    As a dweller of the tropics south of the Equator, I never fail to be impressed by the HUGE range of 'hot-tent everything' available to those with snow white Xmas's. It's particularly impressive/interesting to see the dif camping solutions/inventions/outcomes used in dif Countries. Way I figure it...the older the Country, the longer the research, the more tried and tested the Product.

    Looks like a nice set up! I myself, I ditched all the stuff sacks for ALL my gear. Leave them at home for putting things away after drying. Ti spoon in a sack, then in the cook kit sack, then in the pack liner, then it all goes in a pack that is another sack. I really focused on setup and break down time. I have to be able to do it quick, in the dark, and possibly in some kind of weather. I plan to get a ground setup and a fast fold stove eventually and try that life. I went with the hammock hot tent setup out of the gate for winter. No floor, no lumps, no nets, and yes, no stuff sacks! My entire hammock is all ready to hang with two tree straps. Quilt is in it, under quilt is on it with the protector, pillow deflated and on the shelf. I stuff all of it in one dry bag (keep the down dry) with straps on the top. Hook to one tree, walk to the second tree, adjust tension, and bam, sleep system is set up. Tent is one ridgeline and eight stakes (smokehouse mini). Tent and stove are less than six pounds and no center pole. Dont get me wrong, im just sharing knowledge, if your out camping in winter and enjoying it, your doing it right!

    • @DanielOutdoors

      I have all sorted out in separate storage boxes. The Basrcamp stuff you mostly see on video, is in the car. Winter clothing in another storage box at home. Bushcraft stuff in another at home. Then backpacking gear in another, thue hike in another amd lastly Camera gear in a separate bag. This way i can use lightpack.com to note make list and dont leave gear behind when im packing or cleaning.
      Thanks fpr watching.

    Somehow this video skyrocket, so i want to thanks my newest subscribers and those who both comment, and pressed that like button! Videoes like this require alot of work, specially with all the camera movement in the wintertime, apart from snow walk and taking care of the gear. When its that cold battery run dry all the time too. Saddly since then, my whole family got infected by Covid so I been knocked out for 8 days, Covid is very contagious, but Im feeling much better now. I think the vaccines helped abit too. Merry xmas to all of you.
    Want to point a couple of things that you might not know:
    1. The tent stove should be burn before leaving, i have dont it before with a previous stove. But i didnt have the time to do that before heading out for this trip. However the cold affected the stove pipe, in -18 degrees. (EDIT check the last video to see that the stove pipe is fine).
    2. The innertent is setup due to condensation from Stove, not bugs. Its recommended to setup innertent inside a tent, to avoid condensation. Your electronics, and down bag will thank you.
    3. The tent has a innertent, with a half floor. Optional a whole floor can be setup instead, but the innertent was setup here to both deal with condensation, and to check the size of it, so it can eventually fit the family on next trips. Its a test trip video after all.
    4. I tested the size and weight on this specific trip. I might do another test on it once I have the chance.

    Greetings! Very interesting tent. What is the weight of this tent? The large area inside creates an extensive comfort zone. A little sad that the chimney has received damage. This pipe is made of fine titanium and requires gentle use. Very good in winter to cook soup. Soup does not cool down for a long time. The use of soup warms the body. I know that good fish is available in Norway. You could boil salmon - it is very tasty. Good soup is obtained from the head of the fish. Make sure that there is no gills in the head, they can give the bitter taste of soup.

    • @DanielOutdoors
      @DanielOutdoors  2 года назад +4

      Hi. Thanks for watching.
      - The chimney is not damaged, it looks like there but its not, is just titanium and how its forms when its warm and very cold the first time its tested. I tested it recently again and its fine, i have tested the stove type simce 2018, no worries.
      - The NorTent Gamme 6 weight 7,6 kgs. You have to remember The Gamme 6 is pretty large, I tested it before bringing my family with it, and its a 4 season strong tent too. Its design for extreme weather, wich i will show in a future video too.
      - I didnt make soup on this trip, sometimes i do. But I did drink strong Ginger Tea on this trip, and espresso coffee too.
      - I dont like boiled fish, normally i fried it in a pan and make special sauce from the canary island depending on wich kind of fish it is. I like my salmon (Norwegian fresh) raw with soy sauce and a marinated chili sauce too. Everyone taste is different. Last time i did boil white fish, was on my 17 day expedition with a 4,6 kg pike. Close to Russian border actually.
      Merry xmas!

    • @hikewomeat
      @hikewomeat 2 года назад +2

      Indeed, on the Kola Peninsula, where the border with Norway is also found pike. 4.6 kg - very serious fish! I caught a pike there in small lakes in the Imandra area. The pike was fried more often, but sometimes cooked with onions. I noticed that the pike in the north contains more fat than in Central Russia. We sometimes love to salt raw salmon with the addition of a nutmeg. I saw a big salmon in the mouth of the river Voronja (Barents Sea).

