Thank you Rita. I am pleased with how the machine turned out. It seems to be running strong and the lock stitch formation is very nice. The inside of the foot controller was messed up and dirty. I think someone tried to adjust it too., but it's all good now. I'll be listing it of Craigslist soon so I can help pay Xmas bills that are on the way. Hope you have a Happy New Year 2018.
Hey Andy I just pulled my 503A from the shelf after sitting a couple years. It’s funny how back then when I first got it I thought I had cleaned it up but having worked on so many other machine since then when I opened it up today I didn’t do that great of a job. I’m trying to find one of your videos that shows how to put the bobbin in there. I put it in there both ways and both seem to be working even though I am having some trouble getting the stitches to line up right. I’m guessing there is a video out there where you show how to put the bobbin in but I’m just catching up on all the other ones you have out here. This sure is a nice machine. I have a 500A I’ll be getting back out to see what a bad job I did back then when I “cleaned” it up😂. Thanks for all you do for us as far as sharing all your knowledge. Take care.
Hi Rhonda. Here is a 50-minute video all about that type of bobbin case/bracket system: ruclips.net/video/JLYNpmFQ3wQ/видео.html This video shows removing the case only on a 503A @ 7:13 and installing it back in @ 13:15: ruclips.net/video/Sn2XD4EILFM/видео.html Here is my 27 video Playlist for working on Model 503A: ruclips.net/p/PLsCOZgzzaiKJZaZn2zl3LsnV2d7UhrqvX
Oh my, I don’t think I could part with this beauty! Great video. I am trying to buy a 503A and I have found one locally on Craig’s List. I have a Bernina and Babylock sewing machine and serger, but I want an all-metal workhorse with meticulous stitching.
A nice choice, although I prefer the 403A for its dependability. You can find the original part # 172505 "Auxiliary Spool Pin" on eBay and other online sites once in a while, but they are very pricey. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=Singer+500+503+500a+503a+Removable+Top+Spool&_sacat=0 Very rarely you will find it included with a set of attachments people are selling and they do not realize how rare the pin is. There is a pin made for brother and some later singer models that the seller claim will "fit" the 500A/503A www.discountsewingmachineparts.com/all-part-types/spool-pins-and-caps/brother-singer-auxiliary-spool-pin-130920001.html IMO I'm guessing you can plug in the pin for use, but you won't be able to turn it upside down and store it in the arm like the original Singer pin.
I have no idea. I have not heard of that. You can buy one for $10. Maybe this is a good question on a slant-needle forum or Rocketeer Forum on social media. I imagine the needle plate fits the throat of the 503A OK. Whether it works with the hook system would be the question.
Buena suerte, Yesbel.
Great job! I didn’t hear any hesitation from the motor and the stitch quality looks excellent. Thank you for another series;)

Hi Andy,
Do you know if anyone sells what would work as the removable (3rd) spool pin for the 503A?
Love all your videos!
Sheri

Do you know if you can chain stitch on the 503a with needle plate 21913? Does the bobbin case need to be changed to do so?

I have the Singer 503, is it similar in terms of power and amount of layers to sew? I just got that one free. Thanks
yes
Tengo está máquina y me está saltando puntadas 😢
