I own a Harley, test rode a Goldwing and it’s not even a comparison- the Goldwing drives like a dream.
My first road bike was a Honda. Since then I've owned 2 Harley,s and after watching this today and pricing out a new Goldwing it's a no brainer, my next bike will be a automatic Goldwing. Thanks Josh for another informative look into the world of touring bikes.
He about has me convinced as well!
I absolutely love mine!
Why would u pick an automatic over a 6 speed manual
@@neilbrown82 extra gear, better gas mileage and performance. Not a better touring bike on earth.
@@notorioussob9445 dct makes it boring as hell if I want an automatic I'll get a car meh 😑
Dude!! I said it a over a year ago. They should sponsor you!!!! I hope it's at least something similar. I'm really jealous either way. Good for you man! I'll watch this tomorrow.
Took a trip with my dad and ever since then, I've been sold on the Goldwing B DCT. It was the most awesome bike I've ever been on in terms of comfort, tech, speed and reliability. They're just so expensive and finding a B version in NYC is like pulling teeth.
I own a 2020 Goldwing Tour DCT. Not your grandpa's bike. Never looked back. I think you'll enjoy it more than you think but it will take you about 3 minutes to fall in love with DCT. You've done tougher! Lots of Harley riders are now Goldwing owners. Simply no drama. Sport mode will wake you up as it takes you from zero to Oh-my-God in seconds! Enjoy the ride - in both forward and reverse, with heated grips and seat, and gps, and adjustable suspension, and electronic windshield, and Sirius XM, and a rocking front suspension, and cruise, and... 😋
If you need reverse, heated grips, seat, gps and so on it is designed for a grandad.
@@tomakafrankconlon3207 Need is a strong word, Appreciate would be more apt here.
I have none of that, but when it's 40 degrees and raining and I am on a long ride, I am sure I would appreciate the hell out of it lol.
@@brock8199 I bought it primarily for dependability and comfort. All the other stuff didn't mean much at the time - until I was able to use it. They transform riding into a more wonderful experience - especially at 40 wet degrees! After riding HD for 20 years, I was mostly tired of of the HD dealership experience around here. "Sucks" doesn't begin to cover it. Now I can focus on the ride without the drama and bullshit - the best feature of the Goldwing. And yes, reverse rocks!
Not a grandpa yet, but I do look forward to it someday.
@@fftheblueskys It's nice to know good Harley dealers exist out there. I think anyone who buys a bike pays most for the quality of the dealership and not the brand. Some dealerships are exemplary, like Bert's from what I hear - but then there's the other 99%. This applies to every manufacturer, not just Harley. Lots of my friends still ride Harley and always will but accept their shortcomings as do all bikers. But every one of them laments having to deal with the "stealerships" as they call them.
Bike manufacturers need to learn dealerships are the face of their brand - and they define the public's perception of their brand. Bert clearly knows this. That never caught on around my region of the country. I don't need a bike. Being made to feel that I am imposing while they try to empty my wallet is not an option I will entertain. I deal with companies who help me protect my investment and realize that without customers like you and I, they'd be slinging hamburgers.
Nice bike was great to meet you finally lol. We were the couple with the two goldens. Berts and OOC is one of are favorite places to hang out at love the channel and what you do for the forgotten angels.
I was homeless for five years. With help I was able to turn my life around. I was one of the lucky ones. Still poor, but at least I can pay my rent. Not easy at all.
Get into trade school man. Always work to be done for a good wage.
Y😮&&😮h@@Milspecpoptart
My grandpa and his buddies are all club guys (we'll not say which so we can remain buds) they're now anywhere from 60-80 years old and a few of them are now on goldwings and say it's the most comfortable bike they've ever had. Only took them their entire life to figure it out haha.
Oh man that outro, nearly made me cry! I feld a lot of pain, through the internetcable all the way to germany trough my monitor and headphones. I am very very sorry to hear that you had to move your workshop. I love you and your videos keep it up my man, and take a beer i say cheers right now.
