We don't need to be great we just need to be good. And I feel like they can build off of last year plus make a few more strides to be better down the stretch.

Hello The Iron that Sharpens the Iron, long time listener first time caller.
This is my first time following the NFL through an off-season. I know every coaching staff would feel confident about their plans (or at least project outward confidence), but Raheem Morris and Jimmy Lake seem to be projecting extreme confidence in response to the concerns about the defense.
In Raheem's interview on the Pivot podcast, he literally laughed off concerns about the pass rush. The vibe was that he knows something we all don't. Jimmy Lake said that they're going to lean into the versatility of certain players to create confusion for the offence. Dave Archer used the metaphor of the D-Line as a "pack of wolves". The implication of all this being that the coaching staff seem to thing they can elevate their squad through galaxy-brain playcalling. Given that the new regime is apparently so defense-oriented, it doesn't sound crazy.
But I saw a comment on twitter that handwaved this idea as 'sim pressure' and just creating the impression that it's a bunch of bullshit. And it's easy to imagine that every defensive coach in the pre-season thinks their schemes are GOATed.
So what am I supposed to make of this? Are Morris and Lake just putting out spin? Are they overconfident? Could they actually know something we don't? I don't know what to think Mr. Drew.

Sure, they could know something we don't. But as you point out, coaches often talk the talk this time of year. And in a few months we'll all find out if they can walk the walk. But I tend to think their confidence is tied to the idea that they're counting on the defense being "good enough" to complement a high-performing offense.

I hope one of these young edges takes a huge leap because if not we are going to be in trouble in the playoffs

Raheem is about to scheme the pass rush with Dtackles and inside linebackers. A premium edge defender may not be that important in this defense. The year the Rams went to the superbowl with Raheems defense, Von Miller was declining and only had 5 sacks

People are ignorant of the fact that if you have a true 2gap nt....then Jarrett and onye will be disruptive. Thus, pressure can be orchestrated via AK, Harrison, elliss, carter, and anderson

Man please, get over it. We have our starting future qb and a new draft next year. There wasn't a pass rusher available who was worth #8 and hardly any worth 1st rd. And we need another #1 wr like another hole in the head. The only thing that bothers me is that we didn't hit on a rusher in fa.

I would like to say this. This Falcons team with Ridder at QB beat the Packers with Jordan Love at the helm and the Texans with CJ Stroud at the helm.
I say that to say this...as bad as people want to say the Falcons are on D. Or as a team in general. They still beat two teams that are considered contenders this yr with 1 hand tied behind their backs.
Realize this team scored 15 pts a game last season. With no passing game to speak of or a running game that never really materialized and still almost won the Div.
I know this team will score at least 28pts a game, and that is on the low end.
The Falcons will be this yrs Detroit Lions.
Jump on the bandwagon now, people!!!
