the steering wheel programming app does not show any options and upon trying to key commands I’m unable to configure and/or get the steering wheel controls to operate. I’m curious if I have a suggestion. Thx you
I’m having the same issue
I'm having the same issue. Did you get this figured out? I was told you need to wire the key1 and key2 cables.
@@OverlandEngineer how/ where is fast boot...i was unaware that was an option. FYI I don't do apple thanks
@@mmengore5929 I think in the general settings. It is just a boot preference.
Thanks
Please guide me I want this for sure.
Dasaita says it’s compatible but your year requires some extra harnesses so reach out to their customer service and they will help you with that
@@OverlandEngineer Thanks
This is a super helpful video, so thank you! My issue is that when I put it in reverse, i get a yellow diamond with an exclamation point on the headunit, and everything stops. Looks like there's probably a missed connection somewhere or a missing ballast potentially. any suggestions for a fix for this?
You probably plugged the reverse camera into the wrong yellow jack. Doesn't have a camera input.
@@OverlandEngineerI’m having the same problem still confused on what to do please help🙏🏻
Mine occasionally doesn’t connect and I have to restart my car, other than that it works like a charm!
Does anyone know if the 2012 wiring harness is included now with it?
Quick question. Does the link to the mcu update take you the the latest one, or is that an old one?
Nice Job & Thank You! Quick question - are you able to turn on rear view camera while not in reverse?
Yeah you can using the front camera app!
@@OverlandEngineer Awesome thanks again!!! The videos you post are incredibly helpful!
@@justintackitt8529 thanks! I appreciate it!
Does it run android apps with other devices? Like fry a drone, OBD port Bluetooth device, games with controller?
Currently I am rocking the pedal comander do you think the grenade is better? My girlfriend Hannah and I gave you some props to those guys at grenade and they sent her a 100 dollar off promo code. They also said they were going to get your back also because we told them about your awesome vid about their product . I am just wondering do you think it is 200 (price after 100 promo code) dollars better than pedal commander? It is a lot sleeker with better command modes that's for sure
Is it called the grenade? I might be off on that. Currently the guys are doing a promo in AU to try before you buy for a few weeks for like 8 bucks but it's only popping off in AU
@@mango1554 the Throttle grenade? I am confused what you are asking sorry. No the throttle grenade is not attached to the USB adapter.
@@mango1554 Thanks! Yeah I love it. I have not had the pedal commander myself but I really love the throttle grenade. I am pretty sure with the $100 off that it is a great deal too compared to the other throttle controllers. I have not stopped using mine. The truck is so much more responsive. You do have to get used to it because the throttle is more touchy but I am now and its amazIng. I wouldn't go back. lost like 0.2 mpg but totally worth it to me. I always use intel typically or offroad+
Is there a discount code for the Dasaita unit?
Hi. It's been a couple of years now since you uploaded this video. My question: How is the unit working after 2 years? Are there any problems, large or small, that you've seen w/ the unit since installation? Great video, btw.
Thanks! Funny you should ask, someone commented this earlier today. Heres my update: ruclips.net/video/CFrqSFv5CpA/видео.html
How’s the AM/FM Radio Reception and Do you miss having the stock CD/DVD Player?
Don't miss the DVD player at all. The AM/FM is ok but not as good as the stock head unit.
42:09 my USB port near the car plug adapter doesn't work. Can you please explain what I need to do to help resolve that issue? Thanks for the video!
You can just use a usb port from the included adapters. The adapters add 3 extra usb ports and you only need one for the vehicle information. Hope that helps!
Does it have a rear view cam?
Link for front camera?
Do you still have a link and discount code for this unit by chance?
Is this Apple car play wired?
Do they offer a non wired CarPlay? I want CarPlay but I don’t want to have to plug it in.
Hi, my youtube plays sound but the video screen goes gray
Great video! Just ordered mine. Do you have to hook up a mic or will it use factory? How is the quality?
Quality with attached mic seems fine but there is some sort of background noise reduction mode I need to change because it gets my voice mixed up with other noise and makes it hard to answer phone calls driving quite fast with Mud terrains haha. I used the attached mic but it probably would work fine with the stock one. I am not sure how the harness adapters interface with the factory mic.
@@OverlandEngineer did you figure this noise reduction thing out? i am having a similar issue. just installed my headunit a few days ago
Did the front facing camera come with the unit? Or did you have to buy that separately?
No I bought it separately.
Can you use the factory Toyota fin as the antenna?
Sure can!
that little plastic piece at 22:17 is a huge mystery. Toyota cant seem to give me a part number. If you ever take it apart, I would love to have the part number. Mine is missing in my 2019.
Your video was great! My back up camera is a black screen? I was able to turn on the grid lines and steering guidelines. Just no camera? Any thoughts
Hmm…bizarre…do you get a yellow triangle then if you unplug the yellow plug?
I will take it back out today and look for it. Thank you
And yes, the exclamation yellow triangle is there
@@robwright6935 I’m having similar problem. Were you able to overcome the issue?
@@Amir-yn4qh actually took my time and reconnected, and everything works right now! Had to change a setting from left to right ( that was wierd) but all good now! Had it for a couple of months and I love it! Spotify and Google maps look and work great!
I notice everyone keeps saying Apple car play. Does it still work good for Android play or whatever its called lol?
Any idea on the security of the device?
Great video, two questions: the file MCU link seems broken. Is there another location for this file?
The other is the screen so bright at night, and there doesn’t appear to have a dimming feature for nighttime. I see night mood; however, it doesn’t adjust the screen. Is anyone having the same issue?
The link is working. Just had to use a different browser
As for a night mode that’s not too bright, I just typically use apple car play which seems to dim at night. Not sure though about the main headunit software. I’m sure there is something
Does it retain stock steering wheel controls and the OEM microphone for calls?
Yes to steering wheel, no to mic…
Hey Overland Engineer. Is there a way you can send me the file to update the headunit? The link in the video doesnt work for me for some reason
I am pretty sure it still works. Are you in the US?
I see a lot of people recommending these but with the bugs and what seems like no real support or warranty I don’t think I would go this route. I’ve heard a few people that had dead units after a couple months and they could not get a replacement or money back.
Yeah it happens but at this price compared to some other companies with similar track records, at least you could try twice? Haha. I know like 50-100 people that have been satisfied. Maybe just go through Amazon for some extra customer protection worst case?
Is this compatible with the 2021 4runner sr5? I like the screen better than the stock one
I think so? I’d reach out just to make sure the harnesses haven’t changed
