  • Black Pepper is a high-value crop and it's got the whole world as its market. It is the most common spice in the world. There probably isn't any restaurant in the world that doesn't use black pepper.
Black pepper is found on most tables in the US; but interestingly, it is not grown commercially in the US, as the US climate is not suitable for growing black pepper. It is imported from hot tropical countries like India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other Southeast Asian countries.
In bulk, black pepper costs around $5 to $7 per pound in the US. And, it is usually sold in bottles of small quantities (few ounces) in retail stores at a retail price averaging around $20 to $40 a pound.