Good to see Flipna in the videos again!
Great video as always!
That program is A 1 brother. Wish their were more people out there that cared as much as you guys

That foundation is so important. I’ve never been interested in donating to anything but that really spoke to me and will be looking into it.
Speaking of Road Kings, I actually made a vid on my channel thanking you for smacking me in the head with the comfortably blunt instrument of raw fury that was Road King Kong. That bike & how you described it got me to try out a King, my Dyna was traded in as soon as I found the "one". I've been ecstatic ever since! Seriously, thank you.
Suffered a Harley heart attack picking up my 07 roadking from mechanic.
It died and I almost joined her. I’m in ORMC now praying for a repair or a Godwin’s from my bucket list.
I'm a veteran myself that has worked for the V.A. for 16 years. Homeless veterans are seen all the time and the only requirement it proof of service. That's it. Addresses don't dictate the services a veteran can get. A phone number and address make it easier for follow-up care, but a homeless veteran can walk into a V.A. emergency room at anytime, and be seen by a primary care Doctor if they like. Thanks for bringing the up the needs of our veterans.
I've been watching you since the rollover video,i cant ride currently due to rotorcuff surgury. Im in Nebraska,Lincoln actually, i got a 76 Goldwing and a 94 Vulcan 1500. When i get down that way, i will tell ya about them.Been riding over 40 yrs, yall keep me going in the snow days, and now the days i stare at my bike and am frustrated. keep it up and keep it wierd.
I have a 2022 DTC that I just picked up a couple moths ago. I have over 9k miles on it so far and I can't get enough of it. There is an up and down finger shift on the left control if you put it in manual and want to do all the shifting yourself. Also it has forward and reverse creep. Enjoy it while you have it! Also have a safe trip.
How are the tires wearing? Have they needed changing?
@@aaron___6014 Tires (stock Dunlop) were finished at 6k I went beyond that (not recommended). I have the OEM Bridgestones on there now that seem much better. I have 2k on them so far and are doing much better than the Dunlops. At 2k the Dunlops were already making noise in the turns.
You in fact had two clutches on that Goldwing, just no clutch lever. :D DCT stand for dual clutch transmission. Basically it is two gear boxes in one box where the power transfer goes via two co-centric clutches. Odd gears are on one clutch, even gears on the other one. As the shifting goes up/down the next gear is always preselected on the other clutch and the clutches just switch when it comes to the actual shift. That's why it is almost seamless. Other similar gearboxes are Porsche PDK or WV/Audi DSG.
All started with the hondamatic around the 70’s
Bad news, you won't be able to work on it. Good news, you'll never need to.
A great resource for Homeless Vets is your local chapter of
Combat Vets Motorcycle Association (CVMA).
I'm a full member myself.
An example of what we do is provide the resources and a portion, if not all, of the funds needed to get
a homeless vet off the streets and into a residence so they can start the process of getting
disability if they have service related injuries, to include PTSD, of which I'm 80% service connected myself.
Another thing that I'm personally involved with is donated one of my new Pitbull pups to go toward becoming
a service dog for a vet in need. The funds for the training is provided by my CVMA chapter.
Love your channel by the way.
Yours is about the only channel I watched religiously twice a week.
And of course I watch Chey's channel as well.
Dude!!!! It is great to see you and Flip together. It has been a long time for me seeing you two together. Ride strong.
Riding across the country on an old (sketchy?) Harley coming soon? Sounds amazing. Love the road trip videos.
Me to those are my favorite to
Ah the Saddle Tramp Shovel teaser!
I agree the look of someone getting their first bike is fantastic. That is going to change that young mans life.
