- Whenever you get a new bike, job #1 is to set the cockpit to where you need it to be for your anatomy. This video takes you through this process and I share how I fit myself to this motorcycle.
We are all unique, so my measurements give you the methodology of how to find yours based on spine and arm length, then lever angles and reach based on finger length.

Thanks Dave. Great video. It’s amazing that when we all drive a car we instinctively change the seat positioning, the reach and rake of the steering wheel, and the mirrors. Why? Because we were taught this. However, the exact same principles (apart from changing the mirrors) isn’t done by most riders to ensure everything is in the right place. 👍😎
ref milling handlebars - I just file off the nipple on the brake / clutch clamps, then I can place them where I want on any bar. It does no harm and the clamping force is more than sufficient. I think those nipples are just for ease of assembly at the factory to ensure they all look the same and are not all over the shop, especially when Luigi has had too much wine at lunch on a friday afternoon...
Looking forward to future content. I am riding a 2012 Multistrada 1200 S with the electronic Ohlins. Such a great bike, you look like you have a stunning example on your hands - it looks nearly brand new!
I'm normally not a big fan of YT gurus but this has been very informative. Ive had numerous bikes in my life and so far my current bike, An early Yamaha TDM 850 has been the most comfortable for me. I had to do it all by trial and error and took a few years to finally get it right. If I had seen this video sooner, i could have done it in a few weeks! I had to change the bars to Renthal 756's in the end. Ive just come back from a 1200km ride weekender and after a shower and some "necessities,"I could have jumped on and done it all again. Cant wait for more content on this bike, I currently have an 11 multi 1200s. I am planning on doing a track day on it come spring. Fresh tires this winter and replace leaking fork seal (both were recently done but one started leaking again 😢).
I had an absolute blast on it at the track in intermediate group once I got the chassis and suspension sorted. very little effot needed to get it around each lap.

You tuned my 2011 Multistrada S, at Ducati bike night in Little Italy, San Diego (got the compression to 2). Its tough with my height to tune ergonomics
I ride a 2010 Multi "S" that I've had for years. I think I have it set up pretty good for myself but I am really looking forward to this video series to see if I should maybe tweak things a little. Thanks. (I'm now 75 and have 65K miles on the bike).
Excellent work with getting the chassi and suspension where you feel it is good. Look at tire wear and see if the leading edge of the tread is rounded down to see if rebound is incorrect (same applies to the front). The Contact Playlist will assist you on rebound damping.
Given the multistrada is on or off road capable, the slightly low brake handle is [for me anyway]... a tradeoff. If I am up on the pegs for any reason that necessarily demands that lower angle. Nothings free as they say, but having to reach up for the brake is doom: weak wrist position plus lost time, plus the chance of adding throttle.

Surgery for prostate removal (cancerous) was March 11th and life prior to that was very painful. Hoping to be filming again in a couple of weeks to push through this vs do what the doctor's say. Being 80lbs less than I used to be means my strength and stamina are low. Need to get those back.

I picked up nice Super tenere lot of fork dive under brake went heavy weight oil and added more oil much better also raised fork tubes up through triple clamp turns a bit quicker now for s big girl

I have sane bike with 37k kms. I am still not 100% keen on electronic suspension. Hope to see your thoughts on that.
I will be changing the fork and shock oil veery 8,000miles to make sure the suspension oil is optimal and does degrade too far.

Seems like bar comes with standard mount or riser installed?
Drilling additional material from bar could compromise it's strength. removing pin is better way.
This cool suspension may be upgraded with Ohlins ESU Mechatronic suspension upgrade unit 35000-03 _3

I have a 2021 Yamaha mt07 with only 33 miles on it. I barely can tip toe on the bike. I would love to sit flat footed. I'm considering a lowering link for the rear and to cut the front fork spacers down, but not sure how much. I'm 5'8" 213 pounds. How much should I cut the front spacers? What oil should I use to refill the fork tube with? I don't do any wheelies, no off reading, and no stunt riding. I just want to cruise on my motorcycle and pick up girls😅. Thanks Dave
Thank you for your question. I would trim the spacer 10mm and use 400cc of 15w oil. I would set the forks with 20mm of fork showing above the upper triple clamp. Go to soupysperformance.com/ and lower the rear by 1". That should get you flat footed.
Like # 402 for the songs of these sausage creatures! Dave, what is your inseam? I see by FAQ stats the 1200S Duc seat height is listed at 33.5": is that seat adjustable? Hope your recovery is going well, and recommend a look into the Gerson Therapy approach to diet and the C recovery! Thank You for all your great works!
Thank you for your support! Inseam is 30 inches and I have to move to one side to get the ball of my left foot down. Seat is not adjustable for height. This is at 45mm of sag (static plus rider) and compression at 50% of the total range.

Cut the spacers 10mm shorter for your bike.

