Norma: It’s normal
Me, screaming: *NO IT’S NOT!!!!!!*
Regina Reece HASHSHSH ITS INCEST LMAO THATS HIS MOM SSJJDJDJSK
Regina Reece you cannot sleep with ur parent 💀
@@Nostalgicguy2242 I'm guessing ur from Alabama, SWEET HOME ALABAMA
I said the same thing
Oh yes it is.
norman wanted help so bad because he was aware of his condition but norma let it get worse. norman was such a genuinely sweet boy in the earlier seasons - to bradley, to cody, and even dylan.
wait, it's not that Norma did everything on purpose and didn't want to do something ... I'm sure she wanted the best for her son but her fear of someone taking him away from her was out of bounds... but you need to consider that when she grew up she was abandoned not only by her parents but by her OWN BROTHER who raped her, so there it can be explained her fear of Norman being away from her, from being alone and "abandoned" again... I mean, I'm not justifying her, but I understand a little
She ruined that. She created the monster he became and she paid the ultimate price.
Norma was such a complicated character. She's severely troubled as a person, but you sympathize with her. She truly is a good person at heart, who wants the best for her son, but she acts out in ways that worsened Norman's mentality and behavior in the long run. I feel bad for her, because her terrible family shaped her to react the way she does, and therefore she handles her problems senselessly, sometimes leaning on Norman too much and putting unreal standards on him when he is just her son. Despite her cruel past, her actions still have consequences and Norman's emotional health is affected. It's so tragic.
She’s insane
She is insane, and she made her son insane basically... tragic
@@Evelinaa Wrong. This was completely out of her control, Norman was mentally ill from the start. He killed his own dad and she took the blame for it to protect him. She was definitely overprotective of him but she was like that that BECAUSE he was sick and she was afraid he'd hurt someone else and they'd lock him up forever. He did NOT become like that because of her. Yes, she had boundary issues (they both did) and yes she smothered him but you would too if your child was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Imagine everytime you saw your son walking out the door you'd worry he'd have a blackout and kill someone by mistake? Norma delayed the inevitable but she was not responsible for him becoming a monster.
@@distantraveller9876 That's true and a good perspective, but she should have gotten him into an institution and that's a fact
The woman had an emotional incestrial relationship with her son. A lot of mothers with there sons are like that. This is not a good person. This is somebody who severely mental and its all about control. People who normalise this are just as bad as the characters. These are pure narcissists.
She ignored everything
Yup. And look what it costed her.
I hated the ending 😭😭
Roger Smith what did it cost her
@@megane617 norman ended up killing her and then he ended up dying too
she literally said ALL the wrong things💀💀💀
Joya Johnson lmaooo yes
Pretty much! Just continue to give him a green flag for incest!
“ it is completely....... NORMAL” -Norma Bates
i mean, imagine your child tells you they think theyre sexually attracted to you.. i would probably say something like that too, i wouldnt know what to say or do
@@paige1281 if the child is younger than 16, it's all right to share hugs and kisses.. no boy that's mentally sane would ever think of taking "son and mommy" embraces and kissies to the next level..
These kinds of taboo discussions really add such a depth to their relationship and why norman thinks and acts the way he does. The psychology behind the show and the way it is portrayed in the characters really is what sets the show apart from anything else we've seen.
So true and every time i watch the series the more the I see the psychology in the show and how deep it is.
Yes, it makes it so interesting and tragic at the same time because you can tell Norma is a well meaning mother but with her tragic past it causes her to raise her son the wrong way.
U guys know nothing about Psychology
this whole thing could've been avoided if he was gay
Are you sure? Nothing is black or white, just gray... Maybe a gay man can also have an Oedipus complex with his mother... Who knows?
alguien1234 or could a gay man have an oedipus complex w his father? idk i’m high
Then he wouldn’t be able to be not attracted to his brother Dyldon
Romero is hot no homo
Then he probably would have ended up dressing as his father instead of his mother- going around killing people wearing a flat cap with a fake moustache and smoking a pipe.
0:05 7 year old me going to my mom in the middle of the night to tell her I threw up
Regan Spinks YOU ALMOST MADE ME CHOKE ON MY FOOD WITH THAT XD
LMFAOOO
It’s 2am and I’m laughing my head off.