    Hot bottle(s) of water in the sleeping bag = NICE! What was the temperature outside and inside? Is the minus 18 degrees Celsius? It looked like a big tent needs a BIG STOVE to keep toasty! Lot of work and carrying/dragging for a one nighter! Fat, meat and carbs are the foods of Winter champions!

      Inside was about 5-10 degrees celsius that night, outside -18. The Titanium Stove is great, it warmth fast also tend to cool down fast too, but you cant beat the weight on it. • @DanielOutdoors
      @DanielOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      It works good as long you keep it dry. I found out that if it is exposed for a long time like it is in lets say a cold car during winter time the Ecoflow will inform you that it is cold. So what I have done now, it put the Ecoflow inside a thermal bag (or soft cooler, with silver walls) and everytime I come around those anti mousture bags (the kind dry meals or electronics products have) i put those inside the thermal bag where the Ecoflow is. This way its exposed to carrying the unit around like I did here on winter time, and works.
      Innertents or doubleside tents and ovens helps too keeping mousture away.

    I don’t know if I’m reading Nortent’s website right, but for the Gamme 8 (lol what a sick looking Beast) it says that the poles are 15.2mm thick, wow is that correct?? But it doesn’t specify for Gamme 6 or Gamme 4 (and I wonder why it wouldn’t specify). Even if the Gamme 6 and 4 scale down a tad thinner it still seems insanely impressive considering that red label Hilleberg poles are 9mm thick, and black label Hillebergs are 10mm. Also…I am wondering if somewhere I could find a technical fabric comparison between Hilleberg black label’s Kerlon 1800, and the Ripstop silnylon 70D 3000mm fabric of the Gamme 6 and Gamme 8. I must be missing something, why on Earth would I want a 41” high Hilleberg Staika instead of a 73” high Gamme 6 for similar money? I mean the hot pipe is just optional, you could just never use it and treat it like a Hilleberg if you wanted to.

    • @DanielOutdoors
      @DanielOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      I never tried the Gamme 8, but the 6 poles compared too the 4 er a bit bigger. I think the 15.2mm is the diamenter in total, remember its vaccum inside. The Poles are indeed very solid, since the tent can withstand and have been tested on strong storm weather. The Gamme 6 (and 8 problaby) comes also with tent plugs that are more solid and bigger than the Gamme 4. I tested some Hilleberg tents in the past. Im pretty sure NorTent is more robust on difficult conditions. Even though I would go for Hilleberg, after NorTent when its stants to quality and detail. NorTent has a very good video on the materials and some test here too: ruclips.net/video/qnyVFxA93Jk/видео.html
      And the Hot oven, for me its a must in this kind of tents, like its docent really weight nothing. The only time I dont bring the oven, if where I want to do alot of miles, on a smaller tent (wich they also prototyping these days, the Thruhike Vern Tent, is builded for thruhiking and 4 season! should be ready this upcoming spring) The Gamme on the otherhand is ment to be a Basecamp that can withstand alot, and where you can also bring alot to the woods.

      So the one huge advantage that Hilleberg has over Nortent is that the Hillebergs have a special knitting process that results in NEVER having to seam seal them. Oh wait there is one more advantage that goes to Hilleberg, I believe that the Hilleberg floors are thicker (100D)…however IMO the Gamme 6 and 8 floors are much less of a necessity than a Hilleberg because you can be on chairs and cots instead of being on the ground. And in regards to seam sealing…one huge advantage to the Gamme polycotton version is that it’s totally waterproof without any need of seam sealing (you just have to weather the polycotton in one time, which means just let it sit through a rain storm or spend some time dowsing it with a hose…the polycotton molecules have to take on water once before it is waterproof, it goes through some type of molecular expansion process or something. But after one session of rain/hose it is from then on waterproof).
      Also, another huge advantage to Gamme polycotton version is that it’s way more NATURALLY resistant to UV damage (to the point where it’s virtually not even a factor). Down side of polycotton Gamme is it’s heavier, and probably more work involved to clean it and dry it before packing it away. And I almost forgot, also polycotton is more durable against the possibility of hot embers occasionally landing on it.
      As far as Gamme polycotton vs Gamme Arctic vs Gamme Extreme as far as taking on extremely scary weather…obviously the Extreme has the Arctic beat, but I’m not sure where the polycotton ranks on the list (I might ask Nortent because I’m curious. The skeletal pole structure is the same for all three, and they only differ with their fabrics).
      One more final thing, the polycotton breathes unlike synthetic tent materials, this has a couple advantages. First, condensation becomes so much less of a factor than the Arctic and the Extreme that Nortent doesn’t even need to have a separation zone between the fly and inner tent (to allow for condensation to form on the inside of fly, but outside of inner tent so that condensation can’t drip on you). In fact this is such a non-issue with the polycotton Gamme that the Gamme PC is the only version that can come with a FULL floor option! Another advantage to the polycotton version (Gamme PC) is that because it breathes you can actually use it in hot weather without it being so uncomfortably hot. In addition polycotton has “Fresher air inside, as opposed to more stale air” according to people who have been in both. Also Gamme PC will insulate and keep heat in a little better in freezing cold weather. So it actually has better climate control in both hot & cold conditions. At the end of the day this all pushed me towards changing my pre-order that I had for a Gamme 8 Exteme to a Gamme 8 PC. However I will admit this, I think that the Gamme Arctic & Extreme looks cooler than the Gamme PC. IMO all 3 are the nicest looking tents on Earth, but the black & red color scheme of the Arctic & Extreme is more bad ass looking than the much lighter colored Gamme PC.
      But let’s face it, if money was no object it would be cool to own both the silnylon and the polycotton Gamme.

