man that song at 32 minutes can someone tell me what it is?? maan thats something that been stuck with all this week long man i cant stop thinking about this piece of art , man someone help me!
I saw this movie when I was child. The story is moving, but the music for itself expresses a feeling of sweet, melancholic yearning which is hard to put in words... the orphan brothers travel in search for something that has no name...
BEAUTIFUL COMMENT! To quote you (Cesar Naranjo): "The orphan brothers travel in search of something that has no name." You've given me something to think about.
One of the best soundtracks of our generation next to Blade Runner. Hans is just an incredible talent. I listen to his "Rain Man" song and I feel I'm back in 1988. Such a visionary composer. Bravo!!!
Listen to 4 bit 9d api+e+6 by aphex twin, it's got a weird name and the first minute or so might be too weird techno music for you but then it evolves in the most beautiful music reminiscent of this and of the late 80s vibe in general, listening to that reminded me of this great sound track so I came here.
This movie made me cry when I first saw it recently because it truly tells the tale of two brothers bonding despite their differences. Here was a egotistical yuppie who barely remembers his older brother, who has severe autism. Throughout the events of the movie, he goes from being constantly annoyed by him to loving him deeply. I myself have autism, and when my little brother was born, I was 17. There were times when his crying stressed me out and I felt it was unfair for a baby to be in the house when I was homeschooled and didn't have as much assistance from my mother as before. And yet, he was so... adorable. Just a pure little innocent child. Even getting a single smile from him was enough to make my day better. I am now 20, and my brother is 2. The little boy is walking and is learning new words on a daily basis. And he may throw tantrums and bully my nephews at times, but I still love him because he's family, and he has value. And I think he will be an important friend and family member to have throughout my life. I like having him for my little brother.
All that you wrote is so beautiful and touching. You have a very good heart. My sincere best and love to You and your little brother! Stay Safe & Be Well! ❤
you seem very functional and very wise. i bet your autism is not in the way of your happiness and friendships like the kind in the movie. I wish you the best
Just because of another stupid dispute of the rights, this epic and total underestimated score never found an official way to the record company! Only on bootlegs and "half official" releases. It´s a real shame! 29:30 is my most favourite part! It´s SO beautiful! I can remember when I bought the movie on DVD I modified my audio receiver and changed phases to black out the spoken stereo parts just to get the music! :D
HEY! IT'S YOU! You modified your stereo to silence the spoken parts? That's IMPRESSIVE! Knowing that, I'm thinking you very well might be the most serious and committed person to listening to this film's score. Makes me happy to know that I felt compelled to let you know about the two CD releases, as you're someone who appreciates this music on a different level, when you're modifying your stereo to isolate the score on your DVD...
I believe in an interview with the movie creators (sorry, can’t for the life of me remember which ones in particular), the reason for the oriental flavours in the music was that the movie has themes of exploring the unknown. Particularly in Ray’s case.
This is no “leftover score”. I’m sure if Levinson wanted something different, he would have put something else in the movie as a score, or asked Zimmer to score the movie differently. Movie soundtracks are very purposeful things. None of the sounds here are “accidents”.
In one documentation, Hans Zimmer said the main theme was done by accident... He was young, he played a bit on the piano in the studio for this movie and Levinson came in. Levinson said that's good and Hans Zimmer was too shy to say that it's crap... I think it is one of his best soundtracks. But Hans Zimmer is a perfectionist and God knows which music he would have composed instead of this "crap"...
Yes that's what make this score so universal. The pan flute from South America, asian melodies with guzheng, australian didjeridoo, africain balafon. No wonder why this gem can touch everyone.

I agree. Something about the sound of most of it just GRIPS you, takes you in, and doesn't let go! It's an unpraised gem. And I have High Functioning Autism so maybe that's why I hear so much in it. For example.. From the beginning on. At 2:51 it sets up some piano that has you thinking. Then, at 3:02 -- full on IN THE MOMENT!! It's AMAZING!