A month ago I bought a 2022 Road Glide Limited and took it on a 4200 mile in 6 day adventure, trading in my 2017 Road Glide Ultra. On my expedition I came across a guy out for an extended rip on his 2021 Yamaha Star Venture. This thing was leaps and bounds better at what my new Harley was trying to accomplish in life. It sounded angry and ready and ready to eat like a 800lb gorilla in the Golden Coral. Many times I wonder why I must have a Harley in my life.
The good news is that a couple Yamahas and a project Harley costs less than a single working Harley
Picked up a 2014 Valkyrie super cheap new old stock in 2018. Never thought I'd ever own anything that resembled a gold wing, but it's got power for days and it's ridiculously low maintenance.
Dudes that compare wings and Harleys pick fights in the produce aisle next to the apples and oranges.
But me and my Harley friends have fun running our mouths at eachother for fun. Got tired of them saying they got passed by a leaf blower when I had stock exhaust though lol
It was good to see you and Flip together again !
I never knew that about the VA! My wife has a tiny home contracting business that she started that is hoping to work with homeless vets to get them in homes and hopefully communities of other vets! We are even in the Portland area, so it's cool to hear that you're coming out here and riding back to Tampa.
Safe riding!
Those gold wings are nice. If only I could afford one 😆. Some day. Ride safe and enjoy the new ride.
finding myself watching all your videos the last few months. You're the pinnacle!
Hell yeah dude! One can argue that that’s the best motorcycle within the average price bracket. That thing will serve you well for a very very long time… Possibly forever
even if he is "picking one up" ... no way is he buying/keeping it... and not sure how a Goldwing Tour like in the picture would be "average" price bracket when its like nearly $30k
@@AyaWetts that’s why it’s called the bracket 12-50k. Got bad news for you… There’s an entire world of motorcycles that you might not be aware of that or six or even seven figures… Hell I’ve got bikes that cost a lot more than 30 K and those are pretty typical motorcycles. Maybe not cheap but they’re not that expensive. Nice and pessimistic though… Geez
@@GMCBigBlock420 lol. No they aren't typical motorcycles. Maybe they're typical for you but the majority of the planet could never afford anything like that.
Yeah, great bike, never heard of a 12 to 50k price bracket before though. Lol 😉 really narrows things down
@@chillyinalberta I just kind of meant that as that’s a typical price range for motorcycle Buyers. Much more experienced people than me put that in my vocabulary LOL
Man, this system that veterans need to have a residency first in order to receive their money is really messed up. They deserve better. It's nice that Bert is doing something to help them.
I have a 2014 Goldwing GL1800 & absolutely love it. I definitely would NOT want the DCT auto Goldwing but I would definitely take one for a ride like you did.
As soon as I sat on one I already knew that it’s not exactly my “cup of tea” as it feels way small to me! It sure does have some cool new tech though!
I think the world needs a Shadetree Surgeon peak dad photoshoot with the shirt tucked-into the Jean shorts, crispy white new balance and white sports socks. The metamorphosis is taking hold!
rivian is an electric truck the creator of the company is from Melbourne, FL they are sick and have some dope storage places where old pickup gas tanks used to be
got me a 2021 wing by mistake and it's the most amazing bike i've even ridden let alone owned! sport mode is insane fun ! glad you liked it !
How the hell do you get a 30k motorcycle by mistake?!
@@BladeoftheImmortal2005 exactly lol wasn't 30k at all..... not even close..... right place, right time and total luck! i'm as surprised as you! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ANONYMOUSBIKERUSA wish I had your luck, man.
@@BladeoftheImmortal2005 first time ever for me! hope it comes your way !!!!
DCT stands for dual clutch transmission. Basically gears 1-3-5 are connected to one clutch and 2-4-6 are connected to another one. This way the ECU can already pre-select the next gear and shift by just disengaging one clutch and engaging the other. This gives you almost instant shifts. The ECU only needs to be clever enough to guess if you would rather down-shift or up-shift depending on the engine RPM, throttle and current speed. But as I heard Honda tweaked that pretty good in the newest versions of the DCT.
