This is by far the best review of these interfaces. NI themselves couldn't even tell me how much the preamps gain is in these. Maybe I just got hold of a new agent lol. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great reviews.
I find most info you get from any company, is from a less knowledgeable sales angle, than technical expert. If you want to escalate to tech agent, they'll give you a number to call, with harder contact possibilities.
I have the previous generation Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6, which I purchased back in 2016. It has been flawless the entire time, sounds great and the stats are really good, but it seems relatively unknown as there appears to be little advertising.
I have watched around 8 different reviews on the Komplete Audio 2. This is the first one that actually mentions that the Outputs are TRS Balanced 1/4" Jacks. I could not find this info even on Native Instruments own demo and overview videos. They all just say 1/4" jacks. Thank you for the Komplete information.
Thanks for the great review Julian! 🐧 We uploaded our experience with the Komplete audio 6 today and referred to your video, you inspired us! 😏 Keep it going!
Indeed. Deciding if I should settle for this or stretch for the Motu M2. Currently the sense I get is that the headphone out isn't very powerful, and probably isn't very good in distortion or dynamic range either- based on this reply to a potential customer here support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360004520898-THE-NEW-KOMPLETE-AUDIO-2-Spec-Sheet-Please- I've visited the specs page and reread it multiple times but the specifications being asked for is clearly not listed. Gotta love the Julian!....he has such a smooth calm delivery....I'd love it if he just went berserk one day and smashed the studio up.....throwing AIs all over the place! But he won't!
Thank you for detailed explanation. I have KA6. It is good to know that it can handle SM7b without using fethed and it can power 250 ohm headphones, so all good. At first I was unsure if I need a new audio interface. After I got it running it solved many problems. My prvious audio interface built in to my bedal bord was great, but many programs and plugins run automatically through the wrong inputs, feeding back the same signal to the same inputs/output. That was annoying and getting Komplete Audio 6 solved all the problems, and now I have everything running and working 100%!
Very very detailed and informative! It would be a blast if you could do such a video about Latency and also Real Life Performance Latency, such as testing how many plugins can you load on your PC with the specs shared of course. Best regards and Danke schoen!
Julian, can you help me, which one should i choose between komplete audio 2 and Focusrite Scarlett 2i2? I'm mostly using it for my video recording and live streaming.
Best review as always ! Pls i ve made this comment again but as i m comparing in that field to add a small on i ve end on these or ESI Amber i1! so a review from you on that one would be perfect! cheers greetings
em a voice actor ,you well maintained your voice pitch till end congratulations, your review is good for this Native Instruments KOMPLETE AUDIO 1 & 2 .
I've had to replace my KA1 after 5 months of fairly regular use - the preamp on the In 1 channel died. Currently waiting to hear back from NI about any kind of support but as I need an interface for work I've had to just buy a replacement straight out - which is rather irritating to say the least.
I tested a KA2, and all seemed fine, but when I tried recording my Ultranova synthesizer, the KA2 kept reducing the long attack time of a pad sound I tried recording. I checked my settings, insert effects, retried in Audacity to use the interface in a simpler situation, I changed the input switch from "Line" to "Inst", and more, and no matter what, the KA2 kept compressing my Ultranova. I would not experience this issue recording or listening to my Ultranova through other equipment. It almost scared me into thinking something went wrong with my beloved synth because the attack time of the amp EG seemed to not work as it should until I discovered that the interface is causing the problem. You did not run into a similar issue? Would you know what can cause this?
Julian, not to take away from what's another awesome video of yours, but I can't express in words how much I'm hoping to see a thorough Rodecaster Pro review from you
I am thinking about getting the Komplete audio 2 instead of the Focusrite 2i2 3rd gen because of the lower latency. Is the Komplete audio 2 the lowest latency audio interface you have tested??
Hello, I have a real issue problem here with Komplete audio 1. I am using FL Studio 20, and while is my KA1 connected as Komplete asio drive sound from other applications like youtube, like mp3 or fb videos coming through the computer speakers and not my big JBL speakers, like from FL Studio. When i change the audio settings to FL ASIO drive, everything works perfecly well everytwhere. I tried everything. setup is correct.. I have no idea, where is the problem.. Any ideas? Thanks for help.
What about reducing latency for Midi and taking off some of the load from my CPU? How does Komplete 2 fare in that regard? Sorry for being a noob about this.
Yes, they are. You have two options to record a electric guitar. You could either put a mic in front of your guitar amp. This mic would then be connected to the mic input of the interface. Or you could directly plug in your guitar into the interface and set the switch to instrument input. Then you can use a virtual guitar amp with software.
So what's the deal with balanced/unbalanced outputs? As someone with no clue the word 'unbalanced' right away makes me think it's probably something to stay away from, but of course if any unbalanced line was absolute trash they wouldn't have out the unbalanced output on the interface in the first place. So what is it that. An unbalanced output will do? Will it negatively effect your audio quality?
You probably know by now, but in case anybody else stumbles across this video and has the same question: Unbalanced means negative is ground, so your cable only has two conductors - like regular hifi gear. Balanced connections have three conductors: positive, negative and ground. Balanced connections provide more robust shielding against electomagnetic interference, which is most important for long cable runs. So, in a home studio, if you only have a meter or two between interface and amp, unbalanced is usually fine. For long cable runs, especially in noisy environments, you usually want balanced connections.

