Iowa has more depth this season despite Czinano completing her eligibility and Warnock choosing dental school over another year on the hardwood. I think most observers expected Stuelke to make significant improvement, and she has. Feuerbach was out with injury all of last season, so whatever she gives the team this season is a bonus. Goodman is playing more and O'Grady less than I anticipated, but as a duo they can provide good minutes in which to rebound and score in the post. Martin is scoring and rebounding more in fewer minutes. Davis is getting more minutes, and the offense does not come to a halt when she is in and Clark is taking a rest. Affolter may have improved the most of anyone; the potential she showed last season is being realized. (I doubtless missed mentioning someone, but it is very late and I am very tired.)
You're probably right, but I feel nobody's replaced Czinano, plus Warnock was probably the next best on the team, both gone now. I don't expect them to go as far this year, but I don't know what all the other teams are like. Super great basketball in any case, it's elevated women's college BB to great popularity.
I agree with you! This game showcased the best offense I’ve seen, with everyone making shots and playmaking. Caitlin is still able to be an assist leader and they can have a faster pace with the players moving and cutting to the basket. Czinano had a big presence and great moves, her skill set was definitely outstanding. Specifically her footwork and positioning. I think Iowa looks great though; love to see everyone making plays and getting baskets. They look very well conditioned and stronger than some of their opponents.
Say what you want about Caitlin's shooting but her court vision is next level. Some of those no look hook shot cross court passes only a few guys in the NBA can make.
Agree. I'd go as far as to say that if Clark didn't score a point she'd still be the best player on the team. But this was a tremendous team victory, not just the Caitlin show. Awesome to watch.
I agree. I really want to see Davis evolve. If she can I think Iowa would remind me of the Cavs team with Lebron and Kyrie. Two guys with a ton of shooters around them. Last year Iowa had nobody besides Caitlin that could create their own shot. Davis needs to be Kyrie this season for them to win it all. @@arthurw8054
You notice that when she hit 30 points she stopped even trying to score? She's out there practicing, basically! And I agree -- the passing this year has gotten tremendous. The lead pass to Molly D at 5:44 was the highlight of the game, for me. I've been noticing: not only are her ideas and decision making strong, but I am starting to realize how perfectly executed some of the passes are. Extremely precise, and not just when she needs to thread the needle. She seems to be so much more technical than anyone realizes. I watched the play at 5:44 about ten times. The way she played the ball so that Molly could grab it after a dribble, in stride. Almost bizarre.
Luckily I have 2 TVs so I could watch both. I am a huge football fan and a huge Caitlin Clark fan not from Iowa and if I had to choose I would have picked,….Iowa and Caitlin Clark !! She is the most entertaining player in college sports and maybe all of sports right now ! She does something every game that makes we say wow !!
The supporting cast around Clark is stepping it up. They will need that to go far in the tournament. Clark is not able defeat every opponent. She needs the team. Clark throws too many silly passes and turns the ball over without cause. Teams win titles.
Gus talked about Gabbie making 20 of 25 pregame threes, spoke about Molly’s headband and her father making repairs. Certainly more talk about Caitlin, but that’s understandable. He did mistake O’Grady for Goodman once.
Iowa's three-point shooting by players not named Clark has been improving. For 15 games through 2024-01-02, those players had made only 31.0% of their three-point attempts, which is about what South Carolina shot last season. (I reference you to Iowa's defensive strategy in that game.) Over the next three games, those same players made 45.5% of their three-point attempts, which is excellent, and brought their season-long number to 34.0%. That Marshall's numbers would improve predictable based on her career going into this season. If Iowa's players not named Clark can make 35% of their threes in any given game, the Hawkeyes will be quite difficult to defeat, provided they attempt at least ten shots beyond the arc. If Clark is extremely cold in her three-point shooting, the remaining players will need either to hit >35% or attempt more shots. I realize this seems to focus on only one aspect of the game. Clearly defense, rebounding, and turnovers are important. So are two-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage. But it is quite fundamental for basketball as it is played today. When the ball goes into the low post or someone, usually Clark, pushes the ball inside herself, there will be either a shot attempt or a pass back outside. Having someone receive that pass who is a willing and capable three-point shooter provides points directly by their own shots or indirectly by opening up the middle for more dribble drives and post moves. If a team's perimeter players lack either the willingness or capability to take open three-pointers, they cease to be much of an offensive threat unless they compensate by being effective dribble-drive performers.