After 30 year not riding and at the age of 74 my dad bought one ☝️ 6 months ago he now looks 10 years younger and has a 52 year old girlfriend 👌 keep up the good work keep inspiring us much love from the uk 🇬🇧
I just love the enthusiasm for life and motorcycles
16:00 DCT is Dual Clutch Transmission. The VFR 1200 from Honda has the option of a DCT as well. I've never tried one, but I've read good things about them. You need to remember to set the parking brake on hills because you can't just leave it in first gear like a bike with a clutch.
DCT is great fun, even on their X-ADV maxi scooter. Possibly the fastest way to get from one side of London to the other.
"Every day we stray farther and farther away from our Lord's light, but it's more fun in the dark." I love it.
1979 Harley from Portland to Tampa Bay? That's a bold move Cotton.
I traded my Street Glide in on a 22 Goldwing around 6 weeks ago. Loving it so far, I did kind of a mini review/walk around of it on my channel. Have fun Josh.
I’m gonna check that out after this.
Gotta love the GoldWing....especially in Sport mode..... :0)
Goldwing Tour DCT.. best touring bike on the road.. I take mine to 14K Feet 2up .. what an amazing ride!
Dude. I feel your pain on moving. I just from Oberlin, Kansas to McAllen, TX. It was a killer and I didn't have friends or relatives to help you move. It sucks. I was hot and expensive. It cost me over 3K. I'm glad I'm done and can't wait for my next paycheck.
DCT - Dual clutch transmission.... you touched on it with the auto or manual buttons. Basically Auto or Electrically selecting gears...... I got the Rebel 1100.... but with manual controls..... cause tae hell with no clutch lever (insert Scottish accent) 🤣
DAMN Flip emerges from the shadows on the swamp channel !!!
Honda’s DCT is similar to DCT in Ferrari/Lambo. Dual automated clutch. No torque converter. It’s an Automated manual transmission. Computer works the clutch. No missed gears. Faster shifting than manual shifting. Porsches, Ferrari, Lambo’s essentially no more manuals as slows performance vs DCT’s. Even multi speed automatic torque converter transmissions can not keep up with DCT’s.
I love that Cowboy Bebop sticker at the end.
Yooooooo!!!!
Josh, I just so happen to be one of those veterans (combat, Iraq '03-'04) that can't collect on or benefits because of homelessness. I'm actually couch surfing but technically I am homeless. U know what you're talking about because I'm living it right now. 🙏 thank you so much for helping us out by bringing awareness to this subject!! The stigma is real... and embarrassing as well.
Excellent I never thought I would see you riding a new Goldwing. There are great bikes. The Goldwing is gonna do you well. I plan on getting one on my channel soon also.
I owned a Road King for a year and never realized how similar the frame is to a FXR. Wow.
Bert? Burt? Dude is a legend. A bit of info to maybe help the guys that aren't trying to get under a roof. Because some guys prefer to not be tied down with a place.
The full time RV crowd use this trick a lot. The state of South Dakota considers a PO Box to be an actual physical residence. You can have residence in that state along with an actual picture ID. You can register vehicles (for cheap), Have mail sent there, and forwarded too.
I think getting the guys that want to be in homes, into a home, is pretty awesome. Hopefully this will be helpful to the guys that are in between. Now I need to finish the video and find out how to get a paver for Grandpa. USN with the USS Sirius in WWII and an absolute Harley riding legend of a Lineman since 1945.
that is a interesting story on the rocket how cool is it to have friends that would help you out like that and care enough about his friends to loan any amount of money.
I love GoldWings but could NEVER get on board with an automatic motorcycle-it’s just a big scooter at that point! I’d rather be in complete control of the RPM’s.
Finally on the new goldwing! Looking forward to your thoughts and comparisons (especially vs the road king)
25:40 I just bought a 2023 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT absolutely love it so much technology in a little motorcycle power is insane not more shifting and stupid clutch (I still have 4 more motorcycles obviously with clutch
Love my 2018 Non tour DCT here in Naples. Let's ride! Bought both my Harley Davidson bikes from Bert's Barracuda. Great dealership!
