"You're in the right ballpark" Alan's surprise at her good guess completely obscuring the insult - brilliant
The receptionist trying to contain their laughter seems so real. The backing cast in Alan Partridge were perfect.
Understated.
I suspect it possobly was real and kept in.... The delivery is prefect on both sides....
'backing cast ' .. do you mean 'the cast'?
Perfectly cast and performed by all
I went backstage in the free and easy days of security at The BBC when my m8 who worked there simply vouched for me. I saw The Kelly Monteith Show with Lisa Goddard being rehearsed as we had a private room to the studio. It was AMAZING. He cracked a "joke" she laughed like a train. CUT!! and her face instantly froze. Then same again. Joke. She was in hysterics. CUT ! IMMEDIATELY went stoney-faced. That is when I knew in 1981.
Without question one of the greatest sit-coms in history.
I really think this and the second season was the best Alan Partridge vehicle. On the hour and Day Today are a close second but he only appeared briefly in each episode (obviously).
what a golden age that was, when travel lodge had a free graffiti removal service!
Travel Tavern, come on!
3 STAR
I can never tell if Sally Phillips is actually laughing, or it's scripted ….. either way, she kills me !!!!
The first clip I saw from this series was this and I literally thought they actually had filmed Steve Acting out Alan with real people until I realized who Sally Phillips was. She absolutely kills in this role.

@@Isleofskye copy and paste from your last comment?...
If a comment is still equally relevant and apt then, of course,I c and p rather than try to memorize the whole anecdote chapter and verse...
Well like Alan I have been known to do 80 on the motorway but only if I have to get somewhere in a hurry , admittedly.......
0:19 She's clever enough to take the opportunity to insult him with impunity by pretending to guess what it says.
tut 1:42 camera two comes into shot on the left.
This country.
@@TonyEnglandUK The 1,000+ history of the British Isles is null and void as soon as the camera entered the shot. They should find that camera operator and crucify him for his sins.
you're clever enough to spell out the joke that we all got
Simon’s portrayal of Michael is pure genius.
There's a behind the scenes clip of him doing the transition from himself to Michael while putting his costumejumper on. He starts in his own accent, very RP sounding, and as he pulls a jumper over his head his accent instantly flips to Michael. It's wonderful.

