Slipknot is incredible live, but I can think of many guitarists who can play in a more intricate fashion.

Mick is on record in saying that the studios told him to dial his sound back a bit and focus on the drones. Also, Slipknot is a combination of 9 people rather than a showcase for any ot them. They are like KISS or GWAR- the entire circus comes or no one does.

The Music Video features a "radio-friendly" version that "dampens" the screams by Corey singing over them. This the song from the album that doesn't have the clean singing and only the screaming. I heard the music video one first and it was one of the first Slipknot songs that I really liked because the screams were dampened. (It actually got me into Slipknot.) Now I've gotten into Slipknot so the music-video version pales in comparison. The screams just seem lifeless and the song in general is mixed horribly for some reason. So you're not wrong, the album version is better.
