Not a spoiler, but here is a theory on Jinshi. The previous emperor’s second son was born sickly, and for good reason he was swapped with Ah-duo's baby to keep him safe and cared for away from the public. Ah-duo may have gone along with this, as Jinshi would be taken care of well. Indeed, however, how could she not form a bond with another newborn? (or she was too weak from the hysterectomy to notice at the time.) Meanwhile the baby younger brother was too sick to fight off the effect of the honey and succumbed. As Jinshi grew, Ah Duo either was informed of or guessed his origin, and was asked to stick around to help raise him. This explains why she did not move to the Southern Palace until Jinshi was 18. This also leads me up to the day before leaving when she got Jinshi drunk and went to chat with Maomao on the wall. When she came back to Jinshi, she kicked him out and said she was satisfied. My theory on the satisfied was that she was spending time with Maomao to see if she would be a good future wife for him. Again, all speculation I was forming at this episode, including a couple of ideas from others slipped in.
I Googled it at one point. china did not have western-style hospitals per se until the1800s. I suppose when there was less population, it was easier for healers to come to you. Or they came to you I guess. Huh
