I love it when people experience Coloratura for the first time... because you do not end up just listening to it, you end up feeling like you experienced something out of this world. Thanks for the review and for making me smile
So true so true. I listened to it, had a time of reflection, sadness, joy and tears for both. Amazing and very well done. I LOVE the live performance in Seattle when he brings the birthday boy on stage. I definitely want to bring my son to the next Cplay show!
Guy Berryman does base. This song is a masterpiece. People of the Pride is a great song. Humankind is fun and reminds me of Mylo. Everyday Life is my favorite album. Great analysis. Coldplay for life.
Reminder that Coldplay only does what they want, not what their record company tells them to. Chris is a fan of every kind of music, from Rammstein to Etta James to Chopin. The records have been diverse because of him. He was 23 when Parachutes came out and he feels like a different person now. You say they are capable of so much more, but they’ve reached that over and over.
Fantastic review. I share the same frustration. This band is SOOOO CAPABLE and it feels like they are robbing themselves of their greatness at times for radio hits Great review - top 3 Coldplay song for me
It amuses me the way people "feel" they need to critique songs and bands and the way they feel about them. It doesn't matter. The music is out there playing, whether you listen or not. You're really incidental to it. It's kind of like saying I don't like the way that river flows. If you don't think Coldplay are doing what they want, well, you don't like the river.
This song, in my opinion, is one of, if not the greatest songs ever created. Its complexity, depth and journey is just unreal and they are so talented. You have to watch them play it live, it will blow your mind. The Howard Stern version is best I believe. Don’t watch it unless you want your head to explode, tho! Great reaction video!!
Coldplay have been around for two decades and have recorded a huge number of amazing songs. Don't like pop radio hits? OK, … there are a lot of other songs. Listen to Spies, Don't panic, Politic, A Rush Blood to The Head, Square One, Whai If, Till Kingdom Come, Violet Hill, Fly on, Midnight ... listen to the whole album Everyday Life ... The development of Coldplay is fascinating and the fact that after 27 years as a band, these 4 guys can sell out a world tour in a few minutes, where they have at least 50,000 people at one concert, is impressive! BTW Coloratura is masterpiece and has a strong Pink Floyd mood.
Coloratura is simply the most brilliant songs they've ever done, yet sadly this isn't the type of music that takes them to the masses and keeps them so relevant. It's only got 30,000,000 plays on Spotify compared to the 700,000,000 My Universe has (and only 8M plays on youtube vs the 220M My Universe has). Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of all their albums and music directions, and can listen to any album, EP or B-side from start to finish. Grew up with this band and love em'!
Yeah I feel that and they should try different things and be accessible to people but modern music is getting very watered down. Cheap platitudes rather than helpful insight in thr lyrics and almost always 4/4 and 3/4 (if theyre feeling spicy lol) time sigs and stale chord progressions. It gets repetitive after awhile so when bands do songs like this, it really is so refreshing! Definitely one of my fav Coldplay songs now 💯
All Coldplay fans feel the exact same way. My dream album of Coldplay is a continuation of Coloratura/Moving to Mars/Amsterdam/Trouble in town.... we need it before they stop making albums like they said. Other than that, I was at Wembley on their last London night last August. It was UN-BELIEVABLE. They’re just sooo incredibly good on stage. They make you feel happy and think of nothing else for almost 3 hours, and beyond. They’ve always performed the best live shows. We were next to the tiny stage... they play acoustic songs in the middle of tens of thousands of people like you wouldn’t believe. And make you feel like they play just for you alone. Finally, thank you for this video, I sort of re-discovered Coloratura through your ears/voice/heart/spirit and I had a smile on my face the whole time. Plus, you’re nice to look at so I’ll take it as well ;) Thank you again and let’s hope the gods governing Coldplay’s inspiration will do their work.
This generation is the ones listening to Coldplay. And they are sadly lacking in attention span. Song is too long for the TikTok instant gratification types. It’s sad a good thing falls on such deaf ears.
The minute I heard “high speed” by them,I knew they were special….that vibe….and this recaptured that for me, with so much more color for added effect …. Coloratura is officially my favourite track by them….I’m so glad they did this one…
I basically have the play button worn out on this song .. it somehow gets better every listen .. the lyrics are incredible once you grasp onto it . The atmosphere everything and I have no problem comparing it to BR because this is absolutely fantastic even watching your reaction video I was like noooo don’t pause it it’s such an experience !! Wait until you listen to it in the night with the stars I cried lol
This song gets me so emotional because Coldplay has been in my life since I was born and while it’s the end of the album it also feels like an end to an amazing band Idk if they’re retiring after this but something in my gut just says they might
Same. They said one year ago they’d quit making new music in 3 years. Don’t know why. So I guess they have one more album in them, if they get on with it. If it’s to save the environment or something, why not do "a Beatles" and quit touring and just make gold like this the next 20 years? I’ve never seen them, and would love to, but I’d rather have music in the indefinite future instead of ever seing them live, if they’re over and out with everything in a couple of years
They're retiring soon... they've given more of themselves than they should.... imagine touring late 25s to 50s, severely impacting their ability to have a proper family life & watch their kids grow up..
