I just realized that his voice sounded soo familiar, and was proudly surprised that JRE was already thinking of everything to mod anything, and honestly keep up the good work still!! ☺️👍
Thanks I just bought a Nissan Xterra and a light bar and I could not find how to wire it correctly, I found this video to be extremely helpful thank you
I actually just purchased this light bar. Came on here looking for reviews and to see if any issues have popped up. I half expected you to be tearing this thing apart and scratching the glass with your level 6 and 7 picks.
Not bad, MECP installer advice, go through your factory grommet not around it, or drill your own hole and grommet/strip caulk it. Going around your factory grommet exposes the wire to the metal frame and can cut into the wire, later potentially causing a fire on the inside of your car if it cuts through and that + voltage touches the metal causing it to arch with the grounding of the vehicle frame. Also you leave the elements the ability to sneak into the hole from the grommet's inability to properly seal around the wire.
Hi Jerry. Very informative. I purchased a similar light bar but the wiring instructions were not very good. Your video filled in the gaps nicely. Cheers, Cazza.
Thanks man I'm actually using he same kit for my 97 dodge Dakota and the only video I could find that actually shows step by step. Thank you so much!!!
i know this was a little while ago in 2015 but thank you. Just needed a video explaining how to do the wiring harness. ever other video is "yea this one goes to the battery this one too. and dis a ground, I think ya get it"
I discovered your channel about 1 1/2 weeks ago and I think I have watched every video - Absolutely awesome work and great tutorials. Keep it up! - Also, how is the XTerra? Have always been interested in getting one
My interest is how can install this with the original high/low switch in your car? I'm not happy with pushing a second button everytime I need to dim the lights🤔
Great video i been looking and looking because i was thinking i did something wrong but i see i didn't i just didn't hook up the ground wire for the control Because the light is always on so i left the Control ground wire out .
Hi I have the same light bar except the brand of my light bar is Cree and I am using the exact same wiring harness as you but i can get the middle part of my light bar to work but I can get the two side lights two work. Thanks Joshua
I feel like you should have mounted it to both pieces of plastic to make it a little more secure. Not just make a hole so the bolt can slip though. Butyou did the project, hows the stability while driving with the bar on? Does it shake a lot?
Hey! So I just finished wiring mine but my kit came with the positive and ground both connecting to the positive and negative ends of the battery instead of grounding it. But the led bulb in the switch stays on even when the car is off and I can turn the bar on when it is off too. Is this because I did not ground the negative? And is it draining my battery with the switch bulb always on?
That first wire you grabbed on the relay does not need to go to the battery. It can be grounded off anywhere on the frame as long as it touches bare metal.
+JerryRigEverything oh okay. I recently order a light bar and it looks like about the same kit you have but I want to change the switch to a different on I have. It would look better mounted in the dash.
Bro it seems like the relay is directly connected to the battery.. is there any other relay which has battery switch!? Like if the car is off the light bar wont turn on untill the ignition is on..
Excellent vid, I have a similar light with same on/off switch hooked up direct to battery on my UTV. When in OFF position the red led light on switch remains lit up. Will this drain my battery down over time? Its been a few days and no problems right now. Thx
Steve Jordan You'll be just fine. Your UTV battery will last just as long whether that little LED is lit or not lit. Its power draw is so small its irrelevant.
Great video and very helpful. I have the same wiring harness as you and wanted to replace the switch with a 12v rocker style one. There's a blue, white and black wire. Obviously black is ground. Do you know which one of the blue and white is the accessory and supply?
Would the Xterra process of wiring this be the same as wiring it to a Nissan frontier (which is essentially the truck version of the Xterra at least i assume just from the looks of it)?
Thanks! You asked about the silver play button before- still nothing yet. I was going to do a video shin dig with it, but nothing yet. I did move an update my address so maybe it's lost in postal land or maybe they stopped doing it because the community is just so big now?
Great video, and great explanation on how to wire up the bar. As someone with no electrical experience, I have to ask, does the light bar cone on when you switch to high beams?? Or do you manually have to turn the bar on and off, independently of the cars lights??
But there is a way to connect them, right? like if you connected the relée to the wiring to the high beams? I would like my bar to turn on together with the high beams, but also to be able to turn it on and off when the high beams are on. Is this a stupid question?