Wonder if anyone noticed the camera sneaking into shot at 1:39
a 'Work Geordie'
"Sorry, that was just a noise."
NorthWriter I live in Germany and I encounter so many people whose voices I can barely understand, next time I'm going to say that to them in German.
"Sorry, that was just a noise" is one of my favourite lines in comedy.
A broken home is not an excuse for evil.
He flips him over and f..... funny enough it lands on its wheels, and it starts on first time and they just drive away.
That was like me going into a burger place in London - and the two girls behind the counter turned around when I came in and one of them said; "iuehfowbæwleiougawguf" - Excuse me I replied that was just rubbish to me.
The receptionist is excellent. The thing is, if she were really laughing it still works; no need to retake! Perfect
Michael is the star in this series. Some of is quotes and saying have me creased, and he's not even a geordie , dead posh in real life.
The apache helicopter story 😆 🤣 😂
"You threw a monkey in the sea?"
"Ay, but it'd stolen all me fags, like."
He is also the voice of Alexander Meerkat.
Sleep well, @@Frank75288
Most people in TV come from middle class backgrounds playing working class people all been to drama school, it's a club and we ain't in it
What, like three men burning in a tank going eughh?
Alan Partridge is one of the most brilliant comic inventions. Just amazing.
He's my number one God
He was but jokes over now.I stopped watching the last thing he did quite early on.
The funniest part is when Michael does a quick-fix job on the graffiti and it then says COOK PASS BABTRIDGE
"...aye, that and killing."
Best line in the entire series.
"You've gone again" is a great parting shot. He really 'killed' that conversation.
Little known facts, No.578. Simon Greenall (who plays Michael) is the voice of Aleksander the Meerkat in the 'Compare the Market' ads.
I also think he took over the Churchill dog voice from Vic Reeves.
Everton fan...Good lad.
Yes and he's got a posh southern accent in real life too
Octonauts
BigDogsDangler Tell is something we didn’t already know
I really miss these versions of Alan Partridge. I'm sitting here unable to contain my laughter...shout to the beautiful Barbara Durkin (reception manager) by the way who never got on TV enough IMO.
I'm basically driving around in an obscene publication
One of my favourite lines ever
Sally Phillips is always brilliant in these.
Mark Anthony Wyatt Oh wow! I remember Hippies!!!!
And Brilliant in Trollied and Smack the Pony.
Seems what we're all saying is that she's really good at her job. I agree.
Remove "always", "in" and "these" for economy, and still valid.
Is Sally Phillips the assistant behind the counter? She is so good. And the guy who plays Michael. Well, the whole cast.
Arguably the most quotable sitcom of all time
Every single line is pure comedic genius! 🤣
Makes you wonder what's its all aboot.
They divven't have jobs to gan tae, broken homes nd that like!
Stephen Dines oh about! sometimes it's difficult to understand the Geordie .. Geordie people
It was a mistake to make him say "aboat" the first time, just to have Alan say "a boat?"... ah divvent nah what he was sayin either like.
Wrz2e A broken home is not an excuse for evil.
Stephen Dines aye
I know it's acting but hearing the real accent of actor who plays Geordie Michael was jaw dropping.
Him making a box with his finger when saying a ladies part lol
Sally Phillips is a tremendous actress! Blessings.
when the new receptionist said the "T...." word......she really hit the nail on the head....big time.....
Sally Phillips is so great holding back the laughter
1:09 that timing is comedy genius
I sometimes think Ricky Gervais used Alan Partridge as an inspiration for David Brent. Such similar characters.
Sally Philips' face is a study in suppressed hilarity.
Best comedy show of recent times. Seen every episode a million times and still hilarious evert time. Up there with rising damp in the classics. 10 out of 10 for both shows. 🤣🤣
"you've gone again!" 😂
I love how I can understand Michael
You're my hero
"You're gone again" Such a perfect line for that
Yes, brilliant last line to end it.
26 years on, and it's not aged a day.
well, it has a little. Look at the reception area, carpet etc very 1992
1:43 you can see part of a camera to the left of Michael.
favorite scene of the series
I love how she could NEVER keep a straight face in any of the episodes she's in
Sally Philips has the best scenes and lines in the whole show. 🙂
She's also the hottest on the show.
With the exception of Steve dancing with those traffic cones.
@@HankBukowski a lot of red blooded males imagined sharing her & Barbara Durkins when seeing them together here. In those uniforms
I don't know if I should find Michael offensive, as a Geordie, but I find him absolutely hilarious and I'd be lying if I said conversations with my Southerner auntie don't go very much like this xD
How is your Auntie?

This is gold, fantastic writing & performing.
Sally Phillips is outstanding! I love her.
The blonde behind the desk was stunning. major crush on her back in the day.
Same here.

The light blonde hair....the attractive one. The boss!
She played Mr Bean's girlfriend
The guy obviously had talent.
One of the best characters ever in comedy
I'm from Staffordshire but have lived in Newcastle for about 15 years. I still have a hard time understanding Geordies at times.
Sally Phillips class can not help her self laughing 😂 😂 😂
what a brilliant show
That is classic! Sophie the receptionist was so cute....I expect she still is.
They both are
@@jacksdjfam Both? xP
Alan's so cute in this. He still thinks he's going to be making television programmes.
Absolutely brilliant!
Michael steals this scene 😂😂 “wot is all aboot?”
Someone had drawn a ladies part, it was quite detailed.
Stephen Dines the guy obviously had talent
Minor repairs...and killing 😂
Omg, it's still so so so good
I can't wait to see him back on the BBC,as the year's gone by the comedy gets better, scissored isles And mid morning matters are hilarious, it's worth watching to see Alan partridge on xtc 😁
I could never understand if Sophie was genuinely laughing or if it was part of the sketch
I'd never heard of Alan Partridge before. This is hilarious.
there is so much to be taken from alan, well worth watching everything with him in. it shows his progression and downfall of his career.ten on ten
WELCOME
Masterpiece
The way the "new" girl reacts would be in many out-takes.
wot a CLASSIC....Alan's rude daubings !!!!!

Genius!!!
1.43 you can see the second camera intruding on to the left hand side of the screen. How did they miss that in the edit?
Needless to say I had the last laugh

Which Guy?
A lady's part 😂😂😂

I reckon it was Michael who drew the lady’s part.
