  • Though not yet well-known in the U.S., honeyberries (haskaps) are a delicious, early-bearing, cold-hardy berry that grows well in Iowa. Bernis and Jim discuss the differences among varieties and share the details of how they plant, manage, harvest, pack and market honeyberries. They also share examples of honeyberry production systems on other farms.
Bernis and Jim are owners of The Honeyberry Farm, a U-pick operation near Bagley, Minnesota. They also operate HoneyberryUSA, an online mail order nursery specializing in cold-hardy small fruits, in operation since 2010.

I have the late bloomers here in mid-Missouri ; Blizzard, Beauty and Beast. They really struggle during the mid summer. Mine are planted in full sun and I need to install sun-shade. Next year, I will use some 40% shade cloth and see if that helps. Other than the sun, I have not had any problems.

What are the sweetest late haskaps? Are they damaged by frosts in mid-May?

Are these dioecious? I see some places online selling a male pollinator (Czech 17 I think) and many more places just saying any two varieties that bloom at the same time.

i'm looking for a supplier of honeyberry plantlings. We'll need about 400 with possibility to expand to much more. We're not located in North America so we'd need certifications of plant health & disease free condition in order to apply for import permits. We are in Israel & would appreciate information on this.'d found at one time a farm in Florida , but I've lost that information.Thank you for your attention.