Have you had any issues with it running hot after blocking the bumper mouth? I've been wanting to do this mod for a while but can't work up the courage lol
Everything looks great. You didn't show how to cut through the metal section of the bumper where mounting bolts protruded through. Did you torch it? There is no room above the holes to get a drill positioned.
just hooked it all up, the switch light stays on an doesn't turn off ( red light) but when l remove the earth its off but doesn't indicate red or green, anyone know what it could be? :/
sucks how there is just an on and off. it'd be cool to have it on a low power mode so you can drive on the streets without bliding people. i imagine it'd look really cool
Nice fit....but you flock significant part of airflow (say approx from 100% down to 30%) to the radiator, which is definitely NOT good, especially if you are towing something during summer or if you live in hot climate areas. With such a mounting nor radiator nor LED light bar will have proper cooling. I'd rather choose smaller (lower) LED light bar, so it would not fit so tight and would let at least some air to circulate.
+Labsyboy Remember that we have all the air under the car, AND the huge gap around the Nissan logo above the light bar directly in front of the radiator. So in reality we are blocking maybe... 20% of available space. I'm not too worried.
+JerryRigEverything That might be true, yes. But since my radiator blowed out due to restricted airflow, I am quite sensitive about any air path being blocked. But as you say, it might be insignificant for the most driving scenarios.
FIRENICEWOLF That little red led on the 'on switch'? Ya, that is always lit. Unless the LED light bar is turned on, then there is a little green LED that lights up.
Well explained, I'd like to know based on what you've said if I were to get two light bars with each bar being a 9" 54w. Would I need two 40a wire harnesses or just one in order to achieve the max light output; as it comes with a 40a wire harness that can accommodate two lights. I ordered the two Product Code: 77704607.
candlemedia Amps = Watts/Volts . So if you are running the 54w light off your 12v car battery, you should be getting 4.5 Amps per light. (If I am calculating that right, its been awhile since high school electronics.) Either way, the dual output 40 amp relay should be just fine for you.
Hello mr! I have Done the same installation as you Did in your video. Is there some way to make the power button light to turn off? Either it on or off. Thnx for a good video / Jens from sweden!
And instead of aiming the bar at the ground you're blinding everyone driving towards you and you're being a jerk. You're why I ordered mine and it is going to be interesting to get it done. If you don't have it aimed up which is the angle it looks like in the video I apologize otherwise that ain't cool
If you decide to make a video try to show the vital things please wtf, am trying to connect a light bar to my Nissan dualis but I can’t find where the high beams are connected and you even didn’t show any of that
I just realized that his voice sounded soo familiar, and was proudly surprised that JRE was already thinking of everything to mod anything, and honestly keep up the good work still!! ☺️👍

Then it wouldn't be Jerry Rigging
+Tristan Winter No problem man! Good luck!
+JerryRigEverything the two red wires have to go to the battery?
just installed a nilight 20in on my bull bar and so far so good. just watch out for the short cables on the wiring harness
I gotta say, the music at 5:16 describes exactly how I feel taking my Xterra off road.
i know this was a little while ago in 2015 but thank you. Just needed a video explaining how to do the wiring harness. ever other video is "yea this one goes to the battery this one too. and dis a ground, I think ya get it"
I like how the music turns on with the lights. ..pretty cool!
singing308 It is just that epic ;-)
What about the radiator ? .. does this have any effect?
I wonder the same thing, I would like to install one of those but I suspect it will affect the air flow
Great vid. Less than $50 too. Nice!!!! I’ve got ‘08 Xterra. Thinking of doing this. Simpler than roof mount.
100 bucks now 😅
Thanks Jerry for the video I bought a 20" light bar For my ISUZU RODEO and that video will help me with my Installation.
Hi,what is the year of your rodeo?
Awesome video! Thanks so much I was looking at installing a light bar on my frontier after watching this I'm more confident about install.
Excellent Vid!!! Hats off! Very clear and concise.
Thanks! Glad i could help out!
Great job on the install. Another stellar set of instructions. D&M
korinne Bagley Nelson Glad you enjoyed it! Z&Nobody
:-)
you just saved me $150 keep up the videos an thanks!!!!!!!
Best video I've seen yet
Just want to let you know that the mounts have changed on the light bar and you’ll have to do some cutting to fit it
I discovered your channel about 1 1/2 weeks ago and I think I have watched every video - Absolutely awesome work and great tutorials. Keep it up! - Also, how is the XTerra? Have always been interested in getting one
***** Hey thanks man! You have a cool channel as well. The Xterra is great. Weve had it for a few years now with no issues.
How did you pull that bumper off? I removed the five screws at the bottom. I can’t feel anything at the top.
So if I Have a lighted switch where can I tap for power that would be on when they car is turned on?
Can you get rid of that switch for the stock position ones right above it. Is that hard to wire?
Hi I have the same light bar except the brand of my light bar is Cree and I am using the exact same wiring harness as you but i can get the middle part of my light bar to work but I can get the two side lights two work. Thanks Joshua
That means you have an issue with the bar, return it. It's all on the same circuit if you only have one red and one black wire coming out of it.