relatable!!!
2:50 the way he says "mother~" is so cute
Jyan Najm I would say "ma" or "mama" but to me saying "mother", it kinda sounds old.
Kat Redd I say “mom” or “momma”
Ikr he’s the cutest.
Me too actually ahahaah
@@katredd1498 I say mother... but I do it because it annoys my own Mom and she in love with this show.
Your gonna get this out of you head
“Grabs to bed and embraces closely”
"Completely normal" uh huh.
Now looking back at this scene, I think Norma's readiness to call it "normal" because humans are just like animals, more or less implied that she's equally as sexually attracted to Norman. She thinks it's perfectly fine because she has the willpower not to cross that line. Yet she actively fondles her son who just confessed that he wants her sexually. On top of her body language of constantly looking at his mouth when she speaks. She just seemed much too happy about his confession and not bothered at all; part of me wonders if she hoped he'd make a move so she could justify it. That, or she knew that if he is sexually attracted to her, then he will never, ever leave her. Either way, she'd win.
That’s so messed up.
In the film apparently she was a perv. Norman says she touched him up.
Oh yeah cuz laying down in bed with him in a *very* close embrace is gonna banish those thoughts of attraction RIGHT outta him xD
Did you even watch Bates Motel? She didn’t want to banish them, she wanted to hang onto him for emotional support however she could.
Hahahahaha
Lol
I mean... Norma’s reaction to him is actually a really good explanation of thought-action fusion and how literally nobody can control their thoughts, only their choices. Trying to change your thoughts will only screw a person up inside but just allowing them to exist without assigning any validity to them is actually a really healthy way forward. (Though the snuggling afterwards couldn’t have been worse timing 🤣).
I really expected an awkward boner scene or comment..
Norman and Norma being anything but normal.
"HUG me damn it, Come on this is SILLY " 😂 l liked her reaction 😂💕💕
I used to hate how Norma would cover for him and sweep everything under the rug. She ruined him. If she would have faced the truth and got him professional help when she first noticed his behavior, she’d be alive, they’d live a happier and easier life. She wasn’t a good mom. Their relationship was toxic and she never allowed him to develop as a person because she smothered him.
Anthony Johnson She was his MOTHER, he was a child. She was responsible for him!!!! Aint no “blaming”.
Honestly Norman was destined to have this fate no matter if he got help or not. Medications and therapists don’t do shit. All of this was basically inevitable.
spoiler alert
she had NO ONE she got raped by her brother and hit by her husband, the only person she had was him. Easy to say for you.
Bablooka Jonez oh so it’s her fault she’s dead it’s not the person’s who killed her fault, get help please.
Complicated characters, very good acting skills right there. Also effective writing. Too many comments saying this is 'ew' but y'all better remember this was their approach to the original Psycho movie which Norman himself admitted he thinks he's attracted to his mother and so on... Also this scenario exists in psychology. Props to Vera Farmiga, no one could nail the contemporary Norma but her.
Norma is so sweet, she’s kinda crazy, but she always tried to protect him and take all craziness out of him :(
:(
She tried to love him into being "normal" but it doesn't always work that way
1:52 I just noticed he glances downwards when she says "So what if you notice my breast once in a while"...
Spicy Biscuit i know. it’s that one little subtle thing that sort of completes the thing.
i’d like to know who came up with it, if it was already in the script of if that glance was added later on...
that just goes so well with the whole thing

petmalu yep😂
The line “hug me dammit” became something COMPLETELY different in the captions😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
LMAO I SAW THAT TOO
I felt desperately sorry for Norman. He is a sweet boy who can't tell if what he thinks or does is real or not.
The way he said “Mother” at that one part 😂😂😂😂😂
Homeboy likes his mother a little too much
.....ummmmmm wtf
Kayla Johnson lmfaoo that's what I'm saying
LMAO..... I know right...
Yeah
Kayla Johnson on the other hand they say we look for characteristics of our parents in our partners
same...
If you ARENT AWARE, in psychology it is called the Oedipus complex and it’s real!!
I'm currently in the middle of reading Psycho, and Mrs. Bates tells Norman how disgusted she is about how he spoke to her about him finding her attractive sexually. And Norman said that he just wanted to let her know it's called the Oedipus complex and if he told her how he feels they could work it out.
"Hug me dammit, come on, this is silly..."
"MoThEeeR!" 😂🤣
What she said to him was ok. I think it is a natural reaction, what was wrong is what she did at the end with the hug and kisses, increasing her son's confusion instead of putting space between them.
Ikr like I'm not saying mother and son family relationship isn't ok it's just not too too tooooooo much
I love Freddie highmore! Bummed that it's over!
Melissa Miska The good doctor is amazing💚
I hate him hes creepy
This show is pure cinema gold!
If norman would have leaned in and kissed her at the end, i cant tell if she would have stopped it or kissed back
The way he pushed her onto the bed then they held each other while lying down. wHA-
His "sexually" was in his accent.
Norma and that monologue can go somewhere i get that she was trying to calm him and say "it's fine" but she went to far into it and then i was like back up
just me I feel like that was just his voice cracking but it did sound Brit
I know it was Norma herself who turned him this way. I just cant stop feeling sorry for Norman
i dont blame him. i mean, look at her😤🙌🏿😍😍😍
HAHA
Down terrible

That’s enough internet for tonight
It breaks my heart to see how he's shaking so much poor child
But-does Norma like that her son is “attracted” to her?
Good question. I don't know XD
I'd say yes, personally. Mostly because she didn't necessarily deny it. Her actions say a lot more than her words! Lol
@@cryinginred no it was all in his head.. He's attracted to her..
@@gravelock you have a point! We know for certain his feelings for her are strong and his manifestations of her are of how he wants her to feel towards him.

