This is my favorite ending. It shows the main flaw of kung lao, the reason why he never became the champion of earthrealm, his ego, and shows him reflecting on that and becoming humble. Actually really nice

he's not wrong-ish. OG timeline, like the old old one Kung Lao was pretty humble. I believe the main reason he took such an egotistical turn was thanks to MK: Shaolin Monks retelling the story with additions or straight up changes to the first two games' story.
Honestly I like this for his story. Kung Lao did train him well the problem was his lack of humility spread to his student. Seeing the cons of this will temper and help him grow. Being a master is already a good win especially if he’s training others. I could see them making teen shujinko a playable next game. Imagine he can mix and copy both the opponents and kameos powers. He’d be like a super difficult but once mastered broken main
“Born of Deception” I’m so happy they brought my boy Shujinko back. He even had an Evil Liu Kang phase, that got cleared up. Shame it was Kung Lao who was the Damashi that caused his corruption, but I understand why they did it
Lao is one of my favourite characters, but i must admit he's got what he deserves, a humility's lesson😮😢 he learnt from his mistaken, a step foward for him❤
This ending is cool and all, but Netherrealm, you can't just drop a bombshell like "Liu Kang can take away someone's abilities and reset their memories" and not expect me to have a million questions about that.
Considering the fact that Raiden in previous timelines could summon spells, and that Liu Kang took his powers, then it's plausible to say that Liu Kang also can summon spells, and used one of them to neutralize Shujinko. Or he just used the Hourglass to turn back the time into when Shujinko had no powers nor mermories of what he did. Either one of those.
If Liu Kang can do this now he better be able to do this if Shao tames Onaga or when Shang Tsung returns or when the black dragon show up. I bet 100 billion smeckles they forget they established these powers when the story dlc comes out.
Well, Liu Kang should be Keeper of Time at this point, right? So, all he'd have to do is reverse Shujinko's time to where he's a new initiate again, which would strip of the powers and memories he'd gotten up to this point.
I’d like to think that it’s a complicated spell, and maybe they could say that you can only use it once on a person because then they would become too aware. Idk tho
It reminds me of his ending in Armageddon. Once he defeated Blaze, he was confident enough to challenge the Elder Gods for the right to rule all realms
This is the best ending for him. I do believe evil people should either die or be locked up but it’s even better when they learn not saying he is evil but I just love it when we learn and get better evil or not. Let’s have a like for healing and learning

Shujinko had many masters and got trained by everybody he ran with across his journey. Bo Rai Cho is just one of them. Damashi was his real master, he sticked with him from the start to the end, thus "was born of deception". Kung Lao is a pretty good teacher, considering he was able to make Shujinko stand up to the three of them alone + all realms

I always thought that Shujinko secretly always had that ability and it’s the very reason Onaga chose him to search for the kamidogu And these ending basically showed it was always an innate ability of his that Onaga was just awakening and taking advantage off for his own quest

Why wouldn't two Shaolin Monks plus a literal god not be able to notice this?
Or perhaps Shujinko reprises his protagonist role in the new timeline. But this time, he recovers his memory from his dark past (Kung Lao ending) throughout his journey, rather than being manipulated his entire life into unleashing an evil dragon like his old timeline counterpart. Food for thought.

I guess the makers wanted this Kung Lao to be different to the others by making him see what overconfidence can do to a person. They done it by having Kung Lao create an overpowered version of himself in Shinjuku.
I really just wish they could’ve gone back to the original Kung Lao’s story and make him want a life of peace. Instead, he’s an ego maniac who creates monsters. Joy.
And this goes to show the difference between Liu Kang and Raiden as a god. Raiden killed Shujinko for threatening the realms in MK Deception, but Liu Kang let him live here.
I think normal raiden would not have killed shujinko but we are talking about dark raiden so there is no wonder he did that and also shujinko never got killed in that timeline

Clearly Shujinko has met Onaga before because how else will he have his superpower? And Reiko’s ending teasing Onaga returning and Shujinko becoming the warrior he is are surely teases for the next game being like MK Deception where Shujinko has to beat Onaga
Well this's a different timeline my friend, every variable even the key point of history has been rewritten by liu kang to fit his ideal of peace. By so, i think it may be more prudent to simply accept old lore has been changed, entirely
This game literally packed MK Deadly Alliance, Deception and Armageddon all in one story. The next game will 100% have a new plot unrelated to any of the games before
I hate how kung laos character in NRSmk is that he’s the cocky sidekick and needs to be humbled. It’s not bad to have an ego or be overconfident, nrs was to busy trying to make that his main trait
I mean, this ending, as well as the interactions in intro clashes show that he's learning to overcome his over-cockiness and improve. I wouldn't be surprised if he got a little story thingie in the next game (or DLC campaign like mk11) where he's still bold n stuff but isn't a shaolin Johnney cage. After all, this is *this* Kung Lao's first rodeo.
OG Timeline he was a lot more serious, only cocky one he had was during the Earthrealm invasion which got him killed but MK4 retcon his death & in Deadly Alliance he reverted back to his MK2 self where he was serious.
I swear I never understood this narrative. In the prior timeline he beat the deadly alliance single handed along with both goro and Kintaro. The great Kung Lao got beaten to death by Goro which indicates he surpassed his ancestor….They made it a joke of being 2nd to liu kang because of their friendly rivalry in dialogue but he’s nothing like Kotal Kahn who died in his own reveal trailer
That is what pisses me off because Kung Lao is my favorite and they have done him dirty since MK9 and it got worse in MKX almost every character brutally grills Kung Lao in his intros, giving off that inferiority symptoms, however in Kung Laos MK 11 ending he become Lord of Time and Warrior Supreme and says Beat that Liu Kang . At least in this ending in MK1, Kung Lao finally realized that arrogance and pride can cause consequences or downfall, and learned his mistake and shows that redeeming moment. Same can be said for Rain in his ending
It's a little weird. MK2-4 Kung Lao was a very simple character whose a total badass that stepped up when the heroes needed allies, but opt to live in peace when the conflict is over. In MK4 Gold, he ended his feud with Goro for killing the Great Kung Lao...In peace. Then Deadly Alliance came and I dunno. Kung Lao stepped up in full to be Liu Kang's replacement but he failed as Deception shows. Shaolin Monks suddenly giving him massive resentment to Liu Kang for being the hero was also jarring. MK9 to 11 in varying degrees kept this up and yeah...MK1 at least treated him a tad better...I think?
Imma need Ed Boon to run the ones, in a trial by MORTAL KOMBAT *95’ film theme plays* I DEMAND SATISFACTION. Because what is this disrespect. Kung Lao been treated like the Luigi since his inception. This is a pretty good ending. It finally addresses his arrogance and bridges his popular characterization with his original one.