I feel like you should have mounted it to both pieces of plastic to make it a little more secure. Not just make a hole so the bolt can slip though. Butyou did the project, hows the stability while driving with the bar on? Does it shake a lot?
It's actually very solid. The slot it fits in keeps it snug along the top as well. I'm not worried about it shaking or falling out at all.
Thanks man. You're probably right.
+JerryRigEverything what kind of switch did you use when you wired this?
+Potato Masher just the one that came with the harness. I think I linked it in the description.
+JerryRigEverything oh okay. I recently order a light bar and it looks like about the same kit you have but I want to change the switch to a different on I have. It would look better mounted in the dash.
+JerryRigEverything wiring looks about the same not the light bar. One I ordered is a 50inch
hi. sorry if missed it but did you just mount it to the plastic bumper cover? whats the purpose of those holes underneath?
Thanks for posting this helpful video. Curious to know though, did this impact your radiator temp at all?
+Alex Wen No effect as of yet. There is still plenty of air flow.
+JerryRigEverything
Thank you
Bro it seems like the relay is directly connected to the battery.. is there any other relay which has battery switch!? Like if the car is off the light bar wont turn on untill the ignition is on..
How long did that light bar last?
Excellent vid, I have a similar light with same on/off switch hooked up direct to battery on my UTV. When in OFF position the red led light on switch remains lit up. Will this drain my battery down over time? Its been a few days and no problems right now. Thx
Steve Jordan You'll be just fine. Your UTV battery will last just as long whether that little LED is lit or not lit. Its power draw is so small its irrelevant.
Right on! Thanks alot.
Can I get an update on the led mount? Do they hold up good on the plastic?
Great video and very helpful. I have the same wiring harness as you and wanted to replace the switch with a 12v rocker style one. There's a blue, white and black wire. Obviously black is ground. Do you know which one of the blue and white is the accessory and supply?
Would the Xterra process of wiring this be the same as wiring it to a Nissan frontier (which is essentially the truck version of the Xterra at least i assume just from the looks of it)?
yep. they are literally the same format lol.
Perfect How-to video!
is this light bar does not affect the air flow in to radiator
Does it pass the bend test? Did you try scratching the screen?
does the light on your switch always stay on? mine does ..red off light?
How do you cut the small holes in that metal bumper?
Keep it up. Love the vids.
If you wire up a second light bar with the same cables, your amperage will increase, not stay the same..
What do you mean?
What year model is this Xterra? I am trying to install one on my 2013 Nissan Xterra and the bumper doesn't come off or look like yours.
Dude, did you get an Xterra? Is the TPMS light on? J/K. Looks good! Nice work! I like the music effect at 5:16.
briansmobile1 Lol, thanks man! This rig is actually my dads. And he loves it. Congrats on the 111,000 subscribers!
Thanks! You asked about the silver play button before- still nothing yet. I was going to do a video shin dig with it, but nothing yet. I did move an update my address so maybe it's lost in postal land or maybe they stopped doing it because the community is just so big now?
What do you do if your battery is in the trunk? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
Its the same process... you'll just need longer wires.
what did you do with the connection you didn't uses did you just cut the wire and taped it or just left it there in case you add another light
+jmartinez2358 I put tape over it for now, but like you said, I can always add another light if I want to.
Hey jerry great video btw .. Does the heat from the LED affect the plastic bumper area ? I dont want it to get deformed or anything if thats the case
Where do you get those mounting brackets that use Allen wrench
Great video, and great explanation on how to wire up the bar. As someone with no electrical experience, I have to ask, does the light bar cone on when you switch to high beams?? Or do you manually have to turn the bar on and off, independently of the cars lights??
It is independent of the main car lights and has its own on/off switch.
But there is a way to connect them, right? like if you connected the relée to the wiring to the high beams? I would like my bar to turn on together with the high beams, but also to be able to turn it on and off when the high beams are on.
Is this a stupid question?
how did you connect the wiring harness to the light bar?
Hey, Jerry I was wondering how the light bar is going? I'm looking at doing the same thing with my xterra. Great vid!
DeadlyGaming Its still working great! Thanks for watching!
I know this video is old, what year is the xterra?
I can't remember if I subbed right before this video came out or....
You should put a led tailgate bar on your tacoma!!
just double checking, you explained but didn't show, so the wiring is strait onto the battery right..?
+Carson Cavaletto Yup! The fuse included with the wiring harness will protect the light from any surges/spikes in battery voltage.
Put some led on the headlights to match the bar
Great video!