The scariest thing about this show is how much Norma reminds me of my own mother...

'' So much for therapy'' No Norma no.
Red Albatross 😂😂😂
The chocolate factory was never the same after that
AYOOOOOO LMAO
She is the cause of his behavior
The way she downplays and almost encourages his sexual desires for her is unhealthy.
But still much better than Norma in Psycho 4 who forced him to wear her clothes, put lipstick on him and called him a girl to discourage his sexual desires for her.
This has such an Oedipus Rex vibe to it...but this is TAME compared to Game of Thrones
Exactly. Bates Motel Norma might have been overprotective and controlling but she wasn't the outright abusive monster film Norma was.
Underrated show. I mean, definitely disturbing, which is why it probably didn't become more popular. But the characters were so real and interesting.
One of the few really good horror series. Wish we could get more shows like this.
Yeah, it's totally normal to fantasize about sleeping with your mom and dad and the dog...wtaf?! 😳😳😳
I wonder if she was fantasizing about sleeping with him too. I kind of feel like she was....🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
*Cue the banjo music*
I am attracted to Freddie highmore
ur attraction is due to the realation between them both???? frankly their relation is really thrilling for me......
Attracted to your own mom is not normal....lol
The hug was cute and all until they laid in bed together, with that close proximity.
Her trying to make this ok just only makes this worse. She should've gotten him help but she couldn't because of her issues.
Not sure who is creepier here. Both need long term therapy and to live apart. But hey it's just fiction right? The way she holds her son is how a lover would. Wickedly inappropriate.
Fiction? Not unless you believe that Robert Bloch basing the charcter of Norman Bates on a French serial killer who was never caught by police & only discovered many years after his death, when his family found stacks of love letters he had written to his mother, where in he confessed to killing 30+ people & apologized for killing her, to be a hoax.
this is the part when Norman's dont see it this boy have a problem.
Zorina Zisa bruh
Zorina Zisa this the part where Zorina Zisa’s dont see that this sentence has no grammar

This is like the opening scene in one of those porn movies with mothers and sons
The way Norma fondles and kisses Norman is just as creepy .
completely inappropriate
I wish norman would've gotten better instead WAY WORSE.
It's very cleverly written, she's not entirely wrong but she's also quite far from being right!
Yeah that sounds exactly what a sexually abusive parent would say to their child. Convince them its normal 🙃
this is the most uncomfortable thing ive ever witnessed. for the actors especially.

It's so easy to armchair general the whole thing LUL
I can't say that you're wrong. I never had a mother growing up, but if I would have had my pick, I would have wanted one just like Norma!
She is a bad mother. I’d rather have no mother than her. She for sure is the problem and contributed to her son’s mental instability. It’s not okay for any mother and son to act like that with each other and it is just as much on her as it is him, actually way more her fault. She should’ve never had kids, being a mother isn’t for her. She is insane. How anyone likes that crazy person blows my mind, she is awful, she ruined his life, season 1 if he had a mom that wasn’t a nutcase he could have gotten medication and help and maybe could have gone down a different path. The mom is the main one to blame. As far as I’m concerned, everyone Norman has killed, she has killed, it all goes back to her horrible parenting. Awful human being.
Ended right before the kiss
BRO WHAT DO YOU MEAN THAT HES GROWING?! HES A GROWN MAN
The whole show just makes me feel disgusted by this mother/son relationship ... the mother treating him like he is his partner gross
Dude you lost the psychological thriller of this series. There's much more into their relationship that I discovered and I somehow formulated my own understanding how these characters act the way they do.
Then don't watch it lol. This show isn't for everyone
I totally agree
Norma, normal, Norman...
A son is a poor substitute for a lover- Norman Bates
Vera Farmiga is soo gorgeous😍🌷
Norma was broken too.
People are not so simplistically right and wrong about every decision/choice they make in their lives.
She is as crazy as he is from all the years of abuse, and his bizarre infatuation with her served as proof it. Norma’s blinded love served as cover for ignoring his murderous behavior
2:50 MuaaaahTHUUUURR

I'm confused
I thought she was his mother
she is, thats what this show is about
BlackoutKalico Beta About what? Their relationship?
yep pretty much
Robert Lienthang The show is a prequel to the 1960s slasher film "Psycho" in which Norman is a killer with the alternate personality that comes in the form of his mother. This show basically depicts his relationship to his mother and how his story played out the way it did.