At first - you look like a little bit than a brother from Chris 😉 Then you gave a perfect reaction of this masterpiece from Coldplay and I really enjoyed your emotions inside these song. This song is a Progressive Rock Song from Coldplay in a similar style like songs from Pink Floyd. I really like these side from Coldplay and these song represent all kind of talents from these wonderful band. Greatings from Germany
Agree totally the need for an album based around high quality song writing like Coloratura. I had hoped after Everyday Life ( which was a breath of fresh air) that they were moving back to that and was slightly disappointed with Music of the Spheres. I understand why - they wanted more stadium led songs. But when I heard Coloratura my faith was restored that a) the song writing ability was still there and b) it was quality. Maybe one of their last 3 albums will be a return to 'old' Coldplay. Great review of what is clearly one of Coldplay's best songs.
ive been very critical of coldplay since they released X+Y most stuff has been very stale. but theyre back doing what they do best. coldplays prog/pink floyd moment. more of this please.
You should check out People Of The Pride from their album Music of the Spheres. Excellent song which ro me was rhe highlight of their concerts. Saw them live twice in 2022 and both times People Of The Pride was freaking awesome!
Great reaction! I don't normally branch out to different genres of music. I appreciate your reactions, your careful explanations of what you are hearing and why you like (or don't) the piece. I found you through Geoff Castellucci and Voiceplay, I'm glad I stuck around.
Def agree with your call for a longer length. It's a chill spacey vibe once you sit with it. Not even a Coldplay fan. Maybe other Coldplay tracks would benefit. Kinda like old Pink Floyd tracks? (I don't know what the modern equivalent is 😄) Nice job by them.
Check out People of the Pride, ♾, & Humankind from the latest album. Hell, check out the whole thing! (It’s not that long) Who cares what other people thought of it, never understood that lol. But glad you checked Coloratura out & loved it 🤍 I have a feeling Coldplay will be a lot less encumbered by streams/sales/singles with the remaining albums to come. (Also bc Chris has sorta mentioned so)
The most famous hit of a iconic band in an unrivaled gorgeous, phenomenal performance by Diana Ankudinova ( 18 y.o.) Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode / Marilyn Manson / BLUES ROCK VERSION cover) Please react to Diana Ankudinova ! She is called the queen of goosebumps, a unique voice - contralto with polyphonic overtones. Full vocal range - 4 octaves (E3-E7). She has insane and unique vocals and great stage presence and her performances (from the show You are Super ! ( win twice, 14 and15 y.o. ) and ShowMASKgoOn (win 18 y.o.) are gorgeously choreographed and you should find them very interesting. Top song choices are up Can't Help Falling in Love (18), Crow (18) , Wicked Game, Derniere Danse, Blizzard, Human, River. She is really an amazing young artist!
You make a good point about Coldplay being able to produce songs like this. But you can’t fill stadiums consistantly if this was all you did. When you watch a Coldplay concert, of course the crowds love all the songs, but the ones that get everybody jumping and screaming and joining in with all the passion are Fix You..Viva La Vida..A Sky Full Of Stars..etc..etc.. The classic “radio pop songs” you don’t like. Trying to please EVERYONE by producing what the masses want, is not a crime. I doubt 50,000 fans in a stadium would be happy if Coldplay only gave them two and a half hours of mood music, however good that mood music might be 😂
Youre misunderstanding. I'm not saying every song exactly like this one. I don't think anyone would appreciate that.... I'm talking more experimental than the predictable watered down stuff they sometimes lean into. Artforms are meant to be explored, not exploited for revenue. There's absolutely a balance to be had though because people need to make a living of of their work (of course) but Coldplay is in a very influential position and they could never make a dollar again, retire right now, and be fine.
I agree, because those songs are also somehow special, I just really like them. Those that you listed and also Adventure of a Livetime, Up&Up, Something just like this... are my favorites of Coldplay. However the songs in the new album just didn't speak to me. I'd like someone analyze this who has more knowledge. There has to be a difference. Because almost all the songs of Music from the Spheres sound so plain to me, almost too basic. Nothing interesting, nothing surprising, nothing that really speaks to me like those others do, although they are all pop songs. That's why also Coloratura really is the only song that I really liked in that album. I don't know what they did wrong, but they're not for me. The others keep me engaged, they pick up my mood, they're groovy and have interesting riffs or rhythms. The pop songs on the new album, they lack something, I really don't like them.
Coldplay started gettin popular in the early 2000s then they exploded in the 10s. Sadly the generation that grew up with them is also hooked to their endless feeds of instant gratification in the form of short video content. This generation has lost the ability to pay attention for any longer than a few minutes before becoming disinterested because they are so used to watching short video after short video for the instant rush of dopamine and gratification. Sadly they can’t appreciate a song like this. Simply because it’s so long. It’s sad really. Very sad. Coldplay made a musical Mona Lisa when all this generation can comprehend is a selfie of a sad lady dressed in dark clothes.
artists just don’t make music like this anymore. coldplay is capable of doing this and hopefully, with this - being the final track of MOTS - is a sign of things to come.
Definitely my favorite of a pretty mediocre album. I have no issue with Coldplay experimenting with their songs, but this was the only one in the album that I actually felt something after. The rest were simply unremarkable, and in some ways, that's worse than a bad song.
I'm glad there's someone else that likes Infinity by Coldplay! There's something about it that sounds so emotional and amazing. And Coloratura is easily the best off this album.
Coloratura made me cry when I first heard it, I'm not even kidding. It's simply beautiful.

To me “Coloratura” is the culmination of all their record.
Its just perfect. 🥰❤️
I would say it is a saying from them of what is to come as for their next two "last" album
Reminder that Coldplay only does what they want, not what their record company tells them to. Chris is a fan of every kind of music, from Rammstein to Etta James to Chopin.