My writing harness started melting immediately when I hit the switch to test my light bar why would that happen?
A positive wire might be be grounding out (maybe before the fuse) or your positive and negative are Backwards.your switch could also be bad.
Looks good! And my car even made it in. That's the good eye... ;)
Katie Hazel lol, took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about. , ' -)
JerryRigEverything Hahaha. You clever man. , ' -)
hello beautiful job, where you have found the stirrups of the bar over glass? online? where? it sends to me link?
Can 22” fit also?
I dont get it.. I do what you say but when I connect the red to the positive it sparks..
Have you had any issues with it running hot after blocking the bumper mouth? I've been wanting to do this mod for a while but can't work up the courage lol
Joe G. Not yet! There is that whole grill above the slot as well that lets in air to cool the engine. So i'm not too worried about it.
JerryRigEverything awesome thanks
Everything looks great. You didn't show how to cut through the metal section of the bumper where mounting bolts protruded through. Did you torch it? There is no room above the holes to get a drill positioned.
possibly a dremell or a big drill bit at an angle
if it's a metal piece a plasma torch would work best cause it's small and fits in there
just hooked it all up, the switch light stays on an doesn't turn off ( red light) but when l remove the earth its off but doesn't indicate red or green, anyone know what it could be? :/
Nice video where can I get that light bar?
Jesus Zamora Auto Zone has a pretty good selection of light bars, LED light, all sorts of stuff
Haha, can u take a video to teach us how to install the front hood support bar?
sucks how there is just an on and off. it'd be cool to have it on a low power mode so you can drive on the streets without bliding people. i imagine it'd look really cool
Nice fit....but you flock significant part of airflow (say approx from 100% down to 30%) to the radiator, which is definitely NOT good, especially if you are towing something during summer or if you live in hot climate areas. Does the switch lights stay on all the time?
FIRENICEWOLF That little red led on the 'on switch'? Ya, that is always lit. Unless the LED light bar is turned on, then there is a little green LED that lights up.
Even if the vehicle is off?
I believe so... Its been a minute since I have looked at it. The little LED draws so little power though, that it is irrelevant.
Would there be a way to have that go off so it the lights don't go out on it so I know when it's on and off lol
Hello again, again
Julian G Its been a few weeks! Glad you're still here.
Ofcouse, allways here you know!
Well explained, I'd like to know based on what you've said if I were to get two light bars with each bar being a 9" 54w. its too bad there not legal to run on the main roadways :(
+skulledmonte84 I know right?! They are so freakin' bright.
yes i got 3- 4" inchers on my atv i love them
id prefer to have the light bar connected to the high beam switch
but see you can turn on the light bar whether you have your other lights on or off and makes it more cool
The red light on the button is always on or only when the ignition on? Thanks!
I was thinking about doing the same but I'm concerned with limiting the amount of air needed for engine cooling.
+The505videos You still have that huge grill up at the top for air to flow through.
Where can I get that wire harness?
+eli antonio I linked it in the video description.
+JerryRigEverything ok thanks! I missed it. Good video!
How will the car breath?
Adnan Rahman Thats what i was wondering.............is it gonna run hot now?
I used that Chinese wiring loom. it's crap. did nothing but flatten my battery.
Hello mr! I have Done the same installation as you Did in your video. Is there some way to make the power button light to turn off? Either it on or off. Thnx for a good video / Jens from sweden!
Нельзя закрывать радиатор! Авто и так подвергается перегреву ! Bed !!!
No fuses on switch? bad idea..
+p1xelman Watch at 3:07 I explain where the fuse is.
Will this affect the cooling for the radiators ?
You probably wanna polish your yellow headlights too....
lmao that shit is bright. thanks for the vid
Ótimo
And instead of aiming the bar at the ground you're blinding everyone driving towards you and you're being a jerk. You're why I ordered mine and it is going to be interesting to get it done. If you don't have it aimed up which is the angle it looks like in the video I apologize otherwise that ain't cool
Now if only the light on the switch went off
Shiiid should’ve worried bout gettin some led headlights and replace those shit halogens 😂😂
If you decide to make a video try to show the vital things please wtf, am trying to connect a light bar to my Nissan dualis but I can’t find where the high beams are connected and you even didn’t show any of that
Mate your headlights are so bad it doesn't even look like you have lights on at all
SEEMS THE LIGHT BAR IS WAY TOUGHER THAN THE PLASTIC BUMPER…JUST SAYING!!!
U fucked up ur bumper
how did he "fuck up" his bumper? A couple screws in the base model bumper big deal
Does the light bar fit right over the license plate holder. The bar I have is too wide to fit flush in that space. did you have the same issue?