I'm very impressed with the DCT. In March of this year I bought a 2022 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT. I got used to the automatic in a couple days.
Josh, I can't be the first to think this... But is it possible David could expand the Forgotten Angels project, to include a way for veterans to have a tiny home and address until they can establish their VA benefits. After all, veterans are also Forgotten Angels in many ways.
“Gas fight? …no?” I laughed my ass off. 😂
Not a fan of the DCT/CVT/auto on a motorcycle. I get why people are, I hear what everyone is saying….its the same thing everyone was saying in the 90’s about automatic transmissions in cars. Now no one cane drive a stick… 🤷♂️ Motorcycles are the last manual transmission available and I like it. But I would like a reverse gear, that would be cool! 😂
My 97 Goldwing does have a reverse gear.
@@BladeoftheImmortal2005 Big fan. Every gravel parking lot with a slight incline gets me rethinking life choices.
I joined the dad club a few months ago with my 2008 GW partly inspired by your adventures on your GLs and "...meet the worst people on a Honda" vids! But I'm still looking for a Softail, different bikes for different feels.
The kid reaction to the windshield is priceless 😂😂😂
Cities need to set up tiny homes possibly from upgraded large sheds on city lots. They can be made very habitable.
Congratulations!!! The people who call the 6th Gen Goldwings 'Dad bikes' clearly haven't spent any real time on one. You can say that about the 1500, maybe even the Gen5 1800's... But not these new ones. Enjoy it! I expect non-stop trips to the west coast now, instead of 'just' halfway.🤣
Great video!! One of my boys got a DCT Africa Twin not too long ago (he had back surgery that restricts his foot movement so he can't shift a regular bike anymore) and it's hard to explain how different it is too people that haven't ridden one. It's seriously freaky when you go to stop after years of working a clutch and shifting. I was reaching for a clutch that wasn't there and almost panicked when I couldn't find it hahaha! They are cool though, super smooth and give people another option (especially for those who are otherwise unable to ride) so I'm all for it!
I’m getting on Bert’s website and ordering one of those shirts yo….I need to see what his used inventory has on clearance. Lol. Hey Bert is a great man looking out for veterans and doing what our gov isn’t.
My Africa Twin has the DCT and I am glad I chose the automatic. You get used to the no clutch.
This is a cool upload. Automatic Goldwing, so neat!
To run the bike in manual mode you select manual mode and the up and down shifters are a button at your left thumb and a button at your left index finger on the front of the control box on the left hand grip. the one at your thumb shifts down and the one at the index finger shifts up.
Awesome!!!! Congratulations!!!!! Hoping “Honda” sponsors you one of these day!!
My buddy just got a black 22 GW. Super spaceship Goldwing!!
Glad you got one..... you'll be riding to Seattle for coffee and muffins on the weekends
that's why you came back from the sportster adventure trip with 2 flats to get a bike cool. i knew a homeless vet loved his marine corps and Vietnam stories but he passed away years ago. road king is a electra glide without the fairing.
I have a 2002 bmw k1200lt I've dubbed tank with the electric windscreen, cheek warmers, and a 6 cd changer... I love it
Good stuff ST, Honda has the DCT dialed in!!! Sport mode just rips!!
Glad you got to try one.. Take care my friend.
I was literally exited when you took off in the new bike and how you were discovering the features.
I'm very sorry to hear about the shop, it makes me both devastated and furious that this is happening to people I care about. I wish I didn't live so far away because I'd give you any help I can offer. God bless you all, and God bless the homeless vets
what happened to the shop?
