I would love to visit with my husband one day. It’s crazy watching because it looks so normal. Not what I thought from watching the news here in America. ❤
to live in Shanghai you need to make 25 - 30,000 rmb minimum if you want a decent place, live good, and save some money. it's not for digital nomads. you can live outside the first ring and get a better deal on rent. You can survive off 12,000rmb.
That was a practical review of Shanghai. I really enjoyed it. I used to be a vegan living in Shanghai too so I get it. Where can we hear your friend's music?
I have met a young couple in Thailand recently. They were from US and flow to Singapore and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US. We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting. But I was surprised of what they told me. They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many other people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist government is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere and every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason. All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad.
If you want to experience the Bund. Go to North Bund. Keep the water on your left, Walk all the way to the South Bund Make sure you are hydrated - dress for the weather. There is much much more to Shanghai than the Bund though, but it will amaze you non the less.
Quality of life is all relative to the person though. Different people value different things. For example, if someone valued safety such as the freedom to go for a jog alone at midnight then shanghai would be unmatched. I have lived in Sydney Australia all my life and after living in Shanghai for 2 years, the difference is night and day. Inflation is crazy at the moment here and in most other western countries compared to that of China where there is basically no such thing. If you are going to high end cafes, bakeries and restaurants in expensive areas in Shanghai of course it is not sustainable for the average person. But the things that stand out for me in China compared to other countries I've lived in and visited would be low crime, amazing infrastructure (cheap, clean and reliable public transport), and the cleanliness of the city in general.
FYI: this was way too short. Minimum 20 - 30 min videos are needed. You are one of the few experienced Traveler who is also a Chinese Native. Me personally, would love to know where to go in China to experience the Natives who speak English (more or less). I did enjoy this very short video though and your friend is a beauty! 🫰🏾✌🏾
The most common problem in China that you might encounter is the bad quality of food content. You would never know what you are eating. Even if you could read the content from the package, that will hide somethings that are so dangerous for your health and just to keep economy going, the government would just ignore all these tricks unless someone gets hurt so badly and millions of people talks about that on internet
It is forbidden to hide the ingredient list in China! You are talking about Europe, America and Canada!😂China fights and food safety are big events! This doesn't match the news in Europe and America.
Not sure if shes correct in rating Shanghai as a 6.5/10 for quality of life tbh In America you have to add like 30% on top of everything because of tax + tip. Shes right about fresh ingredients especially the takeout (The cheaper chinese joints). For takeout I just stick to the more expensive chiense restaurants and western cuisines But if you can find the right spots in Shanghai (its like Hong Kong) you can eat well for very very cheap. Also I pay like $1200 for a modern studio in the middle of the city, rent is still very affordable compared to cities like Singapore, HK, NYC, LA, SF, London
Im in the UK, errrr maybe im jaded but UK if you want to go bankrupt! have worse things to say about it but i dont want to go there its well known... also shes only been in Shanghai for 4 weeks! theres another channel with a real American family and theyre also vegan in Shanghai..... Anyway UK is there for you to discover if you so choose and obviously passing thru and seeing the sights is different to living and struggling everyday
I wanna say the life quality and living conditions with the cost of the same account of money is worse than those in Thailand or Vietnam. Produce grown is toxic or poisoned water is quite bad for a healthy life style that would never happen in this city even though you paid a lot
I don’t think people should get advice like this from someone who has been living for less than a month in a city and is annoyed because she can’t get halal food 🙄
That sweet belly pork is famous throughout China! Not just Shanghai..... Heck my mum makes it all the time in the UK! Currently trying to maneuvre my way out of the UK to China for work.... just wondering what will happen
