    Every comment I see says They wouldn't trust dollar tree meat. Look you gotta do what you gotta do. Life is expensive nowadays and unfortunately sometimes this is all people can afford. I just want to say I appreciate this guy actually showing you that you can make decent food with what little you have and what little you can afford.

      @andrew_sama Год назад +6

      I don’t know how well that would work with the dollar tree meat because I think they put a whole bunch of water in it so that it weighs more and costs less, so the towel would be a combination of grease and water (maybe).

    So you could soak up the excess meat water with a paper towel OR you could turn up the heat, cook for longer to create brown bits on the bottom. Then deglaze the pan and BOOM extra flavour.
    Remember it's about developing layers of flavour.

    • @RisingRainbow
      @RisingRainbow Год назад +25

      @@aelivi Yea I thought the same before I tried it! Minced/ground beef is not prone to getting chewy because of the length of simmering time at the end. But yes, the process involves almost burning the minced/ground beef and then adding a liquid to remove the almost burnt bits. This extra step requires concentration and an openness to try new things to ultimately make food taste better!! 😊

    Another tip from when we made this growing up, dump one of those steamer bags of frozen mixed veg, or a can of drained mixed veg, in at the end with the cheese and let it heat through. Makes it a more complete meal, you got carbs meat veg and dairy, and it's not so much more expensive. Nowadays I like getting one of those giant Costco bags of frozen corn, peas, carrots, and cauliflower and then just putting a cup and a half in. Those giant bags last me months.
    Another tip on the opposite side of the spectrum, if pasta and cheese is out for whatever reason get a thing of instant mac and cheese and use the pasta and cheese powder. Probably less healthy, definitely less melty, but definitely cheaper and honestly does not taste that much different even if the texture is different.
