For anyone that's just watching this, you DO NOT have to use a long extension, nor swivel for the front fuel filter. I used a regular 1/2 inch socket without an extension to do it. All you have to do is go from the driver side and go underneath the master cylinder and boom there you go (my hands are big too so lol). Only issue I had was when I did my oil filter my 1 gallon bad tore so when I tried to pull it out oil spilled on the frame lol 😂
I'm getting ready to graduate college as a petroleum engineer here in West Texas, and I bought a 2022 Bighorn Cummins earlier this year. This video has helped me out so much!! Thanks for the upload my guy!
Just did my own maintenance on my first diesel, 2021 2500, your video helped immensely and saved me money!
Great video!! I love the fact that u covered a complete filter service.
Good video!! However, there is a drain for the front fuel filter. It's the small yellow knob that you see. Give it a 1/4 turn and fuel will flow out a clear tube under the truck. I usually just prop a funnel under it and catch the fuel in a container. Not quite as messy.
Also in regards to priming the oil filter. I have the cummins ISB shop manuals and in both they recommend that you pre fill the oil filter prior to installing. I've actually done it both ways ( dry and filled ) and I can't really tell the difference myself. I believe it's more a matter of choice?
Yea i know i missed the drain on the front one haha. and like i said i have no evidence on the lifter situation thats just what i think.
It’s actually important to drain the front filter. When you pull out the old filter the unfiltered fuel is now contaminating the inside and outside of the new filter. This slows unfiltered fuel upstream and into the injectors!!
Keep up the videos! It's hard to find basic DIY videos. My 3500 is my first diesel and all the maintenance isn't easily broken down how to DIY. Thank you!
Easy! I’m on my second Ram Cummins.
These engines are very simplistic and straight forward.
Good video, just purchased a 21’ 2500 a week ago and will be doing my own maintenance looks easy enough. Great vid! 👌🏼
thanks bro i appreciate it
The 21 model has a front and rear drain on the fuel filter housing. Just a fyi
Lets go brandon, REALLY .
thank you so much for the tutorial man! It made changing my oil so easy!!!!
and thanks for the tip of not thrwing an empty oil filter in.
I bought a pac-brake oil filter relocation kit for my 5th gen. Much easier oil changes now. Also installed a FASS fuel filter system to make that easier as well. Good video, keep up the good work.
Did you put the pac-brake by the front bumper? Seen an instal for the 4th gen wondering if it’s the same.
Thanks for Video Bro, just got a quote for $900 to change oil and fuel filter change....I will spend $350 for parts.....I'm doing thus myself
That’s a rip off. My dealer offered $500 for oil and fuel filter, tire rotation and balance
Your damn socket drawer stresses me out. Lol. Great video
Let's GO Brandon! Thanks for the solid video.
I just did all the driveline fluids in my '19, what a difference in performance and fuel economy!!
How many miles??
@@WalkerTatBlackBearCDJR 25 000. After seeing the condition of the fluids in the diffs and transfer case, I should have done at 3000.
@@TheBeatenPathslmfaoooooo at 3k!!!😂😂😂😂 you got me wondering now……. I have a 2022 Cummins with 15k now you got me thinking about doing guilds early 😭😭😭
@@Conflicttalk13 All three items (2 diifs & transfer case). Looked like grey milk. Absolutely full of metal dust from the break-in process. The magnets on the drain plugs had so much on them they weren't collecting any more metal dust.
And from other, past experiences, I'm convinced the fluids they put in during building or on the assembly line aren't even the factory branded fluids we buy by the quart. They break down quick!!!
@@TheBeatenPaths
It’s crazy we can spend 70k+ on a base model 2500 and we get absolute shit, nothing is built like it used to be man, and with that much metal I know wtf I’m doing next weekend 🥹🥹🥹
Remember when you change your cabin air filter to always put 1-2 drops of Jasmine essential oils directly onto the filter.
I put a shopping plastic bag over the filter before tilting for removal and it works like a champ..i like doc diesel fast shipping especially up to alaska is where I'm from ☃️
That filter handle is awesome. I wish Cummins would put the filter down by the oil pan.
I actually like it there better, less messy. My Ford has it by the oil pan and for some reason, even if I drain all the oil I still get a lot when removing the oil filter. I changed the oil on my friend's Ram and after removing the oil filter, no oil leak at all, no mess. I'm guessing because it's all the way up and all the oil drains down and there is no more oil in the lines.
Informative and well presented. I like your LGB plate as well, and I hope Turbo had some play time when you finished up.
Awesome video and I love how you have your little helper with you! (your dog, haha)
