Taking a trek through the jungle has nothing to do with palm oil production. If anything, building up an eco tourism industry would do a world of good in preserving these natural environments and habitats because it would lessen the overreliance on palm oil production for the economy.
It's teaching you a lesson. Next time you might not be so lucky respect their space you're in their home plus to be so ballsy with a little baby like that
Not trying to prove anything. I love animals and nature. I would never deliberately try to get so close but this orangutan came to us and reached out for my hand. We were with experienced guides who all have a depth of understanding about orangutan behavior and how to keep safe in their company.
I'm so glad there are people like you in the comments that know this. Not sure why everyone expects an orangutan to behave aggressively with no provocation.
I love them Can a orangutan kill or really hurt a human in a fight? They are huge but look so slow normally monkeys are fast af but they look like they are taking a hit from a blunt constantly with everytime they breath😂
Which part of this do you feel exhibits cruelty? And how do you feel you're able to garner that from a 30 second video? These creatures are wild. They're not forced there, are forced to do anything. They were rehabilitated from captivity so very used to being around humans from a young age. I can assure you no harm came to this orangutan or her child. I'm vegan and fully against any form of animal cruelty.
What happened after the camera cuts off. I'm pretty sure this is Jackie and has actually bitten several people after they run out of food. I don't think she has ever badly hurt anyone (though even a play bite from these cuties can do some damage).
Either way. What a cool experience. Ive been watching orangutan videos and following the rehabs for some time and its kinda funny I can recognize these guys by name sometimes. 😂
I was all good! Jojo (our guide) obviously has a pretty good relationship with Jackie and some of the other rescue Organutan's and she went over to him
This orangutan was rehabilitated so used to being around humans for the earlier years of their life. They could certainly be aggressive but it's unlikely unless they feel threatened.
Seen a video like this there was a woman got too close to the ape The ape kept trying to bite her hand The people with her kept trading with the ape with food till it let go of her
a lot of the orangutans in Gunung Leuser national park are rescued, and they spent years being rehabilitated into their natural jungle habitat through a government program involving the local guides. For this reason, human contact comes naturally to Orangutans like Jackie
They do this..as a form of " holding the person hostage" so to speak...until they get enough FOOD to fill them to there satisfaction...😲😞 It's EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND QUITE DISCUSTING IF YOU ASK ME😢
Looking back I could have better considered the risks, but they're risks I'm willing to take to connect with our natural world. I would much rather this than taking an animal from it's natural habitat and placing them in zoo. Or those born in captivity.
They're immensely human in their characteristics and behaviour. You wouldn't believe quite how much that's true until you're up close to them in their natural habitat. I would not typically recommend getting this close to wild animals, especially one as string as an orangutan. However these one's in particular were rescued from captivity and spent years being rehabilitated into the jungle again to live a better life. They're used to human contact and friendly to visitors that come with good intentions and with a local guide that understands their behaviour. I would truly recommend a trip to Bukit Lawang, Sumatra for a future travel plan.
