    Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

    Everyone commenting on Jon B's "highstick" should realize it's mostly on the dude coaching him. Jon kept asking him for advice because it was new to him. Guy should have realized when he asked for repeated advice on setting the hook that he was out of his element. If most anglers are honest, we've been there at some point when trying a new combo or new to us species. Just not on camera with a pretty expensive rod.....

    I really like this rod ruclips.net/user/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend I fished with it and like it enough I bought a second rod. I am not a professional fisherman but I fish a lot and this rod holds up to any other rod I have ever owned. I very much like the option of interchangeable tips. Not so much because of the action, although a very nice reason, but because I have broken a lot of tips and guides in the past. This allows me to put a new end on and keep fishing. I am considering trying the spinning rod next.

      @don cherry Spot on. I actually had this issue happen to me today (The base piece connection split on both sides, in the margins on a very powerful rod and I wasn't high sticking or doing anything mad), sometimes you just get way bigger a fish than you anticipated, with the drag set a bit too high, in the wrong situation.

  • @brennanmahoney9591
    @brennanmahoney9591 4 года назад +31

    as you lose line the drag pressure will increase because of the decreasing spool diameter. something to always consider when fighting large fish that will have a lot of line stretched out

    • @chickenpotpie4045

I bought a new Team Lew's Custom Black baitcaster combo last night for $250 and it's sick so far. I live near Pittsburgh, PA so I only got to use it for an hour or so because it's freezing here, but it's going to be badass when summer comes around. I cringed at spending that much, I couldn't imagine dropping $700 on JUST the rod, but I'm sure charter boat captains and hardcore saltwater fisherman wouldn't mind spending that much. It's more of an investment...lol

    Lmao this is the worst possible advertising possible for a flagship, questionably priced rod. $700 and comes with the same guides as a $300 rod. So much for those M4 Nano Carbon Particles lol....regardless of any high sticking claims, on the hook set that rod looked like it had a damn near 90 degree angle above the ferrule. Need to get a Rainshadow 1209

      The nightshift is pretty damn good, tho the price is kind ass, its a reliable rod that can horse some nice fish but not when you highstick

    • @DanEvan
      @DanEvan 4 года назад

      Anthony Chen I think Lamiglas makes great rods and I love my Super Surf 2g pro, my old Ron Arra 1322, and my GSBs. If this was the GSB 11’ heavy 3-8 it would have never broke....did he high stick the rod? Sure. Was telling him to tighten the drag even more a good idea? No. Personally I was stoked for the release of this rod. I got to handle it at Striper Day and then was lucky enough to cast a wide variety of plugs with the 11’ 2-8 in the video. A few things: The fucking rod is heavy as hell compared to anything else in its class. Some people don’t like the carbon split grip, I did. Just a few years ago you really only had either Fuji Alconite SiC guides or full blown Titanium torzite which were obscenely expensive. With all the guide choices today like the corrosion control coating (I think any surf rod over $500 should at minimum have these), you can get titanium frames with SiC inserts instead of torzite like the way Century does their rods now....You’ve got RV guides etc etc., so when I see a rod that is more expensive than a St. Croix legend surf that came with titanium torzite RV guides (now comes with titanium SiC k frames) and it’s outfitted with the same guides as a $300 ODM DNA, I find that hard to believe. This was supposedly a collaboration with Surfcasters Journal and used the name of the slogan they coined (Nightshift)....but what I don’t get is that the rod is a fast action blank, and that’s probably part of the reason it let go......but most, if not all of those guys working for Surfcasters Journal prefer moderate action rods. The editor in chief Dave Anderson uses a 11’ GSB 2-7 Old school which has an even looser tip.
      At the end of the day nobody knows how that rod was treated or transported before this and it could have been a freak accident. The part that I found fucked up was the fact that the shirtless Elliot dude made a post on his Instagram consisting of 125,000 followers and tried to say that the rod was “an old Penn model”. Rods break, it happens. Disrespecting the Lamiglas brand by bold faced lying your ass off while throwing another brand under the bus is pathetic in my opinion. As far as the Nightshift goes, time will tell how it performs long term.

    • @anthonychen9143
      @anthonychen9143 4 года назад

      @@DanEvan Jeez, felt like I just read an entire damn dictionary. The nightshift is great in some aspects but, I totally agree on the fact that some of the materials on this rod can be found on way cheaper models from different brands furthermore it was a lil shitty for him to justify the rod breaking from some BS excuse. I do believe that this is not my best rod (ODM, Century , TFO, even St. Croix makes some rods that are superior to the nightshift in price range and quality. As much as I do enjoy using this rod and that it hold well under certain applications, I can't see myself buying this rod again nor can I fully bring myself to recommend it to someone especially with that price range.

    • @DanEvan
      @DanEvan 4 года назад

      Anthony Chen I apologize for the novel, I just like to be thorough. I wish there were more demo days from these rod manufacturers as so many people don’t have the chance to try them before purchasing. Bending the tip against the ceiling of the tackle shop doesn’t really cut it when spending $700.

    • @anthonychen9143
      @anthonychen9143 4 года назад

      @@DanEvan I believe a major problem is that people buy the newest and "greatest" rods and reels without even taking a look or even feel them, and when they break/fail from circumstances that are not the manufacturer's fault, they automatically assume that everything made by them is shit.