I do construction at Cummins Diesel Dealer in Florida and I also have a Cummins 2020 Ram 2500. I’ve gotten to know the manager and a lot of their mechanics. Cummins does use Valvoline Blue. 15W-40 here in Central Florida works best
Online recommendation is 10w30 for 2019 and newer
That’s what I use, docs filters and valvoline oil
Do your research on Doc's filters - rebranded PTC and Premium Guard filters. Not even close to OEM quality!
Might want to do your research. Independent third party testing backed their claims
@@Ecozzy0123 - post them up!
@@klforrest573 It keeps deleting the link but just search docs diesel 3rd party test results. Should be first link
I’ve been wanting to try docs but I would like to see someone actually test these filters
I’ve used docs and it works great!!
Cool video. Also, your dog is awesome!
Nice video, fun, informative and nicely done
Pretty nice video Buddy !! really good explained !
Can you please provide the link to the small tool you used for the oil filter removal.
Thank you
Thank you for your video. Really helpful.
I love the video, but I learned the after market air filters threw the DEF codes on my 2019 Ram 2500. I hard the Fram ones are the biggest issue, but MOPAR redesigned the filter to not have glue on it a few years ago. It took me about 500.00 to learn this lesson so I thought if I could help others I would post. It took a while to DX the problem but the one mechanic told me it was my Fram Filter. I am not sure if the filter you used would throw any codes. Anyone else see this issue?
Thanks for all the info!
On the rear fuel filter, drain until it stops then back off fuel cap until lose, then use drain valve again until fuel stops.
The front filter has a clear tube just above the front axle. Get a tube to extend it out into a flat pan. Turn the yellow cap counterclockwise to drain. Back off cap to remove cap. Pull filter and let it rest in its container until the rest of the fuel drains in pan. Pull filter and turn off yellow drain valve clockwise. You did an efficient job leaving a fire Hazzard. Learn to think before you start or get your dog to do it, dogs are clean.
Doing it cold lets contaminants settle & remain in the engine.
Also theory on not filling filter & lifter noise is incorrect, there's been cases with very low mileage & original oil.
I'm doing 1st under 1,100 miles & sending it in for analysis so I have eary reference.
Did you get your results back?
I recently had an engine light come up and after taking it to the dealer as it was under warranty still, is was deduced that the engine light was the result of the air intake filter being an aftermarket one with those glue strips on the filter like the new one that you used. According to their "mopar checklist" is says that if the air filter has glue strips on it that it needs to be replaced with one without the strips. Let me know if you find any issues with the filters with the glue strips on them. I'm not convinced that was the issue for the engine light but since the service it has not come back on.
@@paladin5133 I’ve have not had any issues with docs filters.
I guess it was not time for the Crank Case Vent (CCV) filter change?
awwww turbo wanted to play
Great video! Thanks.
Great video thanks.
I tought you got the ducks around. 😂😂😂
I wish you had more light to actually see what you were doing.
Thanks for the video brother
What is the interval that you service the truck like this?
Good job thanks
Great video! Where can I send you some socket organizers? 😀
haha thats my dads shop tools. my personal tools are actually organized
The dealer only charges 400 to change those filters!!!
Thank you well done sir!
Good video 👍 what size are you’re wheels ? Did you lift ? If you did how much and what did you use ?
@@FrankieBates-wg1ic it was on 35x12.50 nittos and a 2.75 inch level from Stryker off road
There is a drain on the top fuel filter!
It’s the yellow nipple right below it! Or a tad on the side! Very hard to see!
Clean rig!
$777 Canadian at my local dealership for oil change & fuel filters.
Do you know how to change the other oil filter? There is a smaller one. I did it once the first time I changed my oil and I can’t remember where it is now. And I just drop my oil filter into aone gallon ziplock freezer bad zip it shut and pull it out no spills. Although I do wish I had that little tool. Don’t know where to find those.
Good looken mal’!
Great video. I love the Let’s Go Brandon plate 😂
Did you noticed a change in your oil pressure after the oil change?
no it was around 35 psi at idle and goes up to about 50 driving
@@JohnTravieso1 thanks you for your reply. I was just wondering because my stock 22 6.7 idles around 30 and goes up to 50 driving. This is my first Cummings and I just changed the oil to t6 5w40. I never pay attention to the oil pressure until now so I was a bit worried I some didn’t do something correctly after the oil changed. I also prefilled the oil filter. Anyways I appreciate your reply and your video. Keep up the good work

