    I would like to point out water hardness plays a part in performance. I've tried so many bars that work great in my home town - an hour way - with medium hardness. But they were awful in my city with hard water. I started using viori about 2 or 3 months ago and LOVE it (for context, I have mixed Asian and Latina hair, pretty thick, very straight) Idk how I missed that it's made made with sls, though. I'll definitely see if I can get my husband on board with the Rhyme and Reason. Thank you!

    • @aidanhuene9930
      @aidanhuene9930 2 года назад +6

      To preface, I've only just started using shampoo/conditioner bars and chose Viori's after looking up a bunch of different brands. I was a little underwhelmed with the Viori review, though I am glad she emphasized the ethical/sustainability points.
      I also do not see SLS in Viori's ingredients list online. The only thing I can think of why she listed it as containing SLS is because of Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate which when you look at the chemical structure does share the same sulfonic end, but is otherwise different than SLS. I haven't run into anything which specifically talks about the pros/cons of SCI; the only thing I've seen is that it may be better for certain people with sensitive skin? Either way, I don't think it's fair to review Viori as containing SLS without some sort of explanation since it's not specifically listed in their ingredients list and I haven't seen anything, or its not obvious, to equate SLS with SCI.
      Palm oil is also not in their ingredients list. They do list Rice Bran Oil, Broccoli Seed Oil, and Jojoba Oil. No clue if any of these come from or are classified as a palm oil, but I feel like these points would have been a pretty easy thing to email the company about to make the review clearer.
      With regard to the scent, Viori has 4 different scents with different patterns on them. If the pattern of the bars is consistent with what she showed in the video, she has one of the unscented bars, so no surprise there is no scent. I have tried both Citrus Yao and the Hidden Waterfall and have loved them both.
      With regard to lather, mine lathers really well, so I think you are right @incaamor that water hardness may affect its lathering performance.

      I use Viori and love it! I have thick wavy hair and most shampoo and conditioner bars I’ve tried just didn’t work for my hair type, made my hair feel super dry whereas Viori leaves my hair smooth. I agree with Shelby when using the shampoo bar by itself it does not provide much lather, but I found that if I use a shampoo brush, it lathers more. I definitely recommend trying it if you’re looking for a shampoo/conditioner bar. :)

      I wash shocked how much it lathered. I was also shocked how Shelbi seemed to minimize the ethics/mission of the company. I can’t believe she didn’t use the conditioner bar! It works so well!! I started using it because I heard it was helpful for people with hair loss which I was experiencing. Bonus for sustainability. My mom is a hairdresser so I have expectations for shampoo and conditioner and theses WORK. She must not have gotten the citrus scent, which is AMAZING. I've been using viori for around 6 months now and my hair is honestly the healthiest it's ever been, probably from the rice they use as the base ingredient. I love the ethics of the company too and the thought they put into all of their products. They have 4 different base scents (I think the one Shelbi used was the native essence unscented one) and if you are a scent person like me the hidden waterfall scent is like therapy in a bar, it's so calming and lovely. not a huge fan of their conditioner bars as they break me out, but I've found that just the shampoo bar works fine for me (and my hair has never been this soft in my life lol)

    Tip: Cut down your bar and only wet the part you use in your shower and keep the other parts dry and safe in your cupboard. This way, not the whole soap gets wet every time and you can keep it for years if you would like to. It is especially important because I have a bar that I used for almost a year.

    Something I'd be interested in learning more about is what all these certifications of brands and products mean, e.g., OKEO-tex, B corp certification, fair trade, etc. You seem well-versed on these labels since you reference them throughout videos, and I would love to see a video about what exactly all these labels mean, how they are DIFFERENT from others, and other labels that really do not mean too much. I had to purchase a new mattress size, so this week I was investigating mattresses, sheets, comforters, etc. and it took a lot of digging to figure out which companies' products were more sustainable and ethical by googling the differences between their certifications. I think having some reference guide on the major eco/health-friendly labels would be super helpful for situations where consumers need to buy a new product and really analyze what the company is saying it is doing for the planet!

    Thank you! I've been using Viori shampoo and conditioner for five months now and it's become my ride or die, I love it so much. I love the mission and community work that the brand does. As well as this was the first s/c bars that actually worked for me. I really love the ingredients and have improved the health of my hair. One correction I would like to say is that while the bar does contain gentle sulfates, they do not contain SLS. The rice water and protein have really improved my hair strength and color, while the aloe, cocoa and shea butter keeps it moisturized. Of course what worked for me won't work for everyone but this one is a good one to try plus it's really long lasting. I've had the same bar for five months and it's only about half way gone and I wash my hair either every other day to every three days. Good money saver.

    Rhyme and Reason is accessible in my low income neighborhood at Target and I don't have to travel too far for it. Which I think is great! The only problem is that a lot of people that are low-income don't buy sustainable products and because of the less demand, there are less zero waste items in stores. If I want my hair to smell like something, I add a moisturizing carrier oil with a few drops of an essential oil I like to my hair.

    I use the viori shampoo and conditioner bars. I love the mission, and I personally find it works wonderfully for my hair. I have fine thin wavy hair and it’s hard to find something that cleans the oiliness that always comes with fine thin hair but doesn’t strip my hair and make it frizzy by being too harsh. There are different scents that people can choose from and some are better for oily hair and some are for more normal hair. So I personally think people should give it a try if they are looking for a shampoo bar.

    When you showed the Chagrin packaging and it listed Neem in big letters I knew it was going to be smelly and I was not surprised that it made your hair oily. I use Neem as an organic pesticide on my plants and it makes my grow room smell so bad. When you use it as a pesticide it leaves a sticky oily film which is what you want for repelling insects, but you definitely wouldn't want it on anything you were going to pick and eat raw without a thorough wash. I'd be curious if that shampoo would help keep the bugs away on a camping trip though! 😂

    I have to agree with you on the Chagrin Valley shampoo bar. I think living in the Midwest, we tend to have harder water which doesn’t mix well with soap based shampoo bars. You can get some build up with a traditional soap and they’re usually extra moisturizing with all the oils from the saponification process. I’m sure a lot of people are familiar with soap scum, which is a chemical reaction between the soap and the minerals in hard water. I’d be curious to see what people thought who lived with soft water and used it.

Never in my life have I been able to dry brush my hair without straightening first because it would just make my hair frizzier. However, after using viori for a few months I’ve finally been able to dry brush my hair to my surprise. I'm currently using Chagrin Valley shampoo bars because I bought a bunch of little sample bars to try the different formulas and they are just lasting forever 😅 I hated them at first, but I tried doing an apple cider vinegar rinse (they have a dilution recipe on their site) and it helps SIGNIFICANTLY with heavy/waxy feeling. From what I could understand from internet research, Chagrin Valley is a "soap" (vs a "detergent") shampoo so something abt the pH of the bar and the pH of your scalp makes it stick to your hair, so you have to use ACV (or any low-pH vinegar I guess?) to balance it. With the ACV rinse I can go 3 or sometimes 4 days without washing my hair, and it's pretty soft! Just thought I'd put it out there for anyone who is struggling to use up Chagrin's very generously sized bars lol!

      It’s a saponified shampoo bar. Basically oil and lye mixed to make glycerin and soap. A lot of people don’t get on with those. The pH is high that’s what they suggest ACV rinses. A lot of bars now are formulated differently. Call SYNDET bars. Made with mild very surfactants (unless your LUSH )and other ingredients.
