      My father has 40 and I gave my husband 22 days to build my coop because I incubated 6. I am so excited and your tiktoks gave me the push to have my own girls. Thank you!

    Yes! We have chickens. We're a bit older than you, 😉 in our 60s. We've had them for 2.5 yrs. I was raised on a farm.
    We have 9 which is plenty to water glass for winter (I let them take their break).
    You're correct, they're easy to care for and they fertilize the garden when they're out and about 😊

    Oh my goodness those are the cutest fluffy chicken butts 😂😍! I can’t wait to get my own chickens. I had them growing up but I live in a suburban area and am technically not allowed to have them here. I got my husband on board with the idea so now we just need a property where we can have them! Thanks for sharing your experience!!

    I know this is a bit late, but...I just had to agree with you about when they jump! It always makes me think of the fat kid in a Far Side cartoon trying to jump. Which really isn't that nice, but it's hard to dislike the Far Side :)
    You probably don't see it since your girls are always cooped, but watching them run toward you is pretty awesome too :)
    Cheers from Maine!

    When I cook ground beef or anything fatty, I take out the oil and ave it in a separate container. When I get my ladies, I plan on using it to make my own suet seed cakes.

    One thing you have to consider is the laying life of the hens and rejuvenating the flock on a regular basis. $ 45/mth. At 40 cents per egg, you may make a plus of $20 per month. Even with the sacrifice of two beautiful cantaloupe, the hens are definitely still worth it. Those raccoons are into your garden. Hardware cloth protection needed if you want to enjoy some cantelope for yourselves. Be careful when your hens free range, even in daylight hrs with the raccoons especially. They are dangerous predators as they reach in through the chickenwire and just mangel the birds. Get hardware cloth for the lower reaches of the coop, with an extension of about 10inches skirting the perimeters of the coop. You could easily extend on the wonderful coop that your husband build. Compliment. You could add a couple of small tree stems as climbing objects to make your hens happier plus a green- tray of wheat grass or lettuce seedlings, covered by chicken netting on a wooden frame just high enough for the hens to peck the the leaves without killing back the plants. Save your eggshells, wash and dry them in the oven, and crush and or put them through a blender of sorts for a short burst. This will make sure your chickens get enough calcium and minerals without having to fork out money. You could also set up a chicken tunnel from the coop to around the edges of the garden. That way your chickens can scrath and keep down the garden bugs and weeds without destroying your produce. Good luck. Have fun.

    I really want to get chickens and just found out that they are actually allowed in the city limits where I live but I'm just kind of worried about my neighbors. Do you find your girls are very noisy? Have you had any neighbors complain about them?

    • @itsbreellis
      @itsbreellis  Год назад

      They can be for a few hours in the morning when they lay but they are still quiter then any dog bark. None of my neighbors havnt said anything. If they did I’d tell them their dog is louder 🤣 and I have a permit. If I’m not outside during their “load hours” I’d never know and they are only 4-6 feet from my house.

    No, I don't have chickens. I have ducks! My sister owns chickens. I think ducks are better than chickens. ❤❤❤ 😄 Sadly my husband is allergic to duck eggs. 🤢🤮 Now, in this part of life I would like chickens because eggs are disappearing from the market. Have you watched, Chickenlandia?? I enjoy her videos as much as yours. I think you have a beautiful coop. I thank you for sharing. Oh....Squirrels. We have a Squirrel.....as a pet. 🙄 She is cute but evil. Lol. My husband adores her. And excuses every bad behavior. We love wood furniture....so does she!😣 every piece of furniture has nibbles. I know!!! It's awful. Someone asked how long they live....10 years! 😭
    So, if you need to take drastic measures in removing your Squirrel. I get it! Do what you must. 👍