Vielen Dank!
Great review, thank you. Can I ask if it’s possible to mute sound to my studio monitors and then just hear audio from my headphones like in monitor mode? It’s great for singers and can do this very easily from my Universal Audio Arrow. Thank you.

Hi Julian! Thank you for your work. I got a question for you: if I have a DBX286S preamp, do I still need to check for quality on those audio interfaces? or since i'm using the amps of the preamp, I could also buy something cheaper?
On the review of the Motu M2 you tested whether or not gain distorted the response curve, does gain affect the response curve on this model? (Otherwise awesome review! best there is!)
Amazing, but in my experiencia mi kompleteaudio (6mkii) has a lot of noise when I record my sm57. Hoy much dbs of gain has these interfaces? I thought the gain will no able to punch the sm7b.
Hi Julian, I hope you are doing fine. I have a question about this interface. I bought a Komplete Audio 2 several months ago. I have been using it only to listen to music, mixing and editing etc, but now that I wanted to start recording some electric guitars and bass I found out that the interface clips even with the level at mínimum, using the input in the corresponding “instrument” setting. The mix XLR input and the “Line” seting work normally. My old Tascam US-122L doesn’t have that problem. After researching a Little I read that this exact “low headroom” problem is present in certain Scarlett interfaces and it’s a design flaw. Do you know it this is the case with the Komplete Audio interfases, or do you think I got a bad one? Unfortunaly I can’t sent mine back anymore and the only workaround I have found is using and active DI with a pad beetween the guitar en the interfase, this way se signal level lis fine, but I’m afraid this extra step may degrade the guitar signal, I don’t think using a 20db pad on such a weak signl is a good idea. Thanks in advance.
i want to upgrade my scarlet solo mk2, should i get the komplete audio 1 or the Motu M2?, i only need 1 xlr slot btw, and my heaphones are the Sennheiser HD 650, all used for gaming?
Hi Julian, wonderful review could you suggest me if I should upgrade to KA2 upon my current Steinberg UR12 with Rode NT1A connected to Presonus eris 4.5 running with mac book pro. Only thing fascinating me in KA2 is mix knob instead of direct monitoring button.
Hey! i dont know if you still answer to comments os this video, but i would like to know, as someone not very into audio interfaces if this one is the best in its price range to use for casual microphone usage, guitar recording through a mic and most importantly to use with an amp sim. Thanks.
Hey Julian, I just bought the komplete audio 2. I only have a lot of trouble with usbhost.sys. This causes cracks and distortion in the sound. Can you tell me how you can fix and optimise windows 10 for this? I already tried power settings, irq, different ports, etc.... I think the issues occurs the most when switching between asio drivers and windows drivers (when i go from my Daw to Spotify for example) And might the Motu not have this problem and have better drivers? Thanks and love watching your reviews.
Do you guys think it's perfectly safe to run a Beta58 together with a condenser in the +48v phantom power mode since no individual switches? Will Phantom Power be applied if connecting with a TRS-XLR cable?
Thank you for a great review Julian. I was looking at these two last week. May I ask how is the headphone zero latency monitoring for voice over on the KA2? Is it loud enough as you recorded your narration? Thank you Julian :)
Hey, yes the zero latency works well on the KA2. If it is loud enough really depends on your headphones. If you use very easy to drive headphones the KA2 can provide ample volume.
Thanks Julian. Glad to know this has good volume on the monitoring. The headphone volume is an often overlooked part of most reviews. I'm staying away from a couple of interfaces which were said to have weak headphone preamps. It's pretty hard to record when I can't hear myself.

Latency comes from your cpu. If your cpu is good enough you can use low buffer size which reduces latency.