In my case, because I'm 5'9" 63kg (yamaha xt660z) , I figured it helps me to have the handlebars a little higher so I have smaller inputs from my skinny hands. Is this a correct thought or am I messing up my set up?
Hi Dave I really appreciate your videos they are amazing! I wanted to ask you about how should I setup my Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 2023. The rear shock factory preload is 5 clicks, I weight 78kg with gear 80kg. Should I add 1 click or maybe 2… For the front fork rebound and compression I have options for sport and comfort also standard which is somewhere in the middle of the 2. Also the rear shock rebound also is adjustable like the front for sport, standard and comfort. What do you recommend for those? Thanks in advance
Set sag at 30-35mm front and rear. Then set rebound in the middle of the range. Once you ride for 20 minutes, go to 25% and then 75% of the the range on the forks and shock simultaneously. Also assess fork and shock travel used after the ride to see if the bike is balanced with even travel front and rear.
Is wrong placement of my handlebars the cause of my upper back pain when riding between my shoulder blades?. Like a burning sensation? I found ya yesterday on YT and started watching your videos. Thank you for what you do from balmy Arizona😂
1. Reach is too far or too close on the bars - most likely too far as your shoulder blades are separating. 2. Have someone take a picture of you from the front to make sure you are centered, not necessarily the handlebar.
Which type of Grease is best for wheel bearing applications
1 Lithium red EP grease nlgi 3
2.methyl lithium red gel grease nlgi 2.5
Please specific details will help These are some options which I have in my area

i have cb 500 1994 assuming i want linear front spring what spring rate you sugest for me im 180 -190 lb in gear bike with full tank is 420 pounds +/- and it have weight distribution with rider on 45% front 55% rear they try sell me 6,79 however it was progresive one so it increase resist non liner as it compress deeper and depepr from some point but i think it be to soft woth linear one ,hyperpro feg have from 7 ,7,5,8 to 8,5 👍🏻 i though 8 be good or it beto stiff for ride on bad quality road ? i dont understand this rsting they say its 8 N /mm what mean with 122 kg at front when i seat on bike front should compress x9,81=1196 :8 = 149 mm and this bike have frontsuspension jump 120 mm max 🤷🏻♂️🤔 like what? ok x2 cos thers 2 spring so 75 mm after seat on bike defenitelly to much where sah shpuld be 30-35 mm with this rating is something not right or some other parts in front fork give resist what i know in regard to dynamic compresion but static? 🤷🏻♂️ assuming thers no other ststic resist than only spring and some very small friction inside fork than its probably kg/mm and not N whatever how it is what front fork spring rate ypu sugest fpr me i wonder ? or fuk this i take this progrsive one and whatever onlysnetup sag with preload caps or make biger/smaller inside spacer if required 👌🏻 now i ride on to soft withput preload front fork compress 60 mm whet i seat on bike so i put in fork more spacer now is 32 mm its progresive spring and actually not bad at high speed on bumpy road 👌🏻 but with such preolad setup with this spacer not perfect as stock bike is withput preload at all and it shpuld with stock spacer have good sag i quees 👌🏻or for spring rsting they count only driver weight divide be 2 and than it start to have sense in regsrd to at first place static sag cos then its 80kg:2 x9,81 :sag 30 mm let say = 13,08 :2 cos thers 2 spring = 6,5 around than 6,79 will fix good for me 🤔 yea probably they calculate those spring rate like this cos only than it have some sense e in regard to sag asf 👌🏻 whatever it is ,what spring rate ypu sugest for me ? 6,79 be good or not ? ☕️
If you have regularly bottomed the forks in the past, I would suggest you use 15w oil with the 78nm spring.

@@asaro5608 Cold pressure would be my first question followed by odometer reading to see if the shock needs to be replaced with aerviceable unit.
Is it better to keep the grip parallel to ground or to the upper steering plate or something in between?
Parallel to the ground is priority as test #1. Then go slightly angled above and below and see what YOU feel is most comfortable.
Do you have any experience with certain bikes being "allergic" to some tyre brands? I have fitted Dunlop Roadsmart 4 on my MTS1200 and the bike is crazy unstable at higher speeds,wants to initiate a wobble. On the Pirelli GTs that was unheard of.Everything remained the same inbetween tyre changes. My pressures are 2.4 bar front/2.6 rear and a 90kg rider.Suspension sag is correct with 52mm rider sag front and rear.
The allergy you refer to is geometry. There is no universal circumference for any one tyre size. Therefore, even switching between models within a tyre can create a massive impact on the chassis to create wobbles, braking instability and loss of braking power or sudden turn in. I have videos on this topic in the Contact Patch playlist.
Did you try pushing the forks down in the triple clamps to eliminate the wobble/instability? A few mm can make a huge difference.

Hi Dave as a 300lb guy (slowly dropping weight) is the standard suspension on an MT10 (non SP) something I can work with setting wise or will an upgrade be necessary?
You will likely need different springs. Check your race sag and your static sag, but likely the OEM springs are too soft.

Have you had the bike set up yet? How old is the fork and shock oil? Was rebound set with hot or cold oil?
@@catalystreactionsbw the bike is a RE continental gt 650 2024, is brand new, only 400miles on it... no setup yet, just how it comes from the factory, only thing ive changed is the steering damper for dont die haha
@@catalystreactionsbw the bike only have pre charge in rear shocks and front fork dont have anything, im buying a pre-charge cap for it, should i take a look in the oil? i live in Brazil... no good mechanics near here haha