      Norrøna Pararanger er en sekk jeg brukte i svært mange år, den er ment for å vare da den er meget solid. Jeg begynte å få litt kne problemer siden jeg ble utsett for en stygg skade ifjor, og måtte gå med i vekt, så var den sekken ikke sånn super egnet til Packrafting og store lang distanse gåing. Det er en sekk jeg anbefaler, men vent til sommer og neste år også fordi da blir det to nye ekspedisjoner riktig nok med en lettere sekk (Jeg har nemlig to nye, og skal veldig snart lage video om dette også)
      Ja, jeg er meget heldig som ble kjent med NorTent tidlig, og ble god partner. Dette har jeg vært i mange år. Jeg har fått tiøbud om å ha andre sponsor og, men jeg har og takket nei til dem. Jeg har prøvd mange telt der ute som ikke holder kvalitet, eller har god detaljer. Gravity Gold, er en fantastisk basecamp. Vi har 6 fordi vi vanligvis er 4 i familie. Gamme 6 tåler kraftig storm, er frittstående telt, kan brukes alle sesonger, ser flott ut, du kan stå oppreist i det og er relativ enkelt å sette opp. Jeg liker spesielt vekt til en slikt telt, glidelås, design. Det er ikke noe problem å få denne i Norrøna Pararanger heller, men da har du ikke mer plass å gå på heller tror jeg. Det går 6 uten innertelt og 4 med innertelt, resten sover på utsiden av innerteltet.
      Gamme er en telt for bruk av bil, pulk, trall eller kort distanse. Gamme 4 også, litt pga. stenger. I Gamme 4 kan jeg ikke stå oppreist, men det er god plass. Med innertelt kan det bli noe trangt for 4 dersom man har Long Wide underlag.
      Om du ønsker å gå større distanser er lavvo 4 som og går fortere å sette opp, tar og mindre plass enn både Gamme 4 og 6, valget, litt på grunnen av der er det bare 1 stang. Der kan jeg og stå oppreist. Og du kan kjøpe karbonstang for å gjøre det enda lettere.
      Jeg synes NorTent har super produkter, Kjetil som driver det er super dyktig øye for detaljer, og legger sjel i det han lager.
      Gamme 6 er min faste basecamp og kommer.garantert til å bruke mye.fremover.

      @@DanielOutdoors I didn't mean to offend or be mean. I was just a bit "shocked" that the pipe was so uneven/"brutalized" for the first burn since it makes it prone to keep that form after it's burned. I see that a bit on some videos but never irl on either my stoves or people around me. It's a pain in the a* to get it right the first time before the first heat has formed it - but well worth the time and effort. For me the trick was to role it up around something bit less than the stovepipes size. Like another smaller pipe or a small log/straight branch or even a couple of firewoods that hasn't been chopped yet.
      But to answer your statements. Compresses in the heat and cold exchange? Well sure, it compresses a bit in the cold and expands by the heat. But in my experience it doesn't really reshape much - unless you have a chimney fire (experienced that on anothers stove (same brand)).
      I don't question your experience, so you don't have to defend yourself at all. It was just about the stove pipe. And it's was more about the difference between the little I know about your background and what looked like to me - a very first attempt with setting up a titanium stove that went a bit wonky. I don't think your the least stupid. I share your outdoor background, though without the military and in Sweden instead. Outdoor life has been part of my upbringing seens I was a baby. I generally really like what I see in your channel and this part, about the stove, stood out to me and suprised me. Sorry if any feelings was hurt by my remark.
      I don't know why you bring up your military background and the coldest you been out in tents, but you sure got be beaten on the lowest temp. Mine is just -29, in a snow-hut me and my friend built as children. -27 in a nortent lavvo and -24 in a hammock.
      Have a lovely day.
      Sincerely
      /Marcus