Iowa has a nice team. I particularly like Marshall who is a fire plug on D and a somewhat streaky outside shooter. If she is on it makes Clark so much better. Molly put up a great game!
All this gals are great, because they play as a team, Caitlin makes every player on the team better, Like BAFS, people are to young to know, but there was a TV commercial in the 70's, BASF said that they didn't make things, they made things better. That is Caitlin, all the players came to Iowa as great, Caitlin makes them greater, Visa Vesa
This team was just "HOT" this day! Nobody could have beat Iowa on this day. Clark is doing clark like things, nothing new. She will definitely make any team that she goes to a contender in the WNBA. She is a once in a lifetime player. I think that she will leave a mark on the Women's game like Sue Bird, she's that good!
Clark is a bucket, all around player, but someone on the opposing team has to realize she likes shooting threes fading to her left. Iowa looking like the Warriors 🌧️
Indiana's defense on her was far better than other teams I've seen. I can't remember an uncontested three from Clark in the game, but through their passing a lot of other Hawkeyes did have open looks.
She's been doing it for 4 years, and sometimes the same teams and coaches as before...they still can't stop it. She has that sense of spacing, and a quick release to get the shot off even with someone right in her face... kinda like Steph Curry
Iowa is looking real good and love how well they are doing. However, there are some holes that need closing that would make them mostly unstoppable. First, Stuelke shooting is horrible and is not really a scoring threat. Second, Molly distance shooting motion is very unorthodox and ultimately is lower percentage. Her floater is a thing of beauty but grossly under sued. Third, the passing is too aggressive at times and leading to too many turnovers. Fourth, CC is keeping her dribble going, but she still slips back into stopping the dribble. Fifth, I could go on. No team is perfect, but if they want to win the big one closing these gaps would go a long way.
I’m confused. I think I have a Man crush on Caitlin and Molly D! I don’t understand these feelings, can someone please explain them to me. I haven’t felt like this since 2017 while watching Wonder Woman. Bad jokes aside, this was an amazing game. Excited to watch more.
Obviously impressive performance by Iowa. Unimpressive performance by Indiana. Mentally weak team. Stanford was not a fluke. Clearly they are capable of laying an egg in big time games.
@@wymple09 they beat teams they are more talented than. there is no marquee win on their ncaa tournament resume. seem to be worse than last year. Berger was the rough rider/killer on the team.
MOLLY D. UNDERRATED SWAG.
Clark put in three 3 pointers in 30 seconds. She's a phenom. Davis and Marshall are looking great, too.
Molly Davis game MVP!
She was crazy. She has somuch style. Never misses a layup.
I agree.
She balled out!!!
Smallest girl on the court taking over the game, loved it!
You could definitely make a case for that. When Caitlin went to bench for rest she took over !!

CC with the 11 assists is only going to help her as the season goes on. She realizes she has to get her whole team going. very impressive.
Davis was MVP in this one!!!!
Molly D put on a Clinic tonight!!!!!
Molly Davis! That gal can play!
Wow!!! 👏👏👏 Now this is a CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM 💯
Hadn't seen a Hawkeyes game since last year's Final. The biggest of many pleasant surprises was... Molly Davis.
I wonder if more people watched this game over the Miami KC game nfl playoffs

A few killer midwest teams. Great game at Carver and respect to Indiana women! That was TEAMS playing, even though they both have a few stars.
I lobe this game because the whole team contributed and are having a ton of fun 🎉❤
Wow..Iowa was hot tonight..Great team win
GREAT game! I'm now completely into this Molly girl - she's like a scrappy pit bull. The team may be better than last year, if that were possible.
Very good players, year after year.

Agree! The more players making shots the better to space the floor and create an offensive flow, inside out and ball reversal to the open shooter
thanks for the highlights

Iowa fan here. Have to say it is early season yet and Indiana will get better. All it takes is one bad shooting night for a team to get beat.