Coming from a ram owner the oil filter & fuel filter under the hood is the dumbest location
Thanks again for the video. Can you let me know what part number is that cap for avoiding spills on the filter?

there are NO 5th gen trucks yet....... get u some hoses for the fuel filters so u stop w/all the fuel on the ground???
New to diesel, how often does the front end need to be greased?
I don't understand the handle on the top of the oil filter. How did you get that handle on if the oil filter was on the truck?
You can look it up. It is awesome. You can tilt the filter without any worries on oil spill. Look for your specific filter size
how did the docs air filter stand up? did it look good quality next to the factory one?
Yes those filters are very nice and they look original
Microns?
I bet it threw a check engine light for underboost and if it hasn’t it eventually will. Ram is having problems when people use aftermarket filters cause it messes up the air flow parameters. My aftermarket was on for 2,000 miles then kept throwing the code.
@@br4041 Nope still running strong and using their filters again

Hi. This is the first ever oil change? Or the dealer do the first before?
First oil change on my truck yes
My local dealer do this at the 2200 miles. And the next oil change are 7200 miles
@@pr4lviper If they are charging you then they are ripping you off. Thats way too early, if you have a cummins. 15,000 is when it needs changed.
@@warrenmichael918 I know!!
And I thought about it when they did the service...
@PR4L V read the manual. Screw the dealers. They obviously don't know anything. And just want your money. 15,000 is the general interval. 10,000 miles if you tow. But my 1st oil change I did around 7-7500 . Then after typically between 10-15k miles
Hi. Why a 10W-30 over 5W-40? Where u live?
I actually took the 10w30 out of my truck and put 5w40 after im in south florida
@@JohnTravieso1 i live in Puerto Rico. So hare are a tropical zone too so I don’t for my first change what i need. If 10w-30 or 5w40 because in the oil cap the symbol for the 10w-30 are a sun (like☀️ ) and the 5w-40 are a (❄️)

Damn this world is full of dumbass’s and You Tube shows just how many there actually are out there 😂😂😂 . Good job dude and just a heads up on those filters , always go with OEM Mopar or Fleetguard for the stock Fuel Filters and Oil Filter . Also that after market air filter with the glue strips is a big no . Good Luck brother .
I found out the best way to service the the 5th GEN is to roll it it off a cliff. Lol
Lol! I have a 14' so it's about the same. What a pain it is to service and the mess afterwards..grrrrr
15 quarts not 12.
its 12 quarts
Must be nice to be rich
Don’t be sour bud
Playing the victim, eh?. Get a job milos!

@@JohnTravieso1 there some hating mother fuckers in here 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. Stay positive keep doing what your doing brother your doing good, let these 🤡 sit in there own sorrow
Great video! Really helped me out
A "👍" for the proper oilfilter prefill. Many online knuckleheads say it is unnecessary. The Factory Service Manual says it is necessary. People can choose to believe knuckleheads or Factory Service Manual. I know which one I trust.
Great dog, aww man, I that keeps yu busy. Thanks for the vid
I use 5w40 T6 full synthetic and I have researched why the motor specifically likes the thinner weight. Not that 10w30 is bad just my personal preference. I found that getting the cap off of oil filter after priming it was a bitch cuz I tightened it too much so that confined space with tight cap sucked. I use clear tubing to direct flow of fuel filter drainage which helps and I lube the new o-rings with fuel/oil when replacing. I’m interested in using Docs since I’ve been using oem and the prices are high imo. Always trying to learn! Thanks
i ended up taking the 10w30 out and putting 5w40 my truck didnt like the 10w30
@@JohnTravieso1 what didn’t it like about it?
@@jonathancastaneda8242 It started to do the lifter tick when i first started it so i just went and got the 5/40 and it went away
