Back in 70's I helped my buddy restore a 59 TR3 basket case car . The guy who had it before tried some restoration work himself and made a mess out of everything he touched . Just one example ,he used copper lines to the rear for brake lines. Forced taper fittings into the wheel cylinders and trashed the two in the rear . Used a common bolt in place of a blender value in one disc brake caliper. I could go on and on. It was a great experience and learned a lot . Fortunately we had a great manual to work from.
The first car I ever owned. Loved it. British made with Lucas electrics!!! I wish I had that car now. So much fun with the wind in your hair. It had 25 lbs./HP but gobs of torque and would fly. It also would handle like the low to the ground sports car it was. It was just a blast to drive. Got it in 1964 when I got out of the Navy.

Owned one of these in about 1972 and enjoyed one of the most memorable night drives of my life, returning from watching the RAC Rally through the Kielder Forest, Northumberland to my home about 120 miles away. On narrow country roads, the car performed like magic in it's surefooted handling and responses, which rather surprised me as I had not had a chance to really feel it out at speed prior to that day! A very satisfying automotive experience.
Love the 3A, had a 1956 TR3 in my early twenties, went on to own a TR4A IRS. Wish I had kept them both. The TR3 was a real mans car, a bit raw on the edges, but great fun to drive. Cheers from NZ.

Had a white TR 3A with blue leather, wire wheels. Bought it for $1500 in 1963. Sold it when i joined the army in '64, to a woman who wrecked it. Broke my heart.
I was looking forward to a drive! These TR3s were a jaunty-looking sports car...and they were rather quick, being light, and having an engine rated at 100hp. A buddy of mine owned one, and I owned a 1959 Austin-Healey. We would drag..These british cars were race off of a light, and his 4 banger would keep up with my six cyl up to maybe 40mph, then my 130hp engine would pull away. But his TR3 did handle a bit better than my heavier, nose-heavy car! These sports car were the original "British Invasion", before the Beatles showed up!
Great car. I am wondering if you might know where I could find that luggage rack with the interior cross-braces? I need that bracing for my vintage car trunk lid. Thanks.
This is interesting! I'm a neighbor, close by to the Michigan Road business district. Years ago, 70 or so, O. A. King Triumph was open. I saw the TR 2 and Spitfire s there. My nextdoor neighbor went to King's and bought a TR 2. I think King is still associated with the city and officiating the 500 here in Indianapolis. Ovid A. King was a member of Crooked Creek Baptist. Major Bob is wrong about 95% of these cars going to the US. Here in Canada where we have 10% of the US population not to mention horrible winters we took twice as many TR-3's per capita as the US. These cars were everywhere, especially in a university town like mine.
What a BS, I had a TR3 in 1970, I am 1.85 or 6ft 2"", I had more leg space than in any sedan here in Europe. Only thing, I took out the small bench like seat behind me, and took out the adjustable mechanism from the steering wheel.
One of the worst cars to come out of England. WW2 technology in 1960. I had one in 1968. Worst automobile purchase I ever made. Looked great but drove like a truck. If anything could break, it broke. Built by sadistic Englishmen.

Isn't taking the car out for a drive a thing with car reviews?
Hi writerconsidered, Depends on my time. Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. If you type into RUclips search "My Car Story with Lou Ride" you'll see many cars we take for a ride. Stay tuned tomorrow and you'll enjoy the review & ride in a 69 Boss Mustang. Hope that helps, Lou
They drive like shxxt.

Easy Dicky, It's a car.....not something like your Laura video to get excited about! Stay well, Lou
@@loucostabile well I had both....jealous?
One of the worst cars to come out of England. WW2 technology in 1960. I had one in 1968. Worst automobile purchase I ever made. Looked great but drove like a truck. If anything could break, it broke. Built by sadistic Englishmen.
Hi Pablo, Clearly not the one for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
