I have to say, I don't share Bryn's faith but, if I ever did, this performance alone would be the one that would swing it - not just the instrument, but his fragile and heartfelt voice. And I apologise for the previous mis-spelling of Harpolek - I have no excuse, not even autocorrect, which is is my usual get out policy. Thank you so much, Bryn - you brought me closer to God than I have ever been in my life.
Never missed Bob and the TOGWT and saw this when it first aired and been a fan ever since. I have lent the LTDGB album to many people since and always had trouble getting it back as it is universally liked. A great instrumentalist who should have received much greater air time. People like him and Roy Harper are really hidden treasures.
What a beautiful arrangement! Reminds me of Phil Keaggy's early style of unique chord changes. That's what I love (and miss) about the 70's. Thank you so much for sharing.
Several years ago i mailed Bryn about the Harpolek which he is playing here. Bryn replied soon and very gentle. Unfortunately he sold that instrument what he regretted. He also wrote that it was a Swedish instrument. This song is familiar to his "Sing to the Lord" (on the album "Grand Arrival", 1978). Great sound, great spirit. Fine art.
My: I well remember being captivated when I saw this on Whistle Test at the time. Then went out & found the album. Quite special back then. Chris De Burgh appeared around this time too and I also warmed to his early rendition of Satin Green Shutters and his comments: something about setting the song against the context of 'the cold & cynical times' (can't remember full phrase). That also summed up Bryn's contribution for me, particularly as Belfast was falling apart. 'Sunny Side of the Street!'
Hi Bryn I have a 4 track live cassette from a BBC Sunday Night Program called Songs Of Searching. I think the broadcast date is 19.12.75 (might be 76) Grappenhall Rag, We're all One, The Morning Star, Good Job. 4 piece band. It's tagged onto a BBC Radio In Concert. One day I'll get the kids to teach me the technology to get it onto a CD. You're very welcome to a copy if you don't have it. With best wishes Barry
Fabulous. From The Old Grey Whistle Test. How about trying to upload the 4 songs from Songs of Searching December '75? Everyone should hear The Morning Star (even when it's not Christmas!) Thanks for this. Wonderful!! Barry
Thank you so much, Bryn, that would be so fantastic. That performance was one of the highlights of my OGWT viewing. I went on and bought your albums off the back of it and they've given me a great deal of pleasure for many years. My 13 year old son loves them, too!

Only 74 views? Crazy. This is music from heaven.
Beautiful and brilliant
a couple more - should follow in the next couple of weeks
I loved this song then...and I love this song now....
I'm not sure whether the angels play the Harplok, but they most assuredly play this song on their ethereal cassettes. Best version ever.

Yet another recording that should have
been on the OGWT compilation DVD .
I once spilled a pint of Guiness over your shoes at the Roundhouse (by accident) .. good days :-)
Lovely. Peaceful and well sung.

more of this concert please
@tarachos "what an amazing instrument, Bryn. How long have you had that?" !
Have you got anymore of that concert?
What did Whispering Bob say after that? It looked like he was sitting there like a school teacher, waiting to pronounce on the work.
never heard of songs of searching ... is this a website?
God bless, Bryn
BTW, Bryn, when can we expect "Eee, I Love You Lass," from the same OGWT session?
I'll have a look through the archives!
