Hey everyone. I’m a tech that’s been in the industry for 10 years.. I used this video to increase my interviewing skills and I received an offer way over my asking. This video is a great resource for those technicians who get shy and freeze up, or who not may be the best interviewers.

That's what I did, been working on cars professionally for 20 years, during the interview they were asking me questions I had no idea about, and I told them this, I felt there is no way they would hire me, I feel this job is way out of my knowledge field, the next day they called me and told me they want to hire me, I feel I am getting in way over my head, we will see.

As a Maintenance Supervisor I have interviewed lots of candidates and read hundreds of CV's. They all started to read the same because of online guidance on how to write a CV. It was hard to pick out genuine candidates. Also I have interviewed people who had been doing an excellent job as a contractor for me but HR would not hire them just because they froze in the interview. My opinion HR have too much say in the final hiring.

I wrote a very similar comment, it’s good to understand the type of answers the employer is looking for but the answers should feel loose and genuine. A lot of people come off like Ai wrote their response rather than using their own experience mixed with the guidance of preparation videos like this.

It's hard getting into Maintenance with no skills because it pays so good and plenty of people apply for tech jobs. I got lucky. I went through a temp service to just be a Maintenance Tech helper until something else came along. I just became a sponge and learned as much as I could as quickly as I could and next thing I knew the company approached me and offered me a Tech position. I've moved on to 4 different companies as a Maintenance Tech and not one I could've gotten or done the job without experience and knowledge

Thank you for this video! I personally try to do at 2 interviews per year to
    1. See what’s out there
    2. Try to keep up to date with the questions that are asked.
With that being said I have found the questions are more personality based with little emphasis on the technical questions. Why is that? One example of a repeated question is “ You have a co-worker who is difficult to get along with, how do you work with this person to ensure the job is done safely and efficiently?”

I am going for interviews in the next couple weeks as I just got my airframe license. I am worried about being asked operational and technical questions because I have virtually no on job experience. My experience is all from school and the O & P airframe test. Are you ever asked about specific ATA codes or anything like that? I feel that I would have a hard time selling myself based off the fact that I have no job experience, I am only 22 years old and did not come from the military so I don't have any bad habits.

@@ColemanCovers wow... this was 10 months ago?? Where did the time go... Well, my interview(s) went for months, with mainly 1 company. But that first one was with the largest company in my field and I did not get past the 2nd interview. they came in with some moderate technical-situational questions. How would you do this and that. What's he process you use for a xxx xxx ..etc
I interviewed with the second largest company repeatedly, and after 3 failures for 3 different geo locations over several months.. I got the offer the 4th try. And actually, I was interviewing at the same time for two different regions. A week after the offer, the other regional mgr. called to make an offer.. Go figure. I actually preferred that other one but I already accepted. The one that gave the offer, I knew from the opener interview that It would be me. It felt like the first interviewing manager, at the end of our interview, virtually put his hand around my shoulder and walked me through the final two interviews, like they had already decided. Laughing and telling me about the company and where I fit in and our great future together.... lol.
Anyway, the questions and approach differed from region to region, especially after the first round. First round is typically behavioral and get to know you type of questions. What's your story, interests, basic experience. Why do you want to work for us...? The next round will be some situational stuff, on the job stuff. The 3rd is usually the signoff manager who asks you about the stuff you already covered and kind of observes you. Also watching your energy level to see if you are congruent with the job. I was a little animated and high energy but kept it all real with him.
      Hope that helps.

These interview questions are only just HALF of what youll be asked. Depending on where you want to work (i.e. GA, Airline,...) The interviewer will ask you SPECIFIC MECHANICAL QUESTIONS related to your line of work you're applying for.
For example, if you are going to an airline, theyll ask: what hydraulic fluid does the landing gear use, what is this tool used for, what is the name of this valve, what gives power to the aircraft. etc...

I feel like the bullet points in these answers are really good but do feel a bit rehearsed and manufactured, I thinks it’s important to hit these points while also coming off loose and genuine. It should feel natural and less like a chat gpt write up. I would definitely study these answers to understand what the employers is looking for but word it in your own way with your own experiences when it comes to the interview.

I'm probably far too honest for my own good.
I'm not particularly skilled at mechanics yet, as the job I have now is my first mechanic job. So that first answer, for me, is complete BS. I'm afraid of answering it in a way like that, because not only do I feel I will be lying, but also that I'll be setting myself up for far more demanding work than I'm prepared to take on.
Do I have to lie at the interview?

For people watching this for an AUTOMOTIVE maintenance technician, this is not it. I was confused for a minute until I realized it was not, this was for machinery/industrial (im assuming) maintenance technician.

Using the weakness portion as a strength spot just feels like you’re avoiding the question. If I were hiring and somebody told me their weakness was being frustrated with other people’s weaknesses - I’d probably be less likely to hire them.

This is a vital role in many industries, ensuring that machinery runs efficiently and safely. I hope this helps! :)
