Midnight Adventure to Wales for a Sunrise parkrun! 🌅🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 The Old Railway Trail, Llangollen

As the clock strikes twelve and the world welcomes a new year, most people sip a glass of champagne watch the fireworks and then head to bed. Not us! This year as the bongs died away on the TV from Big Ben, we loaded up the car for a New Year adventure in Wales. We drove through the night to LLangollen where, after a few hours sleep in the car, we joined the Vidler family for the Old Railway Trail parkrun in some spectacular mountain scenery as the sun rose on 2024.
An epic parkrun adventure needs an epix breakfast venue and Jim knew one just outside of LLangollen, the Ponderosa, at the top of the Horseshoe Pass. Not only do you get a great breakfast at a good price but some amazing mountain scenery to enjoy while you eat. The views enticed a few of us out for a bit more exercise, a climb up the hill to enjoy the mountain landscape spread out around us.
One cafe visit wasn’t enough, so we drove back down the pass and after a stroll around LLangollen, we had coffee and cake wrapped up warm on the terrace of the Riverbanc Cafe. Loved the poster as you went in prcolaiming it as a parkrun friendly cafe! Then there was just time for a final stocking up on doughnuts and fudge from “The Fudge Factory” before we headed home.
It was great spending the day celebrating Jim’s 250th parkrun and the start of 2024. One of the best things about parkrun tourism is the friends that we’ve made while on our adventures.

What camera/rig are you using? Your video stablisation is terrific! :D

I'm using a GoPro hero 10 and just a simple extendable selfie stick to get different angles/heights of shots. The GoPro does a great job on image stabilisation but it eats batteries, I normally have to change batter half way round the parkrun and again just after we finish to record the rest of the day, especially in cold weather.

Good job for compleating new years day parkrun!! I too did my local parkrun and enjoyed it. If you are ever hearing down south, WInchester, Ganger Farm and Chichester parkrun are all great events that you should try out. 🏃‍♀😄