@@johnbelculf5441 They got evicted unfortunately. Josh has been talking about this for some time. To my understanding they had a certain deadline, and then for some reason they had to quickly move the entire shop overnight. Maybe Josh could weigh in on this more, but as far as my understanding of the situation goes, that is what happened
I'm not a negative person but there's a good chance the shovel head arrives in Tampa in a U-Haul van. I've owned one before, not the most reliable or resilient bike every built. Anyway, I am looking forward to a full blown touring review of the Gold Wing.
Discovered the dct transmission looking for an automatic for my wufe and i absolutely love it! Definitely prefer it to yanking on that clutch lever a million times per ride. Plus i can still bang thru the gears if I want to. Best of both worlds and I guarantee nobody would ever even notice you were riding an automatic if you didn't tell them. I know cause everyone is always amazed when I tell the my rebel 1100 is an automatic
Rivians took the support crew on Ewan and Charlie's Livewire adventure up America a couple of years back. Basically a pick-up Tesla. If my knee bent enough, I'd have a DCT Wing tomorrow. As long as the wife didn't find out.
DCT, in case this was not explained stands for dual clutch transmission. The trans pretty much has the next gear loaded before you upshift which leads to faster shifts compared to a cvt.
Altho rumors say that BMW's got a cvt in their m4 csl which shifts faster than a dct.
Years ago I bought a honda cm400a hondamatic at a garage sale for $150 and it only had 700 miles. Loved the bike for ripping around town but couldn't get use to not clutching it
Trigger shifters for the manual mode, but having reverse is what I love most about Goldwing👍
In my opinion y'all have the best Harley dealer in America down there in Florida
Love from Mississippi 🇺🇲
That CVO road glide was back when Harley put some effort in and paint matched the frames.
Josh this is the dream brother. If ever I win the lottery, it'll be a couple of these that you and I will be riding around Australia on my man!!
The Zelda store music in the quickly mart. I fell off the couch and spit up my drink 😂
Been a long time since I've seen flip on your channel figured something happened with you guys.
Josh, I have a custom autoclutch in my vstar1100 because I'm paralyzed in my left hand. I've learned you can just give it a little gas and control your speed with the rear brake and slow speed parking lot maneuvers are a breeze. Assuming the goldwing has an independent rear brake.
This makes me think about when I was riding to work on Friday. Apparently NJ has been gradually adopting FL weather the past 10 years. There was a 0% chance of rain. Just as I’m leaving for work I get a weather alert. It said light to moderate rain. I got hit with a monsoon while looking at blue skies ahead of me. Got to work and my coworker said they got no rain at all. Meanwhile I’m completely drenched and my “waterproof” boots did a better job of keeping the water in than out.
I'd be reaching for my "ghost clutch" way too many times on that lol
Get one now if you want one. Rumour has it that Honda are dropping them from their range.
You bought a scooter! Congratulations. I owned the same bike, I went back to a manual transmission, personal preference. Ride safe and enjoy..the new wing does have the best motor in the industry.
Nice. Kinda jealous of that DCT for the time being. Would love to roll on one of those for a little while.
We must all strive to be the change that we wish to see in the world.
My husband and I agree that for the homeless veterans, do something like Forgotten Angels. Build Tiny homes so they have an address. That would be an awesome fund raising event at Burt’s, and I’m sure Dave and Cindy would be down too! They boys could also help build the tiny homes for the veterans! I always wanted to start an ‘Adopt a soldier’ campaign to send care packages and ‘from home items’ for our soldiers over seas. But I completely agree that if our soldiers were receiving benefits, they wouldn’t be homeless. 🇺🇸
Yess!!!!! Welcome to the Vrod fam!
Hey Josh, so, on the left handle bar controls, you will have the shifters, + for up shift and - to down shift. I guess it will be what you will use in manual mode…
Can't wait for you to find the shift paddles on the left handle 😉 I ride a Honda XADV (sadly not available in the States) but that sucker snorts in sport
I said the same thing about electric windshields until I got my Indian challenger. It’s actually really nice to have.
